Paying a monthly subscription for this stuff is a stupid idea. I'd preferPSN to have slower updates and stay completely free than do this and confirm theprecedent that consoles should have a paid online.
Get a fixed number of PSOne ****c games, PSP Minis (bite-sized games), and PS3/PSP themes per month to keep for free for as long as you are a subscriber.icygangstaSo when you cancel your subscription you will lose those games? Anyway, cross game chat and cloud storage space are the only things on that list that would interest me. So I will just keep playing my games online for free.
Was there any official confirmation of all of this stuff? Like a link for proof? Until then I can't believe this.
But I can be hyped about it. Some of those features sound great and I think I would gladly pay or the Premium price if all of that stuff was included.

So, once again, paying for the premium content is going to alienate the people that choose not to. You have to pay to get an extended warrenty now and better treatment from customer service? I can hear the phone in center telling a nonpaying member, Sorry, you have to wait, cheapskate.' Not to mention the people paying will get better game content and leave the free people behind. Funny thing is Cows will never admit they are paying for it ...

8) like xbox live since the beginning of this generation?
Come with it xbox360 fanboys don't any arugment anymore not factual ones anyway, ...what'cha got?
Really, what premium content are you talking about? Horse Armor in Oblvion? How profound. I'm talking about online games, so if an XBL player is paying, they have access to the content, whereas Sony is not going to allow it for the free players online. So the free player is going to play against a premium player with better equipment.
You want to talk about living off speculation, most of the features listed for the PSN premium service are speculation...So what'cha got?
*sigh*
First off who said I was focusing on the "premium content" line in your quote I highlited?
Funny that you seem to ignore the basic overall concept that you're criticizingwhich is...having to pay for something that will alienate people who choose not to, to focus of the variable "premium content" that you'd like to throw stones at because it applies to Sony's service, while you ignore the fact that "playing game online" is the variable that applies to XBL's service  but you're completly fine with users having to pay or be alienated in that situation for xbl?
Also you second part make absolutly no sense, "if an XBL player is paying, they have access to the content, whereas Sony is not going to allow it for the free players online." :? Say what?
lol, do you see how rediclious your point are? (probably not) but anyway, you're making assumptions now and you're missing some basic truths as well, let me break it down....
8) mate
Sounds good. But I only have one problem about it. I already have a three year warranty for my PS3 from Sony themselves. So what will this three year warranty do? Will it run concurrently? If so, that it incredibly stupid.

Xbox live is still better than this.
razgriz_101
lol least by this PSN users are paying for the bells and whistles and not paying for the core parts like playing online. So in essence the PSN still holds the better end of the stick imo.
Yeah but at least MS offers cross game chat for free to Silver users. This, Sony shouldn't of put on that service.
Man this is already ridiculous they are adding features to this so called "premium service" it sucks overall but hey what can i say people will buy anything and for the people saying that psn is on par with xbox live keep dreaming PSN doesnt have half the content that live has and we still have features that PSN still doesnt. But if you think that this will put PSN over the top it wont i mean how are they gonna impliment these features? If its like how they have implimented past features count me out but hey let people pick and choose its still gonna cost you as much if not more than xbox live and that priority with customer service i can smell the lawsuits from where i am right now laywers are gonna be gettin rich of this.
"Trophy Alerts"I'm sorry, but if someone needs to know this kind of stuff, then they are one sad human being.
Get automated alerts on your PlayStation XrossMedia Bar, PlayStation.com, and via text message (if you so choose) that alert you when your friends get any trophy or a specific one. This feature is customizable – you can choose which friends to receive alerts from and what kinds of alerts.icygangsta

The thing is with this generation xbox live started out correctly regardless if people were paying or not this "premium content" that they are showing was supposed to be free from the beginning if you remember the E3 when they announced the PSN and how it was supposed to get all the content that live hasbeen adding since the beginning. But hey if you remember the PSN when it first came out it was a joke now its not but its still behind live with features that people actually care about features and content. But hey what do i know i have a real PS3 not the gimped crap they have people buying now

Dang. Your a bad troll. A reeeeal bad troll.
sometimes the truth hurtslol. As long as the core multiplayer is free, I'm not paying a cent. Cross game chat is a nice feature to have and all, but not worth paying for. I'm almost always at college too, so most of what I get off PSN are fairly late in relation to release dates.
Joke post? :| If this is true, PSN will have everything XBL has AND a lot of stuff it doesn't have, while still giving people the choice to not pay but still be able to do play games online. Pretty soon XBL will be struggling to keep up with PSN if this is true. Microsoft would never offer cloud space storage to their customers. They want people to buy their overpriced/undersized hard drives. It's impossible for Microsoft to EVER give free PS1 games. And I highly doubt that Microsoft is going to ever implement anything close to as badass as the token wagering thing.Xbox live is still better than this.

This news of paid PSN really dissapointed me, I was hoping the competetion from the Playstation 3 and it's free online service that was really starting to get close to Xbox Live would pressure Microsoft to make Xbox Live free, or cheaper. Sadly the opposite happened. :(
I thought you 360 owners "don't mind" paying for online that's almost the same exact thing as free PSN though. So what is there to be disappointed about? This news of paid PSN really dissapointed me, I was hoping the competetion from the Playstation 3 and it's free online service that was really starting to get close to Xbox Live would pressure Microsoft to make Xbox Live free, or cheaper. Not all 360 owners are happy with paying for Live. And I'm sure most if not all would gladly not pay the fee for Live if they got the same service and content they currently get if the opportunity came.
[QUOTE="Messiahbolical-"][QUOTE="DarthBilf"]It looks like PSN is basically becoming Xbox Live Gold.DarthBilfOnly way better. Not really. Xbox Live Gold has basiaclly all of these features, except for the 1 hour free trial of every game(which is pretty cool). No it doesn't. :|
Did you even read any of them? Live only has a few of those features. Since when did Live have cloud storage(possibly the greatest idea I've seen, and something Microsoft NEEDS)? Token wagering? Free PS1 games? Hulu? Loyalty rewards?(Microsoft doesn't know a thing about rewarding their most loyal customers) How about game sharing? How about the possiblity of free Sony Pictures movies?(See under Exclusive Experiences)
How about CHOICE? Does Live have that? Last I checked, if you don't have a Gold account you don't get to play any of your games online. Honestly this makes Live look like a joke compared to PSN. Free PSN is already almost just as good as XBL Gold and this premium PSN takes a crap all over Live as a whole.
Speculation is great, but it probably won't be till GDC or E3 before Sony actually shows anything, so meh...

How about you take off the fanboy goggles for a minute and think about this for a minute. Now that Sony is charging for PSN, Microsoft now has less competition and insentive to make Xbox Live cheaper, free, or even keep the price where it is, and now Playstation Network users that were promised to recive the features of Xbox Live but for free, are now getting another dissapointment and dropped ball from Sony, everyone looses in this situation.
Most of that should be free. Neither this or XBL are worth it. If these promises are anything like "avatar rewards", I expect these to not be as exciting as they sound.

8) Naa not even close it's more like xbox live Diamond.
PSN as it exists now is terrible, yeah I know that makes Sony fanfolk cry, but its downright awful.
Paying for it means there is an expectation that it will improve, and for anyone who has run into an issue downloading paid content and tried to call Sony for assistance the X a month for front of the line service is well worth the cost.
Not having cross game chats was perhaps the worst aspect about PS3 and a big reason why my multiplatform games are played nearly exclusively on my 360.
Even if its ten bucks a month I will be all over it.

Lol, MS has been chargeing for xbox live for the last 4 years, they were never going to do away with the charges they were forcing on consumers.
XBL fees is to xbox360 what blu-ray is to PS3...MS probably cares more about fees than the games or the console itself, it's likea total 100% profit based off of almost no investment at all.
Sony has proven that you can give almost everything MS has given with the xbl gold members for free...and Sony provided dedicated serviers for 1st party games and xbl dosen't even have that. Implameining Xbl feesas a basic component of what gamers were supposed to expect from a MS console is / was the PRIMARY goal of MS ever bringing consoles to the console race in the first place.
You thinkg MS would somehow "drop" xbl fees because of Sony was just wishfull thinking on your part.
Here's the part of the post where you failed. Sony ISN'T charging for PSN. PSN is still 100% free. This premium service they'll be offering costs money, but why wouldn't it? Look at all of the free stuff they'll be giving out to the members in return? It almost seems like you're implying that Sony should've given things like free PS1 games, redeemable tokens, and cloud storage space for free. :| It sounds like you're just mad that the Microsoft has less "insentive" to drop the price of Live, even though they had no intent to do so to begin with. It sounds like you're trying to turn a loss for 360 owners into a loss for everyone. How did Sony drop the ball if they made a service that's better than Live while still offering something Live has never offered in it's existence: Free online gaming :| I don't see the point your trying to make. PSN is free and has almost all of the features Live has as it is. This premium service destroys Live in every way possible. Nobody with a PS3 is forced to pay. Why do you say "everyone loses"? Because I just can't find the part where PS3 owners lose. Now that Sony is charging for PSN,

So Sony would inflate the value of this? Like De Beers does with Diamods :P
I would recommend waiting for offical word on this, because I am sure Sony would not have all of these wtih their Premium paid PSN.

I'm most likely not going to pay, I'm just laughing at the hypocracy of lemmings in this thread. I say mostly likely because I truly never would pay for an online service, but what sony is supposedly offering actally looks like it is worth putting a price tag on.
If it was just like what xbl is offing now vs what free PSN has already....then it would truely be worthless, and I wouldn't even consider it.
uhh EINSTEIN YOU HAVE TO PAY FOR IT ON THE XBOX ALSO. Also if my psn membership runs out atleast i can still play KILLZONE 2 ONLINEps3 fanboys have been waiting forever for cross game voice chat, and now you have to pay to get it...sucks for them i guess
idk, it all sounds good, but most of it XBL already does and have done for awhile...i might pay for a couple months of it to see how i like it, but paying two bills might not be my fancy and i just don't see me picking PSN paid service over XBL's

Sony is not stupid, go ahead and don't pay to get cross chat, when all your friends have it and you are the odd man out, everyone in your friends list won't stop using it cause you refuse to pay, so it will give you incentive to pay.
people who don't pay for xbox live is cause they don't care much or as much for online gaming. so don't pay.
with sony's system, if you don't pay fine you can still play online, but it will to some extent create two different online communities. Sony's is more forceful and brilliant at the same time.
