Amusing. I do not care what type of rep Gabe Newell of Valve has, his statements are nothing more than opinionated diatribes which show his slant towards where he knows that he will make the most money.

He is a PC boy that also happens to be in love with Bill Gate$ and Micro$oft because console wise, he can make games easier and cheaper for the 360, and make more money on a larger installed base. It has nothing to do with the PS3 being a "mistake", lol. It is just more expensive and more complex to develop on, in which case, it takes a bit more time and money. Therefore, he cannot stand it.

Afterall, there are plenty of other devs who seem to think that the PS3 will be just fine and has loads of growing room for the next few years, yet Gabe Newell says otherwise, lol. So what, he gave us Half Life, which is a great shooter. But don't you think that Half Life 3 should have been out by now, instead of Valve milking a nearly 3 year old game?

Money, cheap and easy development is all Gabe Newell obviously cares about, not embracing the challenge of new technology in order to try and push the limits of gaming. Too much money and effort involved for his liking when it comes to the PS3. Half Life 2 was/is good, but it is not God. Time to move on, Gabe ole' boy. Maybe you can cash in on the Wii as well, beings that ease of development and money are your blatantly obvious motivating factors here.

It seems to me that if he needed EA to do a port of a 2 1/2 year old game because he did not want to mess with the PS3, that maybe he is the one with the problem....not the PS3 itself. Yet within the midst of his diatribe against Sony and the PS3, he still manages to find time to plug the PS3 version of The Orange Box, saying that "PS3 owners will still find a great experience with the Orange Box....but it will never be as good as the PC and 360 version."

Sorry, Gabe, money hungry, Microsoft boot licking, lazy devs FTL. You can keep your Orange Box, I no longer care to purchase it, despite my interest in Portal. However, if you ever find the time to finally release Half Life 3 after you are done milking Half Life 2 to death, I may just show a bit of interest. As of now though, you, as well as Valve have lost the respect of a now former fan.

Tecmo, Ubisoft, Square-Enix....these are just a few of the names developing PS3 exclusives that have enjoyed the console. Didn't Ubisoft and Free Radical give EA a good slap to the face not too long after EA's Madden 08 PS3 issues. Didn't Square-Enix call the PS3 the "key to their dreams" earlier in the year and praised the console's capabilities?

Just cause a lazy developer doesn't take the time or invest the money to actually figure out the differences between PS3 development and 360/PC development doesn't mean they should have the right to just come out and thrash the console for their own inability to get the job done.

i) The 'low demand' is a result of Sony pricing it out of their fanbase - pretty stupid, but in no way indicative of any shortcomings of the hardware.

ii) Not all games scored lower than their 360 counterpart, or were delayed, eg the darkness, upcoming cod4, conan, and a whole bunch of new games coming out. This indicates that the problems with the ps3 are being solved, and inferior ports will soon be a thing of the past.

iii) The fact that some games are absolutely identical on both platforms indicates that inferior ports are due to less time and experience with the hardware aswell as it being harder to develop for in the first place, combined with developers not willing/having the time to learn the hardware properly

I think this has more to do with Valve's inabililty to develop anything good on any platform that isn't a PC or a console with PC-like architecture(XBOX360). Infinity Ward, by the way shows that they can make not only good games in their comfort zone but are versatile enough to bring that same experience to PS3, a platform who's architecture they aren't familiar with. LOL if only that was the reality. The reality is that Sony released a "super computer game console" that is really inefficient and full of programming obstacles. You can't make the PS3 something it's not. Valve are the kings of optimization. Half-Life 2 is not a very demanding game. If PS3 can't run HL2 well without sacrificing visuals then there is something wrong with the PS3 not the developer. Sony made ENORMOUS mistakes in preparing developers and giving devs the tools they need to write code for the cell. Perhaps once Sony gets on the ball with the right developers they will be able to work some magic, but in all honesty there should not have to be any "magic" for a game to play great on a new console.

PS3 version of orange box will inevitably be messed up, probably more than usual. Hopefully, now that most developers have some experience with the ps3, future multiplats will look the same on both platforms. Hell, if the darkness was able to manage it months ago, it shouldn't be much of a problem next year.

I was probably going to get orange box on 360, but gabe being such a d**k has put me off. Nevertheless i realize missing out on a great game because the developer is a d**k is a bit stupid, so i probably will get it someday, but i really dont want any of my money ending up in his already fat pockets

It sounds like PS3 is getting a GIMPED Orange Box. That's such a shame, first a two month delay, then after their long wait, they get a crappy port. Such a shame. SecretNuAccount

1. Epic is paid by Sony for UE3 to run better on ps3(and the exclusivity stuff)
2. Mark Rein keeps changing his opinions every second, talk about gears of war and he'll say 360 is the best, talk about UT3 and he'll say there is nothing like Ps3, he just changes his opinions to whatever he likes
