For those of you who are buying a XBOX ONE at launch or sometime thereafter, I was curious if you are at all afraid that at some point down the road, 3rd party devs may not make games for the X1 because of an apparent lack of "horse power under the hood" so to speak? Or do you think that the the difference in technical specs between the XBOX ONE and PS4 is being way overblown by the Sony fanboys?ShoTTyMcNaDeS
Did the devs stop making games for the ps2 since it was weaker than the gamecube and xbox? What kind of question is this?

No, but they stopped making games for the xbox because PS2 had a large marketshare.

It's not power that you lemrats should be worried about. It's the return of 3rd party exclusives because of Microsoft's dismal marketshare that should be worrying you.

LOL is this thread serious? The difference in "horsepower" was much wider last generation between the PS3 and 360. Infact, the PS3 was almost double the power of the 360. The difference now is roughly 20%-25%. which is still a lot. But sony fanboys try desperately to make it seem like the PS4 is some kind of god box. The problem is, the PS4 doesn't even have the technology to handle games like Titanfall orr give you the full game experience of watch dogs. So no. not in the least.

LMAO games like Titan fall. that Game looks so last gen, that I am trying to find out how come you are still hyping it.

Yup. Straight from DF:

In the pursuit of 60fps, something has to give way though - and it usually comes to light when looking too closely. It's the uncanny facial animations during NPC briefings, the rough-looking textures on Titan interiors and billboards, and what seem like scaling artifacts that betray either Titanfall's early development status, or its commitment to being about gameplay first, appearances second. The jaggies are a curious point in particular; even judged by the high quality feed we have availability direct from the Microsoft E3 conference there's more sub-pixel shimmering and rough edges than any other game on show, which suggests this may not be a full-blown 1080p title in its current state. From what Respawn has announced so far, the 60fps bullet-point is proudly announced, but it remains tight-lipped on what native resolution is intended for the final game.

So it has worse graphics than last-gen's game, isn't running at 1080p and still struggles to run at 60 FPS. It's an embarassment.

it might just be just for the exclusives. Multiplats priority should hopefully be PC > PS4 > X1

You know what?  I asked this very same question to a couple fat virgins at Gamestop. They said, and i quote, "xbox one sucks."  These guys would know because they are cool.

the330and419

Regarding GameStop's employees, I went to preorder an Xbox One, and had a conversation with one of the fellows there.

Me: "You guys have any preorders left for the Xbox?" Him: "Yes." Me: "Good, good."

He started getting the transaction set up. Silence occurs for the next minute, until I asked which console he was getting.

Me: "So, which console are you getting, if any?" Him: "Uh, I actually had an Xbox reserved... But I, uh, decided to get a PS4 instead." Me: Oh... What sparked that? What aren't you liking about the Xbox?" Him: "Everyone is talking about how the PS4 is supposed to be better and stuff. It was out of impulse, really. I regret it now. I just now found out they took all that crap away." (this was the day of the policy reversal) Me: "Well, you can always switch back." Him: "No, you're getting the one I canceled." We both laughed.

They also refuse to comment on what resolution they're aiming for. They only ever mention the framerate.

The ps2 was King for its time. It also proved the "power" thing that goes on in a lot in here, to be wrong. Having more power doesn't always = better games. But don't direct that lemrat word to me. Which I don't know if you are or aren't. But anyways, I've supported sony probably more than most of you on this forum. I will be buying my 6th ps3 next month. I'm not worried about 3 party exclusives. I'm not a lem, cow, sheep or hermit. I have everything atm except for a Wii U.

The difference between the ps4 and xbox one in terms of specs is not massive. It will be easily to downport games to the xbox one as long as it sells.Games will look great on both platforms.

If power wasn't important, then the PS2 would be at 300 million sales right now and no 3rd party would be making games for the PS3 and 360.

The difference with next gen is that the most powerful console is not the most expensive console. That's what's going to make the PS4 so appealing.

The difference is massive... There's a difference of 700 GFlops between the 2 GPUs, which is equivalent to the power of approximately 3.5 xbox 360s.

Whether we're going to see a massive graphical difference is what's to be debated.

There won't be a massive difference in graphics between both consoles anyway.

Actually if many of those PS2 games would have been created for the Xbox instead, they would have been a hell of a lot better. Fortunately for Sony, the world is full of fashion victims. Nobody really knew why they wanted a PS2 at first. They just wanted one because it was the "In" thing. It certainly couldn't have been the ganes at the time unless you really had to play Fantavision and two hour length CGI games like Kessen. It was sad seeing so many multiplats show up on the Xbox completely nerfed for the PS2. The only multiplat I can think of that had a seperate version built from the ground up for the Xbox was Chaos Theory. Here was the result. http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=HkHoDEh0FWc&desktop_uri=%2Fwatch%3Fv%3DHkHoDEh0FWc Everything else you could easily tell was made for the Playstation. That's why MoH and GTA games looked like buggy pieces of shit while exclusives like Escape from Butcher Bay and The Liandri Conflict were masterpieces.

And why not? Both are from the same AMD 7000-series architecture. It's just that one had to sacrifice space for the eSRAM to account for the slow bandwidth on the DDR3 RAM while the other used the free space to add more compute units.

Devs don't make games for a system because it is or isn't powerful, they do it because of the installed base and the possibility of profit.

You're pretending to be naive in the OP.

Wrong. 700 gflops is a big difference especially when you're talking about platforms with basically the same architecture.

No. The only people worried about the XBONE's horsepower is Cows who will not buy one anyways. And aside from one or two Lems who are only here to troll, Cows are the only people bringing up clouds.

It is always Cows....

Murderstyle75
Maybe that's because those few Lem fanboys spam bullshit about t3H cL0WdZzzz in almost every thread created. And correct me if I'm wrong but isn't that the whole point of System Wars? To troll? I mean almost none of the people here, Cow of Lem spend any time on the general Xbox or Playstation sections

And I've yet to mention the Cloud, therefore, your point is invalid.

Not worried about that in the slightest. Numerous analysts have stated that practically speaking the differences were not big enough to make the differences too noticeable. PS3 is techinically superior to the 360 and that didn't turn out to be a big deal. Also, X1's cloud will be much better than the PS4 one....dedicated servers for all online games is just icing on the cake..while it won't make up for the raw power differences, it may allow a lot of cool things to happen on the X1 that cannot be done on the PS4.

I find it somewhat amusing that the question is even posed. The Consoles are even closer in terms of power than they were with the PS3/360.

What good are dedicated servers when you can't find anyone else online to play with? :|

I find it somewhat amusing that the question is even posed. The Consoles are even closer in terms of power than they were with the PS3/360.

Puckhog04

The difference in power is equivalent to 3.5 xbox 360s. So how are they closer than the PS3 and xbox 360?

I honestly don't know what he was talking about either. If anything the difference is a lot bigger than it was last gen.

Both have 8GB's of Ram and both have 8 core CPU's.

You tell me how that amounts to a "huge differece"...

I'm seriously curious. Because I look up the specs (again...) and that's what I get for both. Only difference is the DDR5 and DDR3 for the most part.

PS4 uses GDDR5 RAM which is a lot faster than DDR3 that is used in XBone even with the ESRAM boost. The GPU on the PS4 is also has 700 Gflop advantage with more CUs than the one used in the XB1. The difference is bigger than last gen. I also forgot to mention that the PS4 has more RAM available for games than the XB1. 7GB on the PS4 and 5GB on the XB1.

If power wasn't important, then the PS2 would be at 300 million sales right now and no 3rd party would be making games for the PS3 and 360.

The difference with next gen is that the most powerful console is not the most expensive console. That's what's going to make the PS4 so appealing.

CallOfDutyRulez
Not true though, the trend with people these days is if something new comes out, and they are interested in it, then they have to have it. Good example of this (but not related to this convo) is with cell phones. I don't think I need go on about cell phones though. If power is important as SW thinks then why did the Wii outsell both the xbox 360 and ps3? But to answer that, it would take the ps2, assuming people were still interested in it and it was in it's glory days, close to another 10 years, if not more, to sell another 150 million. Well not necessarily true again. The ps3 was the most expensive console this gen. (not accounting for this xbox live stuff/psn stuff, but the model price) According to this forum, it's better than the xbox spec wise and according to this forum, it out sold the xbox. Proving that price doesn't make something more appealing.

I was talking about the GPUs alone. If we consider RAM and CPU, the difference gets even bigger.

1) Ram:

The PS4 has 8 GB of GDDR5 RAM with a peak performance of 176 GB/s across the entire 8 GB of memory.

The xbox ONE has 8 GB of DDR3 RAM with a peak performance of only 68 GB/s. The xbox ONE also has 32 mb of eSRAM with a performance of 190 GB/s for ONLY 32 mb of memory.

2) CPU:

It has been confirmed by Microsoft that 2 cores of the 8-core Jaguar CPU will be used for OS operations. Insiders from neogaf have confirmed that the CPU will be clocked at 1.6 Ghz.

The PS4's CPU will probably take up a quarter of a core. Rumors from neogaf point the clockspeed at 1.8 - 2.0 Ghz.

So why is the Wii U selling like crap?

There are many factors that influence sales, and power is a big factor along with price point. The Wii had a novel feature that attracted the soccer moms and casuals.

So basically the real advantage is the GPU. Fair enough, I already knew it was powerful. I was just curious. I didn't hear about either of the GPU's.

Lack of games. When the Wii U's big first party titles start rolling out, sales will pick up.

Nintendo consoles rely on first party software, unlike Sony consoles.

Yet people still bought even without good 3rd party games unless you thought Kessen was a console seller.

Nintendo came pretty much unprepared for the HD-era. There was an article not to long ago about one of the Nintendo execs (I think it was the CEO himself) saying that it takes more than twice their current man-power to make 720p games.

It's utterly mind-boggling how they haven't prepared for HD game development... They had 6 years with the Wii and NDS making money hand over fist for them.

Not true. Each console manufacturer is dependent on library, exclusives and third-party. This is why Nintendo struggles. Sony is just as dependent on its exclusives as Nintendo is, otherwise there would be no incentive to buy a PS3 over 360. Exclusives matter, but the overall library is far more important.

Even with HD Development, I think they would still stagger. I mean the Wii sold great because of a now dead gimmick. Meanwhile the GameCube sold 21 million vs 150+ million and the N64 sold like 33 million vs 100+ million. Without the Wiimote fad, Nin hasn't had any momentum since Sega was their only competitor.
