^^^ Thread title

Been playing Okami HD and honestly, the game its too big for its own sake. I'm currently on Dragon's Palace in around 22h of gameplay and after some google research I found out I still have around 15/20 more hours of gameplay to finish it. The game is beautifull and has very interesting characters/story and imaginative level design but its gameplay gets rather tedious after 2/3h... when a game doesnt have the gameplay to back it up a big lenght ends up hurting the experience. For me Okami is one of those examples.

TDLR: Big lenght is not always good on a game

Wich games you thought they dragged for too long even though you like them?

I'd rather have an amazing short game than a long boring one.

it never hurts it if it is a good game.

i can think of examples of crappy games getting paddded with bullshyt though.

for instance the wiiu zombie game where at the end for no reason they turn off all the fast travel and make you walk across the entire game that you just played in order to pad out the length.

Dragon Age Origins comes to mind.

Personally, I would take a 45 minute adrenaline rush over a 50 hour filler infested borefest any day of the week.

Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker

Love the game but the tri-force hunt is just unnecessary, tedious, and annoying. I feel like Nintendo just tried to pad out the game's length when it wasn't necessary since the game's length was good enough already.

Really cool question... I think it's a legit question.... While a ton of games don't come to mind, Dragon Age origins 75 hour long main quest was ridiculously needless... It brought the game from a 9 to an 8 for me. So bored by the end.

RAGE (it doesn't have huge length as such but it felt too long)

GTA IV

Skyrim (bunch of meaningless crap in that game)

Max Payne 3, felt a bit too long too. Some of the levels could have been left out. Guess it felt longer with all the obnoxious unskippable cutscenes

Skyrim, definitely!

If the game world was 2/3 smaller and more focused with interesting and unique locales, I would've enjoyed it much more. With its current length and the level of dungeon copy paste, the game starts to drag on after some 30 hours... by that time, all the dungeons, forts, etc, start to feel nearly identical.

Would've been much better if we had fewer dungeons, but each one having some interesting minor backstory, and a worthwhile piece of loot. Quality over quantity could do wonders for an TES game.

Reading the thread title Okami was the first game that immediately came to my mind I enjoyed it regardless but I defiantly felt it dragged on longer then it should have.

Do not agree, I really enjoyed that one all the way through. I also can't agree with anyone who says Skyrim. That's really not all that long unless you want it to be.

Most of the time I feel the same way about shooters. So many of them you do the same thing over and over again that even if the game is 6 hours long, it feels way too much. Shoot a wave of enemies...move up a little...shoot another wave of enemies. Move up a little...shoot yet another wave of enemies. Cutscence. REPEAT.

They added the Tri-Force fetch quest because they were running out of time and had to scrap two dungeons and a couple of islands to meet the deadline.

Biohazard 6. As a huge fan of the series, I figured it's length was a dream come true. Then I realized how much of it was borderline 'filler' in order to market four scenarios.

Pretty much every JRPG within the past few years. GTA games as well. They always start off good, then get lost in the middle, then slowly get better by the end.

True... but you play a game like Skyrim primarily to explore the world and check out the side quests... when they quickly become repetative, that's a major flaw, right there.

No matter how much of a quality title it is. I can end up getting fatigue if it's past 45 hours and I still haven't finished the main story. This happened to me with Xenoblade Chronicles where towards the end I just wanted to be done with the game 60 hours in, especially at the very end where I needed to grind my level 77 characters to level 80 but the only thing that gave me good exp due to the exp scaling was level 85 monsters. I finally finished at 70 hours. I remember I got a little bit of fatigue on Okami too. Both were amazing games that I gave 9.5's too.

I suppose that was mis-wording on my part. Length was fine. I just thought the last chapter felt filler to me. It's what I hate more than a lengthy game :P And thanks!

Recently Final Fantasty 13 comes to mind. Game just goes on and on before it even gets good. Takes too long to beat for its own good.

Red Dead Redemption's campaign also drags in a few places which make the game take ages to complete.

Grinding my way to level 80 in Guild Wars 2 got really frustrating and boring around level 60.

I tried Darkfall Unholy Wars but it was an incredible time sink for what you got out of it. Not worth it.

Usually a game is not longer than it needs to be and many end way too soon.

Hmm, I dsay GTA 4, Both Prototype games, Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning, AlanWake started to stumble at times, although it seems more like pacing problems, and not length. RDR, Both COndemned games seemed longer then their stories could bear.

Far Cry 2 likely takes the cake.

Edit: FC3 also seemed to drag in the end.

Elder Scrolls Daggerfall, the main quest isn't that long but the game world spans something over a thousand miles to explore, oblivion was only like 6-9 miles as i recall.
