judging from the poor sales, i'd say he was right....
the cell and bluray have shown no benefit to gaming and in fact, given the huge amount of delays, appears to be a hindrance..
oh well...it's not a total suprise...
i'm just glad someone (a legend no less) had the cajones to say what really needed to be said...
I dev hating on something thats hard to dev for?
Is there any wonder? Game development is already hard, sony just decided to continue its tradition of hard to develop for consoles, took awhile to get use to the psone and the ps2 but hey eventually they figure it out. Valve like many companies want friendly environments to work with that don't take them the whole game development cycle to figure out and get working smoothly, the console already been stated from many sources to be a pain in the butt, complaining won't change it, only dev tools will.
they guy loves PC's and hates consoles not surprsing. epic seems to like PS3.Ragashahs
Epic is getting paid by sony to make the UT3 engine work better for the PS3 and make it easier to make games with it ;) It isn't a matter of epic seems to like it, more they don't want to lose the money they are getting to make it developer friendly to PS3.

He doesnt seem to have a problem with the 360, hesays the PS3 version ofOrange Box will never run as well as PC or 360.

the guy is a m$ fanboy, just google his past. Orange boxis mostly last-gen games and Resistance a launch game looksas good as portal. the guy talks trash and cant even get a last gen engine working lol.
LOL..this is Gabe Newell the guy who worked for Microsoft for 13 years before he finally broke off and funded his own company with another MS employee.
Also if I recall, he was not a fan of the PS2 as well and we all know how "horrible" the PS2 was. Lets just except the fact this guy loves making PC games and the 360 deving system is like making games for a PC so its perfect for him. His opinion means squat. And of course he will say that the Orange Box on the PS3 wont run as well as the PC and 360, could that be because EA are the ones doing it and not him. SO basically he is saying, nobody can port HL like I can.

While you were googling his past, did you notice he bashes VISTA every single chance he gets? He hates Vista and DX10 even more than the PS3. Microsoft definitely is not thrilled to hear one of the biggest pc game developers telling everyone to avoid DX10 and Vista.
Oh and by the way, Resistance is *a joke* compared to Orange Box. Even the gimped PS3 Orange Box will put Resistance to shame.
Also if I recall, he was not a fan of the PS2 as well and we all know how "horrible" the PS2 was. Javy03
To develop for? Yeah, it was. The reasons it did so well was it had an extremely competitive price, an early launch and a massive userbase which led to developer support in spite of its flaws. The PS3 has none of these advantages.

So why isn't he criticising the 360 port if he's so concerned about maintaing his image as the only one who can port his games? And why is your opinion (that his opinion means squat) more valuable than his?
I understand what he means, although unsure whether I agree or not. He's basically saying that "experience" gained from learning the PS3 architecture only benefits the PS3, where as a PC dev making a 360 game could take that multi-core experience with them to a PC platform.
Wasn't John Carmack that said the same thing? He chose 360 as Id's primary console platform because it was a head start on Multi-Core processors and a close representation of what future PC platforms would be like.

No, he said it'd be harder to get the version up to the standard of the PC and 360 versions. He doesn't want anything to do with the PS3, that's why EA developed the port, and not Valve. I say more power to him. He's right, in that the Cell and all that crap have no business being inside of a games system.

Basically CPU are going the whole multi-core route so gaining experience in using and developing for them is more useful then the PS3 cell which is basically useless cause its design is unique to it and not used in other CPU designs. Basically there saying you should work with the hardware thats going to be used in the future instead of something thats going to be useless in 10years.
He is saying it's a waste because it's a little harder to develop for? That is pretty silly. Just make the games and let the consumers decide what is or isn't a waste.
Chutebox
I don't think you realize the radical difference between the CPU designs of the cell compared to the multi-core standard, cell is completely unique in CPU design it has no counter part (that I know of).

Based on what? I like it. You dont have a PS3. You should do something productive with your time, perhaps call MS support and see when your refurbished 360 is coming back so you can play halo.

That's fine. Not everything in life is gonna be simple or easy. Other devs seem to be handling it quite well. I don't see why we should care what this guy says anyways.

Whilst its opinion in the end there are valid points to be made from it. I know people don't like to admit it but these guys know what they are talking about, most them are industry veterans and while there comments may seem stupid they actually have meaning.
In industry easy money is better then hard money, these are companies after all and lower development costs and higher profit reign supreme in the end, even if the profit is only in the immediate future they'll cash in and make profit then shift focus later, they in the end care about ease of development which keeps costs down and profit gained from there efforts.

Wow, so we're going to get into ALL of each company's faults? Okay. How's the Zune doing? Man, Windows is so reliable. Vista is sure taking off, isn't it. I think I saw someone posting somewhere that they actually bought Vista. Good for them.

What?!? he farmed out the 360 version to EA??? Are you sure, homey? I'm pretty sure 360 and PC were dev'd in house while the PS3 wasfarmed out. That's why the PC and 360 are both reviewed and out while the PS3 version is still getting crapped on by EA devs.

Well considering this is system wars...I almost wish PC gaming was dying, so that Gabe "One Trick Pony" Newell would go broke and starve to death. I hate that guy.

Lombardi did not identify a particular reason for the delay of the PS3 Orange Box, which is being ported by EA

wasn't really trying to get into it about every companies faults. the guy i commented to did. i just get tired of hearing people use the RROD as a insult to other player. just because the ps3 sucks ATM. all sonyfans say you have to wait for your system to come back from MS because of RROD. i've had the 360 going on 2 years now and never broke down on me and i'm sure other people never went thru the problem. sony fans are quick to dismis sony problems. so i just showing that sony is not perfect at hardware either.wasn't really trying to get into it about every companies faults. the guy i commented to did. i just get tired of hearing people use the RROD as a insult to other player. just because the ps3 sucks ATM. all sonyfans say you have to wait for your system to come back from MS because of RROD. i've had the 360 going on 2 years now and never broke down on me and i'm sure other people never went thru the problem. sony fans are quick to dismis sony problems. so i just showing that sony is not perfect at hardware either. v-vega75
Thats because the DRE were usually affecting the early launch consoles and have been sorted out. I remember a large amount of launch units would break after a few days, it happened to me infact but these problems got sorted out quickly.
With the 360, even some of the new Elites are getting RROD despite the 360 being out for how long now?
