Gamermetrics: who has the better games PS3 or X360?

As an owner of both systems, rather than continue to watch the serial arguments for which system has the better library of games, I have elected perform an actual scientific analysis of the question and come up with some answers.

As it turns out, one game system does in fact have a statisitically significantly better library of games, as determined by gamespot.

The answer: The PS3.

Want to know how this was determined, and why it isn't such a bad thing? Please see my blog, as it is a little too much to post here in the forums.

I am sure I will get my fare share of flames, but I am hoping that some will actually read the full blog post. It really isn't a slam against the X360, it ientifies an interesting phenomenon to explain why the SP3 exclusive library is better. I would have just posted it here, butI know I'll get "wall of text" comments and such.

With VG becoming such a large a widespread medium, I honestly believe their are a lot of very intelligent people out there who will find my analysis interesting. I am writing to share with them, not to anger fan boys or incite a riot.

An as for the seocnd commenter on a my lack of logic, actually, ths analysis is based entirely on logic, not opinon, other than the subjective nature of reviews in general. I didn't contirubte a single reivew that as used in the analysis, so my opinion is only relfected in my explanation of my finindings. To tell the truth, I actually assumed I would find no difference at all, or a small advantage for the X360, I was as surpirsed as the next guy.

Theres a difference between 360 sales and Wii sales. 360 actually has more A-AAA then PS3 while WIi doesnt. Thats why we use sales.

Just saying......the gaming maket doesnt care much for the PS3 in comparison to 360. And you talk like Halo 3 and Gears 2 are mediocre games :roll:

The 360 has made a profit.......its increased its marketshare substantially sicne last gen. PS3 on the other hand is the biggest market share loser in video game history :lol:

And last I checked, 360 is performeing much better in Japan, with only a 2 million behind PS3, a number that NA and Europe can easily make up for.

Sorry, PS3 isnt as liked as 360, especially if you factor in software sales.

it has one AAAA and no, it has less AAA. Atcually Halo Wars is a great game its a shame it was criticized for being too simplistic. That certainly isnt a flaw with me ans I am a novice rts gamer.

It makes WIndows "the market leader", it can arguably mean "most preferred" (as MS OS PCs are vastly cheaper then Macs, especially in this recession).

- MS actually confirmed that the 360 will stick around for *** as long as the market wants it to be***. Unlike XBox, the 360 has cost cutting manufacturing and is actually now making a profit.

- Actually the lead was never 8 million when PS3 launched. The elad it has over PS3 now is the biggest gap ever since launch.

-Where are the games???Check Metacritic.com. Plenty more A-AAA 360 games over PS3. And 360's 09 is just fine.

- Atcually 360 is gonna reach 1 million withing the month as trends are going. And thx for dodging the FACT that 2 million gap in Japan is a number that 360 NA and EUrope base can more then make up for.

Are your calculations based upon the entire libraries of each? This is probably where the methodology you use fails to apply to real life situations.

In reality, the abundance of low-end, shovelware games on a particular console have little affect upon consumer choice - we choose a console for the games we like, not dismiss or 'mark down' a console for the games we don't like.

Also, less tangible parameters such as genre and variety cannot be accounted for. (If all games on one console were FPS's, could the library still be regarded as 'better')

Just a thought anyway...

If you also take away PC/360 exclusives, it does not really have more exclusives.

Real definition of exclusive is "Not divided or shared with others" which means pc/360 exclusives are not really exclusive. You cannot fight real fact, especially since you keep talking about the real world, where everyone who has a ps3 probably has a computer.

Last time i checked market share does not affect the console or the consumer buying it. It only affects the company, so unless you own the company its not a very good argument.

For the record, my actual opinon is that the two libriaries are pretty similar, a gamer should just pick which console they perfer the exclusives for. As mentioned earlier by including the outlying shovelware games that make up a consoles library, we get a skewed view as to which one is 'better'

If x console has 8 games available - 2 being great and 6 being terrible compared to console y, which has 20 great games and 500 terrible ones, does the former possess a 'better' library than the latter? Using your methodology it does, however for the gamer they would of course only be concerned for the latter's higher number of decent games.

Now this is an interesting argument, at least in theory. However, the actual breakdown is more like this: Console X has 2 great games, 5 good games, and 1 awful game. Console Y has 5 great games, 10 good games, and 35 awful games.

Now, if you are a discerning customer, and you would never by an awful game, it doesn't really matter if there are one million of them, all you care about is the number of good and great games, which X360 clearly has an advantage. If you were trying to defend the PS3, you might say that no one (or very few) will actually play all of the good and great games on any console, but the higher percentage of quality on the PS3 ensures that you are less likely to get a gift from your Uncle Wilber that is of low quality on the PS3. This is the part of the discussion where facts take a back seat to your personal situation.It is true that if you were a hypothetical person of unlimited time and means, who could play whatever you want for as long as you want, you would have a higher volume of good and great games on an X360. What I would suggest is that if you were sad person, the best move would actually be to ownboth consoles and play all of the great games.

regardless, there are enough good and great games on both systems sucxh that a hardcore gamer (which I have seen described several ways, but for now lets just say someone who buys more than 6 games a year and plays more than 10 hours a week) will be satisfied with either system. It really is a matter of personal preference.
