Paying for cross-game voice chat is so stupid :( The other things are mostly reasonable but this...no
Dude you say all that but we have a choice.... to pay or not to pay![QUOTE="jwsoul"][QUOTE="CDUB316"]
ps3 fanboys have been waiting forever for cross game voice chat, and now you have to pay to get it...sucks for them i guess
idk, it all sounds good, but most of it XBL already does and have done for awhile...i might pay for a couple months of it to see how i like it, but paying two bills might not be my fancy and i just don't see me picking PSN paid service over XBL's
LEGEND_C4A
Sony is not stupid, go ahead and don't pay to get cross chat, when all your friends have it and you are the odd man out, everyone in your friends list won't stop using it cause you refuse to pay, so it will give you incentive to pay.
people who don't pay for xbox live is cause they don't care much or as much for online gaming. so don't pay.
with sony's system, if you don't pay fine you can still play online, but it will to some extent create two different online communities. Sony's is more forceful and brilliant at the same time.
8) that's the key word in your whole little speel there, "incentive" people don't have to play and can still game online.
with xbl there is no "incentive" to pay for the service, there is an ultamatum, either you pay or you can't play online at all.
There is really no arguement xbox fans can come up with now to throw against what Sony is offering with their online service without stomping all over any argument they ever had to defend or support what MS's xbox live service is now.

there is a reason I said incentive! I'm not arguing, just pointing out how brilliant they are doing their service. anyone with a tons of friends online and are paying will want to pay themselves, who wants to be left out of the party. :P
you guys are too defensive :P

 Live has pretty much been doing all of this for years now and you cows have been bashing Live for not being free since MS announced Live! Now that Sony is charging for their online service its all good now, i suppose! You fanboys flip flop like theirs no tomorrow.
"I will never pay to play online!!!!"
"PSN >>>>>>>>>> Xbox Live because PSN is free!!"
Now its, "I will definitely be playing for cross-game chatting!! OMGG i cant waittt!!!!11"

when the hell is this going to launch anyway? cause i'll have to pay for it one way or the other, don't think my son will leave me alone until I do :(
I own both consoles and i pay for Live but i will never pay for PSN simply because the online community just isnt there. Theres hardly any good games to play online, but the ones that are good the community dies within weeks (KZ2, U2, etc). No one talks, etc etc. Ill stick with my 360 for online gaming
"Customer Service Priority"
I've never used Customer Service (CS), and I doubt many of us do. If you need a "priority" option for CS than there's something wrong w/ your CS
"Exclusive Experiences"
I've seen this a lot w/ other companies. Most of the time it's crap. They often have offers that don't even match retail prices for things, or stuff you never wanted in the first place.
"Extended 3-Year Warranty"
Sounds good, but my the track record for sony's warranty promises is really bad. Basically they'll just say "our warrenty doesn't cover X" and charge you $150
"Access to Beta games"
I swear they've promised this like 6 times already. For Qore, home, and on the PS forums, and just about everything else sony has created they've promised Beta access, and "lied"everytime.
"Early Access to ALL Store Content"
Developers are not going to like this. It's fine to have demo's and free items available early, but if 3rd party developers are excpected to put their releases on hold for "premium" subscribers sony isn't going to attract many devs.
"Member DEMO Sharing Of FULL Game"
So this allows you to share a level with a fellow subscriber - of a game you just purchased from the PlayStation store! This means content exclusive to you and your friend, not available on the PSN store.
Sweetness.
"Cross Game Voice Chat - Access"
about damn time.
"Full Title Trial FIRST HOUR Free"
Great unless a player can get through a majority of your content in 1 hour, but I'd say if that's the case your game sucked.
"Token Wagering"
interesting, but I feel it's going to be very much abused. So it's unlikely that tokens will actually get you anything in the future.
"User to User Challenges"
leaderboards??? ok not really that great of a feature.
"Free Acess to PSOne ****cs, Mini's etc"
Depending what's available this is pretty awesome.
"Discounts On Store Content"
Sounds promising... but mostly dependant on what's for sale most the time.
"Trophy Alerts"
mostly useless it seems.
"Cloud Storage Space for Games"
Another Item from my "next-gen wishlist"
"Online Music Service"
"for use outside of playing a game and similar to Pandora or a Last.fm." basically useless unless I can listen while playing.
"Online Music Video Service"
meh I'm not in high school anymore music videos just aren't that great.
"Automatic Downloads and Updates"
I swear sony just read my "next-gen wishlist".
"Loyalty Program Rewards"
Considering the fact I'm cheap and rarely buy online content due to it's expensive nature I highly doubt this will be worthwhile to me.
"Facebook Connectivity"
XBL has this and it's pretty lame. I doubt sony does any better.
"Catch-up TV"
Hulu support, if true that's freaking awesome.
"Netflix Access Without Disc"
kinda funny, but atleast you don't have to subscribe to get netflix..
If all these options are actually as promised then $5 a month is a fairly good deal. Especially if you're spending more than that on games that you play for a month then never touch again... The problem I have is that Sony tends to over promise and under deliver hence I'm very skeptical about any of these features actually living up to their expectations.

360 hasn't had most of this "for years now"
"Extended 3-Year Warranty"
Now this is a big one. A brand new SONY console ships with a 1 year warranty from the day of purchase, so if your PlayStation3 decideds to kick the bucket a day after the warranty ends your f**ed. (:
As part of purchasing the overall subscription you get an extra 3 years to your name.
Comes with the 360, can't be bothered looking up when
"Access to Beta games"
Didn't they promise this with QORE? ..... Anyway SONY says you get exclusive access to BETA's. So exclusive access to the beta's of popular games before their actual release date
Not really something that i've seen too oftenwith aLive gold account
"Early Access to ALL Store Content"
Get early access to select free and purchasable game related content on the PlayStation Store before it's available to everyone else. This includes games, add-ons, themes, avatars, as well as free game demos.
Does already have this
"Member DEMO Sharing Of FULL Game"
So this allows you to share a level with a fellow subscriber - of a game you just purchased from the PlayStation store! This means content exclusive to you and your friend, not available on the PSN store.
Sweetness.
Live has never had this
"Cross Game Voice Chat - Access"
Well here it is! Alot of you people have been waiting on this. SONY's bringing you cross game voice chat. Nothing more to say, really. It's the ability to use your headset to talk to your friends on PS3 REGARDLESS of what they are doing.
Has had this since launch
"Full Title Trial FIRST HOUR Free"
Yup, so you can purchase a full-fledged game - and try it for a full hour!
Don't like it - delete it.
Like it - Buy it.
Awesomeness.
Oh and it doesn't matter if its multiplayer or single player.
Don't think you get this with a gold account
"Token Wagering"
This sounds promising. Get a fixed number of tokens per month you can wager with other players in competitive online games. These tokens could then be built up and redeemed for free PlayStation Network games and other content.
Never had this either
"User to User Challenges"
Unlock developer-created challenges while playing games. Compete with your friends to see who can be the first to complete these challenges. The PS3 will automatically offer and track challenges and winners and would post results. An example of a challenge is 'first to get 10 trophies' in a particular game.
Nor this
"Free Acess to PSOne ****cs, Mini's etc"
Yeaaaaaaaah.
Get a fixed number of PSOne ****c games, PSP Minis (bite-sized games), and PS3/PSP themes per month to keep for free for as long as you are a subscriber. The PlayStation Store offers these types of content for $2-6 each.
Don't think i've seen something of this scale for gold account members
"Discounts On Store Content"
Get weekly member-exclusive discounts on specific games, game add-ons and themes on the PlayStation Store. Discounts may range from 20-50% off regular retail prices.
A gold account doesn't give discounts
"Trophy Alerts"
Never been an achievement alert on 360
Get automated alerts on your PlayStation XrossMedia Bar, PlayStation.com, and via text message (if you so choose) that alert you when your friends get any trophy or a specific one. This feature is customizable – you can choose which friends to receive alerts from and what kinds of alerts.
"Cloud Storage Space for Games"
Store your game saves on a virtual secure saver. This would allow you to access your game saves at any point in time, and from any PlayStation 3 or PSP console you are logged in on.
Never been on 360
"Online Music Service"
Recently added for 360, but not been around "for years"
Get a streaming music service that allows you to choose your channel based on music **** artist type, etc. and listen to an unlimited number of tracks. This service would be for use outside of playing a game and similar to Pandora or a Last.fm.
"Online Music Video Service"
Not on 360
Get a streaming music video service on your PlayStation 3 that lets you stream music videos from a continuously growing catalog of music and allows you to create a custom playlist to play back.
"Automatic Downloads and Updates"
360 doesn't have this but it's downloads are already very fast so isn't necessary
Customize the types of updates you want your PS3 to download automatically. These include game updates (patches) for games that you own, firmware updates, and game demos downloaded on your PS3 without manually having to select them and wait for them to finish downloading. Your PS3 can be set to automatically turn on for updates and turn off after completion.
"Loyalty Program Rewards"
Get rewards the longer you are a subscriber and also earn rewards by engaging with PlayStation such as buying games, downloading movies, and rating products. Rewards can include full versions of PlayStation Network games and digital movie rentals from the PlayStation Store.
Don't think i've seen this on 360
"Facebook Connectivity"
Access to member-exclusive Facebook features on your PlayStation 3, such as viewing and linking your Facebook accounts with their PSN ID's, updating your status, editing, uploading and sharing photos, and viewing photo albums of your friends on your TV.
A recent addition
"Catch-up TV"
Get access to popular TV shows and movies through service providers such as Hulu, simply by clicking an icon on your PS3 XrossMedia navigation bar.
Never been on 360
"Netflix Access Without Disc"
Access the Netflix video streaming service on your PS3 without the need to insert a special disc into the drive each time to access the service. A separate Netflix subscription would also be needed to enjoy the service. Netflix offers over 17000 popular movies and TV shows for streaming on your laptop or a supported device such as a PS3.
Recently been added to 360
So yeh, most of this stuff hasn't been on 360 before

8) like xbox live since the beginning of this generation?
Come with it xbox360 fanboys don't any arugment anymore not factual ones anyway, ...what'cha got?
playharderfool
Really, what premium content are you talking about? Horse Armor in Oblvion? How profound. I'm talking about online games, so if an XBL player is paying, they have access to the content, whereas Sony is not going to allow it for the free players online. So the free player is going to play against a premium player with better equipment.
You want to talk about living off speculation, most of the features listed for the PSN premium service are speculation...So what'cha got?
*sigh*
First off who said I was focusing on the "premium content" line in your quote I highlited?
Funny that you seem to ignore the basic overall concept that you're criticizingwhich is...having to pay for something that will alienate people who choose not to, to focus of the variable "premium content" that you'd like to throw stones at because it applies to Sony's service, while you ignore the fact that "playing game online" is the variable that applies to XBL's service  but you're completly fine with users having to pay or be alienated in that situation for xbl?
Also you second part make absolutly no sense, "if an XBL player is paying, they have access to the content, whereas Sony is not going to allow it for the free players online." :? Say what?
lol, do you see how rediclious your point are? (probably not) but anyway, you're making assumptions now and you're missing some basic truths as well, let me break it down....
8) mate
ouch. nicely done man, hes forgettign that the FREE psn gets almost the exact same content available as XBL.
So what's your gamertag? Most people that have both understand what I'm saying, making the rest of your OPIONION pointless since you can't see the obvious.
I have both and i can tell you exactly what Live is = RIPOFF
If this is true i probably wont pay for it, but at least they are offering incentives to get the service. Unlike M$ who makes you pay just to play. Sorry bud but to people who have both once psn gets voice chat its pretty much live. With all this other stuff though it could def be better then live in no time.
The only words out of cows mouths i want to be hearing are.

Such failure in your argument. :o XBOX LIVE ISN'T OFFERING THAT STUFF!!!
Cross game chat isn't important to me...at least not $50 a year worth, there is on realistic value in that service. But I 3 year extension on my hardware is, Having access to all PS1 content is. Those things are actually WORTH something.
Please just show me the equvilant in value to even only those to features offered in PSN premium service and then we can talk.

8) not when there's actually something valueble worth paying for in the service and that option doesn't restrict you from the ability to play games free online if you choose not to...no, no not at all.
theres alot of dumb people out there that will not understand what this "premium" service means. Ive seen a couple of these people in this thread already.
They cant get it through their head that PSN is still FREE (everything now, is going to stay the same, FREE). HOwever, these extra features will be at a price. Please people get this through your heads before sayign:

If the price is similar to Xbox live gold, then this will be worth it.
I think it's speculated to be 60 a year.
if its 60-70 a year, i'll likely just buy the PS1 games and be done with it. 40-50 would buyNo need for DC man. You see, cows still get to play what they paid for. And that's what comes on the disc. No need to pay for that still and never should be, since you know, you already pay a pretty hefty price for the game itself. true, sony does tend to overpromise and underdeliver. however if they do deliver then it will definitiely be worth every penny

This sounds promising. Get a fixed number of tokens per month you can wager with other players in competitive online games. These tokens could then be built up and redeemed for free PlayStation Network games and other content.
"User to User Challenges"
Unlock developer-created challenges while playing games. Compete with your friends to see who can be the first to complete these challenges. The PS3 will automatically offer and track challenges and winners and would post results. An example of a challenge is 'first to get 10 trophies' in a particular game.
"Discounts On Store Content"
Get weekly member-exclusive discounts on specific games, game add-ons and themes on the PlayStation Store. Discounts may range from 20-50% off regular retail prices.
"Trophy Alerts"
Get automated alerts on your PlayStation XrossMedia Bar, PlayStation.com, and via text message (if you so choose) that alert you when your friends get any trophy or a specific one. This feature is customizable – you can choose which friends to receive alerts from and what kinds of alerts."Cloud Storage Space for Games"
Store your game saves on a virtual secure saver. This would allow you to access your game saves at any point in time, and from any PlayStation 3 or PSP console you are logged in on.
"Online Music Service"
Get a streaming music service that allows you to choose your channel based on music **** artist type, etc. and listen to an unlimited number of tracks. This service would be for use outside of playing a game and similar to Pandora or a Last.fm."Online Music Video Service"
Get a streaming music video service on your PlayStation 3 that lets you stream music videos from a continuously growing catalog of music and allows you to create a custom playlist to play back."Automatic Downloads and Updates"
Customize the types of updates you want your PS3 to download automatically. These include game updates (patches) for games that you own, firmware updates, and game demos downloaded on your PS3 without manually having to select them and wait for them to finish downloading. Your PS3 can be set to automatically turn on for updates and turn off after completion."Loyalty Program Rewards"
Get rewards the longer you are a subscriber and also earn rewards by engaging with PlayStation such as buying games, downloading movies, and rating products. Rewards can include full versions of PlayStation Network games and digital movie rentals from the PlayStation Store."Facebook Connectivity"
Access to member-exclusive Facebook features on your PlayStation 3, such as viewing and linking your Facebook accounts with their PSN ID's, updating your status, editing, uploading and sharing photos, and viewing photo albums of your friends on your TV."Catch-up TV"
Get access to popular TV shows and movies through service providers such as Hulu, simply by clicking an icon on your PS3 XrossMedia navigation bar.
"Netflix Access Without Disc"
Access the Netflix video streaming service on your PS3 without the need to insert a special disc into the drive each time to access the service. A separate Netflix subscription would also be needed to enjoy the service. Netflix offers over 17000 popular movies and TV shows for streaming on your laptop or a supported device such as a PS3.Thoughts?
icygangsta
why is it ps ****c(why is it censored? whats he word anyway?)
anyway id get it but doubt my parents would pay for it
Not really. Xbox Live Gold has basiaclly all of these features, except for the 1 hour free trial of every game(which is pretty cool). No it doesn't. :|[QUOTE="DarthBilf"][QUOTE="Messiahbolical-"] Only way better.Messiahbolical-
Did you even read any of them? Live only has a few of those features. Since when did Live have cloud storage(possibly the greatest idea I've seen, and something Microsoft NEEDS)? Token wagering? Free PS1 games? Hulu? Loyalty rewards?(Microsoft doesn't know a thing about rewarding their most loyal customers) How about game sharing? How about the possiblity of free Sony Pictures movies?(See under Exclusive Experiences)
How about CHOICE? Does Live have that? Last I checked, if you don't have a Gold account you don't get to play any of your games online. Honestly this makes Live look like a joke compared to PSN. Free PSN is already almost just as good as XBL Gold and this premium PSN takes a crap all over Live as a whole.
1. Cloud storage can go wrong and it has, what if you have no internet? than you have no access to your profile.
2. Token is nothing compared to 1 vs 100.
3. Hulu is only for the states
4.Microsoft has said they are working on something for people who have had Xbox live for a while. Microsoft has Contests lots every month. game with fame, game with developer. weekly discounts
5. I dont know why Sony would do that.
6. being free doesnt mean its better. every year more and more websites are charging users to access "extra stuff" (youtube, Hulu). people really wouldnt pay if they didnt feel like they could get it for free. in the end someone pays.
6. I have played PSN and I prefer Xbox live over it, infact I dont see how PSN is even better than xbox live. I dont like using a Bluetooth headset. they don't last that long. PSN will suffer the same the Xbox live does, as none of that will be availabe in all countries. so most likly all is that is for the US only
User to User challenges is very very very very bad. 1 thats if the developer does that and we all know how many games use all the features Playstation has. and most people don't want to spend playing a game straight for like 48 hours, so than 90% of gamers are even going to be included
