[QUOTE="accameron"]Final Fantasy. Please, at least lose the Final Fantasy name, and have some spin off series, using the same gameplay and characters and graffics. Having THIRTEEN games main games with the name Final Fantasy, and countless Final fantasy spin off games with FF in the title (FF Tactics, etc). PLEASE KILL OFF FINAL FANTASY, OR AT LEAST THE NAME. TriangleHard

no Final Fantasy games use same gameplay, character, or graphics except for one spin off direct sequel called Final Fantasy X-2

Obviously, you know nothing about Final Fantasy games.

yes, trianglehard, absolutely right. i understand cameron's point would make sense, if every ff game continued the same story, but they don't. they're all completely different. the only things they share are the name final fantasy and a character called cid.

I am suprised nobody has said the Tomb Raider series yet. I also vote to kill off:l-_-l

what are you talking about? the Tomb raider series have made a damn good comeback with legends and the aniversary edition, crystal dynamics (the creater of the legacy of kain series) did a great job

 Not a chance. TR1+2 was the best in the series.

While I agree those were the best, especially the original, I think the series is back on an upswing, so i wouldn't kill it now.

Final Fantasy - Going downhill since IV IMHO.

Mega Man Battle Network - Some would say Mega Man in general, but there are some of the sub-series that I would like to see sequels for (Legends, mostly). But the frigging BN series needs to end. I liked them when they were new. BN2 and 3 were great games, but now it's always the same damn thing, and they release multiple versions of the samegame which makes it even more of a dead horse.

Madden - Seriously, who buys this crap? I don't like sports games in general, but every year it's the same thing just with a new roster.

Crash Bandicoot - Worst created by comittee corporatewhore fuzzy animal with a 'tude since Bubsy. At least the games themselves were decent before Insomniac sold off the license.

Spyro - Another victim of Insomniac selloff. First game, great. Second game, awesome. Third game, good... After that, straight down the crapper.

GrlGmr

Final Fantasy is still good in some ways. The main franchise is solid and a few select spin off series like Tactics Advanced are good, I am hoping that Crystal Chronicles will be a decent game as well. But Square definatly needs to stop milking it with remakes for handhelds, I would rather just see old games redone for consoles or crammed into a collection like the Sonic games from last gen.

I agree with Battle Network, the Zero/ZX series is still fairly good, I am hoping ZX Advent will be a decent game. For me Battle Network went down the toilet after BN3 which was an excellent game. I skipped BN4 but tried out 5 for the DS which has some cool chips but otherwise it is the same story just with a few plot twists.

People buy Madden, mainly Americans, same with NBA games, whereas us Canadians and Europeans might buy the NHL games.

Agreed on Spyro, I hope Crash Bandicoot is dead too.

Okay here's mine, feel free to agree/disagree: 1. Sonic, the franchise has been creatively bankrupt for ages. 2. Castlevania, FOR THE LOVE OF GOD it's the same thing over and over again. 3. Final Fantasy Spin Offs/remakes. The numbered FF's are awesome, I hate the spinoffs and remakes. 4. Tony Hawk: Jesus, Jesus Christ. 5. Need for Speed: It's like the 18th game in the franchise now.

Thief is dead. But so was System Shock. Actually - I would just like to see all of Looking Glass's Studios' series stay dead. Unless they reform. Which they won't.

[QUOTE="Heil68"]Sonic and Mariomarioraider

Why is everyone saying Mario? Has there everbeen one bad Mario game? Mario Party should end, of course, Mario sport spin-offs are pretty fun. But why kill off Mario all-together?

Sonic, well, go back to 2-D gaming.

Yes.

http://www.gametrailers.com/player/24502.html

The good ones FAR more than outweigh the bad though, so it's all good.

Apparently FF13 is a billion dollar project, with all sorts of spinoffs coming over the next 5-10 years or so. They said something like that at the big SE gamer's day a while back. Saddening, considering the franchises they could revive.

all sports games in general.

Yeah, because they're so bad, right? Please.

killzone (i mean seriously 1st one sucked so will the second stop now before it is too late)

Killzone hardly started -- why would it need to die? The first sucked? Great, lets hope they get this one right.

final fantasy(jesus h christ this series is getting old just give up square enix you had your glory now go die in a hell hole)

Square's Flagship RPG series? One of the most highly acclaimed series of all time? Change the name, I guess... but I wouldn't mind seeing the series continue as long as it doesn't become redundant.

sonic(Don't even get me started on the crap known as sonic the hedgehog)

I agree, but only 3D-Sonic should die. 2D Sonic is great.

warcraft and gulid wars(dear god seriously these gamesare crap stop now. i hate MMORPGs)

Guild Wars is one game.. and it has a planned sequal. Warcraft 1-3, and WoW are some of the best PC games (RTS and MMO respectively). Saying Warcraft needs to die is just a huge bias, and it's apparent you havn't played Blizzard games before.

and there is probably more but i can't remember.

wiirdawgs

Dynasty Warriors, Ratchet and Clank, Need for Speed. Pokemon spin offs should die, but the core Nintendo Pokemon games are always great.

A series should die when it suffers from redundancy and crappy gameplay. Just because it has a lot of sequals or you dislike it, doesn't mean it should die. Dynasty Warriors is a universal, when it comes to dying, though.

People who say Mario must hate platforming in general. And if you hate platforming, go away, cause platforming is the best.

I love MOH, so who says MOH wont go the same path COD 4 did?

Medal of Honor: The Cold War

Medal Of Honor: Vietnam War

Medal Of Honor: The Iraq War

Medal Of Honor: The Iraq War 2 (Sorry bad joke...)

I want more FPS shooters in the Modern era, like maybe future wars? (Nah) maybe wars that are never talked about? The Korea War? Or even a FPS that has you tracking Terrorist agents around the global?

I want just one more Pokemon game where Picachu gets rabies and kills all of the Pokemon before killing off Link, Sonic and Mario and then Picachu gets to die an excruciating death.

Sonic does NOT need to die. That's totally ridiculous. Prepare for a wall of text.

Listed are all of the Sonic games and their Gamerankings scores starting from the launch of the Dreamcast. The scores are rounded to the nearest whole number and the higher score was taken for the multiplatform titles. They have been broken down into categories..

A lot of people say that "all 3D Sonic games are bad", or "Sonic doesn't belong in 3D". I don't see it:
Sonic Adventure-87%
Sonic Adventure 2-84%
Sonic Heroes-74%
Sonic and the Secret Rings-71%
Sonic the Hedgehog-46%

I see two great games, two good games, and one bad game.

The Sonic Adventure (Dreamcast versions, we'll get to the Gamecube ports later, along with Shadow the Hedgehog) games, while not without flaws, were simply awesome. People seem to forget that Sonic's first ventures into an entirely 3D world were very successful. The cla*sic Sonic atmosphere was there, but it felt fresh and new. There hadn't been a true Sonic platformer on a console since Sonic CD. The levels and gameplay modes were varied and interesting.

Heroes was a very good game, but a lot of people thought that it was weighed down by the over-use of other characters and somewhat limited gameplay. It wasn't very difficult, and controls became an issue at some points. The game relied too heavily on the abilities of Tails and Knuckles, and they seemed to slow Sonic down at times. Still, it recieved generally favorable reviews and turned out to be a very good game. The narrow level design eliminated a lot of camera issues without taking away from the game's sense of speed.

Secret Rings was a good game as well, but it was just a little too simplified. It was basically a run-and-jump game with back-tracking issues. It took hits from the critics for the story, sound track, voice acting, and the annoying "helper" similar to Navi the Fairy from Ocarina of Time. The only gameplay-related issues were regarding the few times when you had to go backwards through the levels. The on-rails approach completely destroyed the camera issues, and the Wii Remote control seemed ideal for it.

Even Sonic '06 wasn't terrible, per se, but it had a lot of flaws that should have been fixed in the series long ago. The camera, controls, acting, storyline, and other things were as dated as ever, (although slightly improved over Shadow) but this game also included annoying puzzle elements among other things. A good time can be had with the game by hardcore fans, but it does not live up to the name of its predecessors.

Handheld Sonic has been nothing short of outstanding:
Sonic Advance 2-85%
Sonic Advance-84%
Sonic Rush-83%
Sonic Advance 3-80%

Not a whole lot needs to be said about these games. 2D Sonic games are as strong as they've ever been. Sonic Advance was one of the most praised series on the Game Boy Advance, and Sonic Rush was pretty much an extension of it.

It's been the ports, compilations, and spin-offs that have given the series a bad name (which is Sega's fault), and even then, most of the games have been at least decent, and some of them ave been great.

Sonic Advance and Sonic Pinball Combo Pack-80% (compilation)
Sonic Pinball Party-79% (spin-off)
Sonic Mega Collection-76% (compilation)
Sonic Adventure 2 Battle-72% (port)
Sonic Battle-70% (spin-off)
Sonic Gems Collection-66% (compilation)
Sonic Rivals-66% (spin-off)
Sonic Adventure DX-63% (port)
Sonic Riders-62% (spin off)
Sonic Shuffle-57% (spin off)
Shadow the Hedgehog-53% (spin-off)
Sonic the Hedgehog Genesis-33% (port)

The two compilations of older games cannot really be judged by today's standards. They contain wonderful games such as Sonic CD, Sonic 2, Sonic 3, and Sonic and Knuckles. They scored low because some publications find it hard to justify paying 30+ dollars for 10-20 year old games (plus the Game Gear games look terrible on a fullscreen TV).

Sonic Battle and Pinball Party were spin-offs, but they kept the Sonic feel and turned out to be pretty good games. They were about as deep as a pinball game and a fighting game on GBA could be.

Rivals tried something new, and succeeded to some extent. The side-scrolling multiplayer racer had never really been done before. The game layed a nice foundation that is sure to be improved upon in Sonic Rivals 2 (shown at E3).

The Gamecube ports scored low because they failed to improve upon the well-documented flaws of the Dreamcast games. DX had a lot of space-filler in between levels that genuinely took away from the gameplay experience, but it still includes the wonderful aspects of the original game. SA2:Battle suffered the same fate as DX. This time, however, a lot of the problems came from being forced into boring and tedious levels away from the main game and main characters (Big the Cat fishing FTL). Most reviews of both games agree that they were still good games, but they scored lower because they failed to improve (and in some cases made worse) the camera and sound issues from the Dreamcast games. Still, these games are definitely worth a purchase if you don't own a Dreamcast.

Sonic Riders and Sonic Shuffle are poor attempts at copying Mario Kart and Mario Party. Riders suffers from minor control issues and a flawed trick system which may end up knocking you off of your "GEAR". Shuffle was a Dreamcast minigame compilation. It suffered from ridiculous load times, lack of variety, and camera issues (sound familiar?). Both games can be very fun if you're playing with friends or in short bursts.

There is no excuse for Shadow the Hedgehog. Not only does it fail to improve upon the old flaws of the series, it introduces new ones. The camera, controls, story, and acting are terrible. It's like controlling Sonic '06, but downhill and on roller-skates, yet somehow slightly slower. The gun system is totally useless and it's very difficult to complete even basic takes due to the movement problems. Again, if you are willing to look past all the flaws, it can be pretty fun. But that doesn't excuse it from bringing down Sonic's good name.

Sonic Genesis was a sloppy port of the original Sonic the Hedgehog game. It was basically the same game, but the GBA version suffered from such terrible view perspectives and frame rates that players would often find themselves falling to their demises before they even realized it. Easily the only game in the series that offers absolutely nothing to anyone.

When talking about the Sonic series, people seem to focus on the bad rather than the good, and there is plenty of good to be found. It seems that people blindly follow the numbers associated with the review scores rather than the content of the reviews themselves. The majority of the series' problems rest in camera issues (resolved somewhat in Heroes and Secret Rings), voice acting, sound tracks, storylines (who plays Sonic for the story anyways?) and controls (only in Sonic '06 and Shadow).

To judge an entire series based on what is mostly a few bad ports and spin-offs with a few sub-par entries in the main series is ridiculous. There are still plenty of quality Sonic games to be found. If you don't like one of the games in the series, there's a simple solution: ignore it instead of trashing an entire series over it. It's perfectly fine to dislike Sonic the Hedgehog, because everyone has different tastes. But to bash the series and dismiss each game as bad is totally ridiculous, because the general consensus around the gaming industry is positive.

Just because you don't like the series doesn't mean it deserves to die. Millions of people enjoy it, and it gets pretty decent reviews.

It's obvious that the series does not live up to the Genesis clas.sics. But you need to learn to appreciate the new games based on their own merits, rather than trashing them for their flaws.

There are alot of games franchises that are absolutely horrible, whether they used to be good or not, but for some reason, they just won't die. Here's a few of them.

Sonic: Stop. Just stop. Stop running, drop the rings, and give the hell up.You're old Sonic. Your games are awful. Your devs are lazy-ass idiots. Sure you had a glorious past; but those days are over now. It's time to crawl into your little hedgehog hole and die quietly. Say hello to John Romero for me while you're down there.

Dynasty Warriors: Seriously, do I need to say anything besides the name? How many lame duck sequels do we need to see for this series? Dynasty Warriors sequelsnever does anything better than their predecessors. They are always the same game, with same boring hack and slash garbage. Seriously, it's time for Koei to just kill this abomination. The entrie series is an affront to gaming as a whole.

3D Castlevania: Stay in 2D and out of 3D. No, step back, turn around, lower the whip, and stay in 2D forever. It's where you belong.

Medal of Honor: Sorry guys. The age of WWII games is over. Go away. We don't want to play with you or your Nazi friends ever again. Your medal of honor is quickly rusting away into a medal of pathetic shame, and CoD 4 is going to crush you into oblivion. Just quit now, and take it like a man.

And finally, one game that needs to die in the womb...

System Shock 3: Don't do it EA. Please. You have Madden, you have tons of money, please don't destroy the System Shock name. I'm begging you, don't do it, for the love of all that is good in the universe.

Well, that's it for me, I surely ignored some big contenders, so I want you guys to fill in the blanks for me.

What game franchises do you think should die?

jethrovegas

EA to release system shock 3, (SCOBY VOICE) WHAWHAWHA WHAT??? Man talk about flopage of a name.

BioShock is the successor to System Shock 2. :(

Madden - How can this series continue on when it doesn't even have Madden in it anymore? On top of that it has been garbage every year since '05. '04 was the last decent game. 4 years ago.DarthaPerkinjan

It amazes me how many people wish a game would die in which they probably know nothing about. Its also sad that people think a franchise that sells millions upn millions and has stayed at AA and AAA should die. Read my sig and then re-evaluate your thought process.

 even when series keep on getting good scores people think it needs to die.

No wonder why a lot of people here think that a 7.5 game isn't even worth ofexisting, despite being labeled by GS as "good"

It's even worse with the Sonic series. People think Shadow and Sonic '06 represent all of Sonic.

it'd be awesome if sega released a sonic game on next gen consoles that had Little big planet type graphics. If it was 3d like LBP but you've moved in the old skool way side-scrolling way.

I know you own a custom Gamecube, and I know you're very critical of Dreamcast (compared to other SEGA systems). Which system do you like more?

I'm surprised at all the people wanting Mario to die off

Mario IS video games. Can't imagine videogames without him

DarthaPerkinjan
Me too. Mario will never die, he's the most well known videogame character around the world. That's like Disney killing off Mickey Mouse, he's too big of an icon to go away.

I wouldn't be wearing a Sonic cape.

It's not even close to my favorite SEGA series.

I was only joking. But I do find funny that you have a SEGA union since from what I've seen you do like the Nintendo system's better, not just the GameCube.

Me? I do like SEGA systems better, even the Dreamcast.

I love the Dreamcast, but the Mega Drive and Saturn do deserve more recognition.

Madden - Seriously, who buys this crap? I don't like sports games in general, but every year it's the same thing just with a new roster.

Because Madden is basicly the same game every year with slight tweaks and updated rosters. That's like if Bungie released a new Halo every year, or Nintendo released a new Mario or Metroid every year. EA is milking people, makingthem spend $50-$60 every year on an updated roster and some slight tweaks.

I like Nintendo and SEGA systems about the same, actually. I'll take the Gamecube over the Dreamcast, but I could never decide between the Saturn and N64, or the SNES and Genesis.

SOnic and Dyanasty Warriors. Oh, and the Gundam games.

$10 says a Sony zealot states 'Halo' within the first two pages.

Verge_6

Halo should die after the series is done. If they string it out too much with spin-offs it's just going to ruin the franchise name. Halo Wars is already looking pretty mediocre. A Halo based space RTS on PC like Homeworld would be nice though. I really liked the battles in the books.

Nothing needs to die because it all serves a market. Believe it or not SOMEONE has to still be buying those Dynasty Warriors games. It would be nice to have all developement effort focused on big budget awesome hardcore games but it just isn't gonna happen. Studios have to have secure generic casual junk and licensed games to have steady income. At least one good thing about this gen though is it is really going to separate the crap from the great games more than ever before.

Sonic should be put down though if they're not going to bother to make a good game anymore. All they manage to do is piss fans off by making junk. I mean Sonic Adventure in 1999 for the DC launch is a far superior game..... wtf is Sega's problem these days?

Final Fantasy. Definently.

If you have to make 13 main games, could you atleast stop remaking the old ones?

And do we really need 3 spin offs for each of those 13 games?

JUST STOP IT

And Tony Hawk should have stopped at 4.. everything since then has been a disgrace to the name :O

I am suprised nobody has said the Tomb Raider series yet. I also vote to kill off:

Devil May Cry

Mario (Oh god PLEASE kill off Mario already)

Pokemon

Metal Gear

Madden (how many times can you play the same game before you realize....YOU ARE PLAYING THE SAME GAME)

World War 2 games

I think I could come up with more if I kept thinking about it.

l-_-l

that means every sports game should die as they haven't changed for ages
