Direct quote from Game Informer April 2007 Magazine:

"It's a shame we all bought the supposed 'premium' Xbox 360 already, but the extra space is very welcome for multimedia purposes. HDMI isn't too huge, but at least it'll give Sony one less PS3 stat to brag about. As far as the price tag for the 120GB goes, what a rip-off! In two minutes online, I found a 500GB PC har drive for around the same price. Plus, when you add the price of an HD-DVD drive to this black box, you're looking at $680. Suddenly the PS3 doesn't seem so overpriced."

Where in the magazine did you find this?  Game Infarcer?

That is obvious. Should also be obviouse it doesn't have blu-ray with it?

exaclty, just accept the fact that you were complaining how PS3 costs. Now 360 costs more with the HDdvd drive. PS3 comes with bluray out of the box.

the point is i dont want the hd dvd drive so for me the xbox 360 elite is only 479 still cheaper than a ps3 L0L

+ $270 for online. Unless you want half the experience that PS3 users get. But, you are getting significantly less of an experience already, what with no HD movies and everything... So maybe you dont want a good experience with a console. Lets not forget buying extra controllers, AND the charger kids. But you dont want that do you? I mean, its OPTIONAL isnt it? You prefer a stripped down experience. Playing alone in a basement, noone there to enjoy a fullfilling experience with. But wait! On the plus side, you prefer to play 100% by yourself. So at least you wont need to see a long wire moving through your house, because you aint got no wifi.

to be fair LIVE is the console online servce that is the standard....if it wasnt sony wouldnt have been pushing HOME....they wouldnt have any reason to

Do you still have to pay to play with other gamers online? Exactly.

See, I have a gaming system for games. If I wanted a movie player, I'd buy one. As for the fee for Live, I gladly pay it in order to get a streamlined, unified experience that allows for more games to be played online. I don't see how cows can continue to bash paying for Live when Virtua Tennis just showed, convincingly, why paying a relatively small yearly fee is beneficial. 360 owners can play Virtua Tennis online, while PS3 owners cannot.

as a sub point for both online services AND consoles.....you really do get what you pay for

[QUOTE="bloodlust_101"] Bluray isnt useless... Its being used for games. But will rarely get used to its full potential. Rarely, maybe. But it is being put to use in: Final Fantasy 13 Metal Gear Solid 4 Resistance (launch title) And like mark said, soon games will be well over 20GB. MS Flight simulator is 20 GB (Was it 20? I think it might have been 14...)bloodlust_101

Compression is great though. It makes data fit into smaller spaces.

Clearly visible with the loading times on the games... You REALLY dont want to admit ANYTHING possitive about the PS3 do you?

The PS3 is a great system, but you are making up absurd points to justify it.

And the loads on PS3 games are minimal because of HDD caching, not the "superiority" of Blu-Ray or the compression.

Developers choice. Simple as that. And my argument is that those fees add up. Add up to $270 after a short time. Which brings the 360s price beyond the PS3. Also, thats 5 games worth of online fees. You know, the fees that SONY doesnt charge to play online?

the whole two games that are pushing online gaming on ps3...sure there are a few more but they are not famed for the online aspect like res ant moto...whereas the 360 library is majority online enabled

rather have a choice then being forced

That is what my little 6 year niece tells me all the time...Seriously, she does.

But it's true, I rather have a choice than being forced to buy something, I want a gaming console, and I didn't bought the HDDVD drive, why? cuz I don't need it.

When are you force to buy something? I was force to buy a cheeseburger when all I wanted was a hamburger. Going by your logic.

Xbox 360 uses 2.5 inch laptop hard drives. The one the guy found was a 5.25 inch hard drive, which are cheaper than laptop hard drives. If you have an adapter , of course you can use the PC hard drive. But Im guessing most people dont, so its fruitless to look for PC hard drives for something that isnt compatible with them.nytrospawn

Another thing 360 doesnt have. A standard HDD. Whats so absurd about the points Im making? They are ALL correct. I didnt spread any lies, did I? Compression isnt exactly the most possitive thing you know. Why compress when you dont have to? Why take the resources decompression? With BluRay, you dont have to. And developers so far, like that. The only ones who dont like it, are the 360 fanboys. When there isnt a single developer complaint about BluRays size, it means its good. When developers complain about DVD-9s size, it means its, wait.. get this... NOT good.

The bottom line is the 360 is cheaper. If I wanted to watch high def dvds i would get a ps3 because then its a better deal but from a purely gaming stand point 360 yes even the elite is a better deal. It is cheaper then the 20gb ps3 and has a 120 gb hdd, more games, and a better online experience. If you need a wireless adapter then you can find a cheap $20 one just google it and there its the same as 20gb ps3 now but every thing else about it is better. Blu ray is not neccassary i dont care what any one says. I would rather switch my disc then pay more money for the inconvience of getting up.

And yet, I still have supported the PS3 in many threads, as well as PC gaming, the Wii, and the 360, and I have posted negative things about each of them. But if you cannot create real, decent reasons that the PS3 is "the best", then I have every right to question the reasoning.

You can buy a 360 with no hard drive, then a 64mb mem card for $340. That isn't enough storage for anything but saves, and some games require the hard drive.

All I am saying is that $50 a year is not that much money for what you get in return. If PSN did everything that Live did, and was free, then MS should be kicked really hard, and if Home takes off and does that, MS better drop the fee, or offer something spectacular in return for the fee.

You can get anything for free if you really want to. You can use XB Connect to play online for free. Its not a great system, but it works. I would much rather pay $50 a year for the added benefits I get from Live.

All I am saying is that $50 a year is not that much money for what you get in return. If PSN did everything that Live did, and was free, then MS should be kicked really hard, and if Home takes off and does that, MS better drop the fee, or offer something spectacular in return for the fee.

thats what i hope they will do....that is if HOME becomes the thing to beat on consoles interms of online services..but sharing user created atuff(movies mainly) with friends for free is almost a given success

Even the Elite is cheaper than the 20GB PS3. Enough Saidluckystar23

With the same HDMI, 1080p, and a hard drive that is 6 times larger. Life is good :)

[QUOTE="asmallchild"]Lemmings would never do that! Silly! :PSpruceCaboose

And yet, I still have supported the PS3 in many threads, as well as PC gaming, the Wii, and the 360, and I have posted negative things about each of them. But if you cannot create real, decent reasons that the PS3 is "the best", then I have every right to question the reasoning.

Real decent reasons huh? Blu Ray > DVD-9 Free, lag free online serive > $270 (in time) online with lag USB cable to recharge > Buying a separate charger kit Reliable hardware > Some people on their 5th 360 Standard HDD > Nonstandard HDD Card readers > no card readers Bluetooth > no bluetooth Wifi > no wifi Replace HDD with ANY 2.5 inch detachable HDD, without voiding warrenty > 360s setup HDMI + composite + component > composite + component And thats just for hardware.

[QUOTE="bloodlust_101"]But if you can get Everquest for free. Why pay? You wouldnt. If you say to support the game. Why dont you donate $50 a year to your favorite video game company? NOT including buying their games. I mean litterally, donate $50 a year to them.SpruceCaboose

You can get anything for free if you really want to. You can use XB Connect to play online for free. Its not a great system, but it works. I would much rather pay $50 a year for the added benefits I get from Live.

Explain XB Connect please. I havent researched into this.

Is it COMPLETELY free?

Legal?

Has all the features of XBL?

Lag free? Same speed?

If even 1 of those isnt a 'no', then you are stripping down your experience.

Edit: errr... Except for Legal... If thats a no then it wont strip down the experience, but it shouldnt be even mentioned on this forum either. Especially as an alternative.

Like I said. If Sony pulls it off, MS has some explaining to do.

As for the PS3, it is a new console that has not hit its stride yet. It will be a great system with many great games, but using the same tired, lame, price excuse (going either way) as a reason a console is better or worse is not convincing.

I will own a PS3, once its cheaper, because, while $500-$600 is a good deal for a system with Blu-Ray, it is still too expensive for me, and I don't care about either HD format right now.

And yes, something can be a good deal and still be too expensive.

It is not XBL, it is not endorsed by MS, and it is as lag free as the host. As for legal, yes, as far as I know.

It basically emulates having a LAN party. It was most popular for playing Halo: CE online.

That is obvious. Should also be obviouse it doesn't have blu-ray with it?

rather have a choice then being forced

That is what my little 6 year niece tells me all the time...Seriously, she does.

But it's true, I rather have a choice than being forced to buy something, I want a gaming console, and I didn't bought the HDDVD drive, why? cuz I don't need it.

When are you force to buy something? I was force to buy a cheeseburger when all I wanted was a hamburger. Going by your logic.

Huh? :?

You can choose whether or not you want a hamburger or cheeseburger. It might depend on what place you're at obviously, but most notably, at McDonald's, you can choose a hamburger or cheeseburger.

I don't know. I don't use the thing. I told you I pay for and use Live. I said its a free alternative. I never claimed to know everything about it. If you are that interested, Google the thing.

As for Voice, video, text, buddy lists, downloads, patches, you can get those for free on Live with Silver.

Why would you buy a second one?

I enjoy having the latest version of the hardware. That and I have a product replacement plan from Best Buy. :D All I owe is the $80 difference. I'm also hoping that Microsoft addressed the reliability issues from the original. I've already had two die out. While the third has been running beautifully (no disc reading errors, no freezing, no scratched discs), it does run a bit louder than my first two. Hopefully all that is ironed out. In some ways, enhanced reliability is perhaps the best thing this new version offers. (The hard drive space is nice and I can do without the HDMI since my PS3 currently occupies that spot :P)

But not play other people right? The biggest point. Your paying $270 to play other people. We pay nothing, and have less lag accompanied with it. THATS what Im saying. Understand? Playing other people online, increases the 360s price by $270 after 5 years. Playing other people online, increases the PS3s price by $0 after 5 years.

Yesterday in 30 seconds I found a 120 gigabyte 2.5" SATA PS3 compatible hard drive for $115.Redfingers

I bought a Toshiba 120GB SATA for my 20GB PS3 on newegg.com for 89.00. Not bragging or making a comparison to yours, just further solidifying Game Informer's remarks about the 360 120GB being a "RIP-OFF."

Like I said earlier, since everyone is ignoring it, I am not trying to bash the PS3. I will own one myself at some point. But quite simply, PSN does not yet compare with Live. If Home is everything Sony promises it to be, then MS needs to revise their strategy.

However, you using some illogical pricing arguement by adding all these un-needed things into the costs of the systems is not working.

You can clearly see through it everytime, and you can use it against any of the consoles. You want to add HD-DVD, someone could add on a headset. You want to add Live, someone adds cables.

You could eventually just add one every game for the systems, plus any downloads, and everything else you could buy. And that works for any system.

And anyone, on any network, claiming there is no lag is just bull. There is going to be lag as long as networks are different, instantaneous data transfers still don't exist,  and ISPs are different.

And like I said, the unified online with Live supported in every game is worth the $50 a year to me.

If you want to play vs other people. Its not optional, you MUST pay the fee. You dont NEED HD cables to play games. You can add on the price of a headset, but you can find Bluetooth headsets cheaper than the official 360 one IIRC. So it makes the 360 more expensive. You also ignored my post, on how the ps3 is better, hardware wise, than the 360. And the online pricing argument ISNT illogical. If you dont wanna pay for online, you cant play online. For PS3, you dont have to pay to play. Its just that simple. PSNP has yet to give me lag. Can anyone HONESTLY say the same for XBL (you know.. the one you PAY for)?
