As perhaps expected, you’ll need a Microsoft account to play Forza Horizon 5 on the PS5. This has been a pretty consistent feature across all of Xbox’s multiformat ports, and doesn’t appear to be changing with the anticipated open world racer.

An FAQ explains: “In addition to a PSN account you’ll need to link to a Microsoft account in order to play Forza Horizon 5 on PS5. This process begins the first time you start up the game on your console.”

It continues: “On launch of the game, you will be asked to sign-in with your Microsoft account – sometimes referred to as the Xbox Live services that are a part of your Microsoft account – and link it to the PSN account you are currently logged into the PS5 console.”

The FAQ adds that linking Microsoft accounts to PSN accounts is performed on a “title-by-title” basis, meaning if you’ve already completed this process in, say, Sea of Thieves, you’ll have to do it again in Forza Horizon 5.

Microsoft has today revealed it'll be releasing PS5 ports of Age of Empires II: Definitive Edition and Age of Mythology: Retold in the coming months. The former will launch for PS5 in Spring 2025, and the latter is out on 4th March 2025.

Revealed less than a week after the PS5 port of Forza Horizon 5 was first announced, the two strategy titles bring high-quality battles to Sony's current-gen system. "Playing across all platforms is a game-changer for our franchise, and it’s all about bringing our community together," a blog post from Michael Mann shares. "This isn’t just about convenience — it’s about growing and strengthening the Age community." Cross-play will let you join up with current Xbox and PC users.

Age of Mythology: Retold is a remaster of the 2002 original from Ensemble Studios. Released late last year to positive reviews, the PS5 version will feature a fully up-to-date version and offer a new DLC called Immortal Pillars separately. The standard version costs £22.49 / $29.99, and the Premium Edition is £37.99 / $49.99 and offers five days of early access.

I will say.. I own the game on Xbox, but very tempted to see how it is on the Pro and with the DualSense triggers.

Dang, that's a big one. Seriously folks, buy it. I didn't think there would ever be a better open-world racer than Need For Speed: Most Wanted, but the Horizon games pulled it off.

My favorite part of that game is the opening theme music. It's incredible. There are times I would just leave the game at the title screen, imaging ways I would write different arrangements of that theme.

Oh, and the game is REALLY good too. Everybody that has a PS5 but not a PC or Xbox, and likes racing games in the slightest. Get this game!

because, on average, there are around 50 million people who buy Xbox consoles per generation.. those people buy Xbox software and subscribe to Xbox services..

beyond that, selling your software to more people tends to make you more money.. PlayStation has definitely got the memo since they're a 3rd party publisher as well on PC...

Xbox problems aren't industry problems, no matter how many times you try to convince yourself of that.

The score doesn't lie you guys, It's an amazing game when I played it on PC. Glad we're getting additional cross-play so that's a huge bonus.

the reality is that Sony won the console war with the PS4 and, apparently, software sales on their consoles still aren't enough for them.. you got Shuhei Yoshida out here saying, "in order to make new PS5 1st party games, PlayStation needs additional income by doing remasters and porting to PC ".. this is in addition to them cancelling like 11 games over the last couple years..

This is what happens when people stop buying the hardware, on top of the fact that people who bought the console got completely reliant on a sub service that many may, or may not, pay full price for to play the first party games. Since we're seeing the Xbox library shift to PS now, I can almost guarantee the version of Game Pass as we know it might have its days numbered.

Forza Horizon 5 is a great game though; I had fun playing it on PC. I still think 4 is better though with the changes of the seasons being a main theme

It's interesting, though, how they are acting like this is some sort of console victory, when SIE's new president basically confirmed Sony will be multiplat in the future (hint: day1 on PC is gonna happen), and also have their games playable in the cloud - which means ya won't need a Playstation to play Playstation games.

Ugh, this is totally going to gum up works of releasing their current upcoming line-up in a timely manner if studios are going back to porting older games to other systems. Just porting the MCC to PC no doubt bogged down 343 while they were also trying to release Halo Infinite. If they do that while also trying to juggle the next Halo entry, it's going to hinder development. Same with a next Gears entry.

I saw a good analysis about Xbox's milestones with the overall Microsoft board has to do with having a significant release every quarter to make good on their investments in acquisitions so porting older titles makes good on that in part while they wait for output to increase. Keeping a multiplatform approach to the publishers in recent acquisitions also keeps some credibility against regulatory oversight worrying about excluding content for future acquisitions.

I also think in ways releasing some of Xbox's signature IPs on other systems in ways increases the goodwill value of the IPs, kind of in a manner how Pokémon Go on smartphones reinvigorated interest in Nintendo products and games at a time it was slumping on console/handheld markets. Whether this is a concrete roadmap going forward or giving people a taste for the IPs that will be more guarded on Microsoft's next console will remain to be seen.

If they're going to port MCC and Gears to other consoles, I'd at least be okay with that if they do it as an ambitious overhaul that benefits Xbox players too. Like if MCC and Gears saga gets rebuilt in UE5 or something like that.

Totally unlikely but I'd celebrate the subterfuge if MS could sneak Game Pass on other systems by using the demo landscape on other systems that unlocks games for people that link their Xbox accounts on them, if they have entitlements to those games on their Xbox account or permissions through the subscription service. And as far fetched as that might seem, I'm curious if the Apple/Epic legal issues might have paved a way for this to happen. Games in a way already fo stuff like this via friend-pass features, so, not far of a stretch regarding feasibility. Still, a stretch whether they'd a really do it.
