Yeah... Hell. Feels odd to think I was in middle school ten years ago. That was the first game I ever pre-ordered for that Collector coin.

[QUOTE="vashkey"]I'm kinda surprised since they're like, the worst core Pokemon games and the worst selling core Pokemon games. Thought they would have skipped it.charizard1605
Since the lowest selling Pokemon game is like 14 million sold, I am pretty sure they would be okay with those kind of sales again. Moreover, you forget that while in most generations, there is always a substantial difference between the sales of the first two paired games and the sales of the third one (like 18 million for Diamond/Pearl, 6 million for Platinum; 23 million for Gold/Silver, 4 million for Crystal), for the third generation, there was practically no difference. Ruby/Sapphire sold roughly 13 million units. Emerald sold 10 million. The overall combined sales of the third generation games are well on par with the other generations.

emerald sold 6 million, R/S/E are the worst selling games

R/B & G/S were even in sales, since they were both incredible games, R/S sold worst since it was a downgrade compared to G/S, Emerald gave back all the cut features that should have been in R/S from the start

It was awful, but I basically didn't give up on Pokemon becaue of it as I knew it's not the main series. Now, Diamond and Pearl, great games though they are, almost made me give up. Thankfully, HeartGold/SoulSilver were there to restore my faith in the series.

Pokemon was losing popularity back then too. I remember Yu-Gi-Oh was getting big back then and alot of the kids were getting into the mature games like GTA and Halo.

Oh yeah, you're right. Still, that puts the total sales of the third generation at 19.56 million units sold. From where I stand, that is a friggin success by any barometer, unless you are adamant on comparing Ru/Sa to R/B or G/S.

G/S didnt get remade until 10 years later, thats fine and everyone wanted a remake anyway, since G/S were the best games hands down

R/B got a remake after 9-10 years aswell, but R/S, which are by far the worst games getting a remake after 7 years? okay, this is just a way to sell the dying 3DS, since no one is buying it, they will chuck heaps of Pokemon games on it and hope it will sell

charizard1605

If this remake is released, it will be in 2012 (Japan) and 2013 (rest of the world). That means that it will be released exactly ten years after the original games. So you were saying what?

i guess

still, R/S are bad games and better graphics will not fix that

D/P were allready the same as R/S, you want better graphics and online play? then play D/P

They need to stop beating around the bush and just release a remake of each gen a week after it comes out.

Yes, they had issues like bad pacing and poor leveling curves, I agree. i am saying that maybe the remakes can address those issues and make them better games. Who knows? Maybe they will turn out fine!

its only like 4-5 million off the first 2 gens, it isnt much

they are pretty much all close, if you own a nintendo handheld, you might aswell buy Pokemon, another reason it may have sold worse is because of piracy, everyone had a GBA emulator

Well, it won't just be better graphics. A remake would most likely make use of all the new features present in Gen 5, as well as connectivity to Gen 5 games (meaning all Pokemon in Hoenn). It has potential.

if they add johto and let you go back, they will be the best games imo, i honestly think thats why alot of fans dont like R/S, they expected to go back to Kanto/Johto, that didnt happen of course

It's quite obvious they're going to remake Ruby/Sapphire.

Which I am 100% okay with since they are my favorite Pokemon games next to Gold/Silver.

Yes, I remember how many of my friends stopped buying games and started pirating them instead back then. I think the lower sales of Ruby/Sapphire had to do with three things: a) Pokemon was losing popularity b) Pokemon was already well past saturation (Red, Blue, Yellow, Gold, Silver and Crystal, in addition to three N64 games, a Pikachu acessory and Hey you Pikachu had all been released in the period 1998-2002) c) Pokemon Ruby/Sapphire simply weren't as good as Red/Blue and Gold/Silver Of course, later games would sell more than Ru/Sa ever did. But maybe these remakes can make better games out of Ru/Sa, who knows?

If you ever feel like giving Pokemon a go again, I recommend either HeartGold and SoulSilver (which seem to have been specifically made to appeal to relapsed Pokemon gamers) or Black/White (best Pokemon games, hell maybe even the best handheld games, ever). I am assuming they will greatly appeal to you!

Personally I was disapointed with Ruby and Sapphire for taking out the day/night cycle and weekdays, the Pokemon designs and just not changing things as significant as Pokemon Gold/Silver did.

The Pokemon games have corrected the gameplay mistakes Ruby and Sapphire made. I think the Pokemon designs are debatable. Fans today seem to be more accepting of it... I think the current fans will enjoy it. While I still don't like the new Pokemon I think the game will be alot more fun this go around. I still wont get it of course... I'm just making a point.

didnt Emerald bring back everything that was cut from R/S? meaning features that were in Crystal and not in R/S

Why? Colosseum was an updated and better Stadium with a real story mode. The only thing they could do on consoles that would make any sense is a new Colosseum.

D/P were actually not too bad, they were what R/S should have been, plus the online play, no need for link cables anymore, anyone remember link cables?

HaloinventedFPS
I remember them, they used to be so annoying... Online play was all well and good, and I was happy about the Physical/Special split, but seriously, Diamond and Pearl were so SLOW, and they had an awful wild Pokemon distribution (Ponyta is the only fire type wild Pokemon you can catch? Wut?) Black and White were excellent, they were what Diamond and Pearl should have been all along.

Nuts to a new Colosseum. We need an action RPG Pokemon on Wii U. You control the critters in combat.

still, R/S are bad games and better graphics will not fix that

D/P were allready the same as R/S, you want better graphics and online play? then play D/P

Not day and night, and not custom made Pokeballs either. Emerald was good, but all the features that were removed in Ru/Sa didn't return until last year and HG/SS.

Ugh. Seriously? Pokemon=CoD; its that bad.

Except Poke'mon actually has substantial amount of content to incite a purchase, as opposed to COD's 5 hour long campaigns of shallow corridor shooting.

No. They just made the Pokemon animate before battle like they did in Crystal, added Battle frontier and tweaked the whole Kyoger/Groudon part of the story a bit... Which is why I didn't get it.

God, no. Everything else is an action RPG now, let Pokemon be turn-based.

Pokemon needs to remain turn based. At best, give it a time based bar like Final Fantasy used to have, but please, nothing more.

I absolutely loved Ruby/Sapphire/Emerald. I replayed them the most out of any pokemon game. They did have some major problems, and I could see how many find them to be the worst in the series, but I still love them. I think 3rd gen has the best pokemon designs next to 1st gen, which might be why I like the games so much. 4th gen just sucked for me, the online play was good, but the games themselves fell flat. Black and White though are amazing, possibly the best pokemon games to date. GS criminally underrated those games, I give them a 9.

Sure Pokemon's main single player might be long (depending on how you play; I used to play where everything on my team was the same level and it would take me a week to beat the main game) but it gets boring after a while when you're basically playing the same game under a different cover (collect 8 badges, beat "evil" team and beat E4, become champ and do nothing afterward (except the stadiums and challenges.)

Sold!, especially if 3DS exclusive. And to those saying "would rather have emerald remake"...HG and SS included elements of Crystal in them, such as the suicune side story. Emerald enhancements should be in place, if changed a little
