Personally, I would love this. Pokemon Ruby and Sapphire are often criticized and seen as the weakest entries in the series, but that would be precisely why I think they could benefit so much from remakes. Moreover, I cannot think of a better game in the series that would actually benefit from 3D, what with these games' strong emphasis on story presentation and graphical cues.

What do you guys think?

Junichi Masuda of Gamefreak was asked on Twitter about the possibility of a remake for Pokémon Ruby and Sapphire. This is what hesaidin response:

Thanks for your thoughts. Ruby and Sapphire are important games to me. I will consider your request.

It's nothing concrete, so don't start anticipating anything. But there is that seed of possibility, so maybe something will eventually come of it?Nintendo3DSBlog

I liked Ruby and Sapphire, but the remakes could be made better than the original with adding back Gold/Silver/Crystal stuff (like real time, something Diamond/Pearl/Platinum did).

Really? The last mainline Pokemon game was released in 2007, the one after that in 2011. That's a difference of four years. Incidentally, a LOT changed between those two games. As for the remakes, HeartGold and SoulSilver released in 2010, SIX YEARS after the first remakes (FireRed and LeafGreen). Assuming that these games get announced enxt year for a 2013 release, that's a THREE YEAR difference. Where is this like Call of Duty at all?

Ruby and Sapphire did a lot of things wrong (horrible pacing, broken level curve), but they had an incredible overworld, some of the best Pokemon and I think the best music in the series. They clearly deserve a second chance, and I think that a remake might actually fix all their faults.

I tried playing Sapphire. Trying to catch Marril, which I never came across, I leveled up beyond the point where I could actually catch any pokemon. And then I quit the game and never turned back.

We had Platinum, Gold and Silver remake, and Black and White released back to back to back.A year apart. for each. On top of that, there's all the spinoffs (Mystery Dungeon, Ranger, etc.) Platinum in 2009, Gold/Silver in 2010, Black & White in 2011, now Ruby/Saphire coming out 2012.

just disgusting

rehashing the worst gen and it will sell millions

R/B & G/S needed a remake, since they were both so old, but nothing is wrong with R/S, except they are bad games, but they are not outdated

First, Ruby/Sapphire remakes are NOT coming out in 2012, they have just been hinted at. Secondly, the main Pokemon series has had FIVE games, each spaced out around two to three years:

Pokemon Red/Blue (1998 )
Pokemon Gold/Silver (2000)
Pokemon Ruby/Sapphire (2003)
Pokemon Diamond/Pearl (2007)
Pokemon Black/White (2011)

Moreover, each new game (or generation) has added substantially to the series. I wonder, would you call series like Street Fighter, Mario, Grand Theft Auto, Assassins Creed and Battlefield milked as well?

G/S didnt get remade until 10 years later, thats fine and everyone wanted a remake anyway, since G/S were the best games hands down

R/B got a remake after 9-10 years aswell, but R/S, which are by far the worst games getting a remake after 7 years? okay, this is just a way to sell the dying 3DS, since no one is buying it, they will chuck heaps of Pokemon games on it and hope it will sell

Add pokemon Platinum (2009), Pokemon Gold/Silver (2010 and Pokemon Black White (2011). These are all the "main games" as you term them. Mario isn't relased every year, just a "main game" with spinoffs on every console and handheld. (GBA is an exception becasue there were few Mario Games, most of them remakes, but I'll call them main games.) Battlefield isn't milked as we all know and Assassin's Creed I wouldn't know becasue I don't play whereas the pokemon series I used to play it.

Since the lowest selling Pokemon game is like 14 million sold, I am pretty sure they would be okay with those kind of sales again. Moreover, you forget that while in most generations, there is always a substantial difference between the sales of the first two paired games and the sales of the third one (like 18 million for Diamond/Pearl, 6 million for Platinum; 23 million for Gold/Silver, 4 million for Crystal), for the third generation, there was practically no difference. Ruby/Sapphire sold roughly 13 million units. Emerald sold 10 million. The overall combined sales of the third generation games are well on par with the other generations.

Actually, it's been almost ten years. Pokemon Ruby and sapphire came out in the spring of 2003 in the US. The game will turn ten next year in Japan.

If this remake is released, it will be in 2012 (Japan) and 2013 (rest of the world). That means that it will be released exactly ten years after the original games. So you were saying what?

Eh... I wouldn't. I mean, Gold and Silver got their remake not so long ago and half of that game is like a remake of Red and Blue, what with being able to run through the entire kanto region and collect the badges again after beating the elite 4.

. The idea of a remake of a remake is just ridiculous too.
