Fortnite Currently Peaking At Over 5 Million Concurrent Players

It’s the middle of the day. The kids are in school. These numbers are insanity! COD is in trouble for the first time ever I think. 😬

I’m sure this is great news for those recently laid off by Epic.

Anyway I’ve never played Fortnite myself and don’t see that changing anytime soon. 🤷‍♂️

Good for Fortnite and Epic but damn other developers need to realize that this success is hard to replicate, and stop trying to make every damn game a live service to compete with fortnite.

Just make good games and the audience will come

Will it though? I've given up on that idea long ago. Games are like music. What's good and what's popular almost never line up.

I played during lunch. There was only a 4 minute queue. Previous seasons had a queue of over 30 minutes, so it looks like their servers are doing better.

It's a phase. The game industry went through the same thing with MMOs. They can't all have millions of players and all keep growing.

There is a temptation to exploit something that becomes popular. Those who maintain benevolence and awareness of their users likely better survive in the long term.

In Fortnite, your current battle pass will give you currency rewards to buy the next battle pass plus extra. If you don't play every day, you build up XP boost so that you can catch up the next time you play. For a F2P game, it seems to respect the player.

Fortnite is absolutely rubbish and honestly I thought their peak numbers would have been higher.

Didn't COD mobile have 30 million DAUs? What's Fortnite's DAU? I've always been under the impression that concurrent x 3-6 = DAU. so my guesstimate based on their report of concurrent players is in the 15-30 million range. Which is a lot, but not as mind blowing as finding out COD had a total of 60 million DAU, of which 30 being on mobile.

COD has 70 million DAU of which 35 million DAU for COD Mobile.

I’ve been calling “core gamers” “niche gamers” for like a decade at this point. Maybe longer

@Mozelleple112: Fortnite, since they’ve been tracking the stat never had this many concurrent users. I did a quick search, and the highest concurrent COD count has been around 2 million. Maybe you can find something more impressive.

And people scoff at me when I say the gaming industry need another crash to see what rises from the ashes.

When garbage like Fortnite has millions of players and actual good games struggle, it just proves that gaming is getting worse.

@last_lap: “Garbage” like Fortnite is what’s keeping the industry afloat. The alternative is these bloated games that are 50% cutscenes and $500 million marketing budgets. And then there’s Nintendo, but Xbox and PlayStation have shown they can’t recreate any of that success.

Fornite and COD have been trading blows on the xbox most played list for awhile. Not surprised about this.

With people continually spending money on those type of games, it is killing the industry to now every man and his dog want to make free to play garbage.

Yes, Sony makes cinematic games that cost a fortune, but at least you get what you pay for and are not driven by "seasons" where you feel the need to buy because of fomo.

Wayyy better than any map they’ve had in a long time, and without all the crap they’ve added over the years. It’s a bearable game now. Sadly, this mode lasts one month before the drop some doo doo butter map. Calling it now, everyone will be mad and tell them to put the OG map back.

Like Pokemon and CoD this is another industry juggernaut that is never on my radar.

If you logged in on MW2, BO1, MW3, BO2... It would say something like 1 million concurrent users on PS3 and 1.5 million concurrent users on X360.

I can only imagine those numbers being higher, only that Ps4/PS5 has a much larger user base than X1/XS

And with 70 million DAUs there's just no way they aren't peaking around 10 million or so.

I’m feeling the opposite, as are most folks I see on social media. My 9 year old as well. The old map really illustrates how rough the map design of OG Fortnite was. Just huge open fields of nothing with poi’s sprinkled in. It’s super bland once the nostalgia wears off. Epic was smart to make this a 30 day thing.

And Mario Wonder perfectly illustrates my point. Incredible controls, great platforming and most importantly, it’s fun. Something PS and Xbox haven’t been able to replicate with their platformers. Same with MK8. Zelda continues to reinvent itself while being a masterpiece. PS and Xbox franchises just die off. Not Nintendos. Because they know how to make good video games.

I find it quite funny at how many people call Fortnite garbage like it’s law or something. If it was a new law that passed that deemed Fortnite as garbage, I must’ve missed the memo. I never played 1 minute of Fortnite (due to it being a battle royal and I absolutely hate BR) but just because I don’t like it doesn’t mean that it’s “garbage“.

Yeah Fortnite is ruining gaming, just like all free to play games, simple as that.

You Nintendo fans are exhausting, as soon as Nintendo release one of its Mario games you act like it's the greatest thing since sliced bread, when it's just another Mario game, and if you find it fun then good for you, others find Nintendo boring.

And you own Xbox Series/PS5 because you know Nintendo will never fulfill your gaming needs, and if you didn't own them you wouldn't be able to complain about them 🤣

@last_lap: I own PS5s and Xbox Series consoles for sports games. And the console exclusive kiddy games like Paw Patrol. If I didn’t have kids I would be a PC/Switch only gamer with ease.

I can live without Nintendo's stuff hence why I don't own a Switch, and neither should adults really, and I have kids, but I would never use that as an excuse to buy one.

It's expensive, has little multiplats, and Nintendo make the same ganes every gen.

I don't see why Fortnite gets so much hate when it has it's gaming players playing the damn game as it is. It's really more like "Pop Culture: The Game" at this point. is why its so popular, even my oldest plays it all the time, but Fortnite isn't really for me.

It should be noted that the add-on meme characters do help attract younger gamers into playing it and they just added bots into the mixed, so it explains why the player count is high then it needs to be.

Yeah, I have no idea why it happened either. They released an awesome game called Unreal Tournament 3, and everyone shat on it. And now they play Fortnite, lol.

I've played it despite knowing it wasn't for me. I even won a couple of matches. After a few games, I had seen everything, and could easily dismiss it and not look back. Would never have played it if I didn't have friends who did.

Pretty sure 80% of gamers have absolutely no intention of playing good games. They didn't grow up with good games so they have no point of reference and just play whatever is popular. Just to fit in I suppose.

I have this 1 friend who sends me invites every now & then to join him, but I just message I don't own the game and have no desire to play it. Those kinds of games don't interest me.
