Gonna have to say Tribes.. I couldn't find any good pics of it, but if you could see the terrain, you were able to see the enemy.
Kameo still impreses me till this day
These screens arent very good representations. Theres also Blue Dragon which i thought had good draw distance.
Majoras Mask, Wind Waker and Twilight Princess were all very good especially considering the hardware. The jump from the draw distance in OOT to MM was almost a generation leap.
S.T.A.L.K.E.R. games, ArmA II and the PC version of Fallout 3 come to mind. I hope Just Cause 2 will impress regarding draw distance, too. :)
Good call, I forgot about GTA4. :)GTA is quite good.

Also your sig reminded me of my #1 sandbox game on my list. :d

Eh, it was not too great on consoles. On PC, sure, depending on the settings.
This is System Wars, we must assume that every PC game is on max settings.I can't believe no one has mentioned the Uncharted series. Easily the best IMO.
I can't find a picture of chapter 2's city but look from the top of that building and you will be amazed! It's gorgeous!
Arma 2 has amazing draw distances, which are actually needed too be effective too...alextherussian
ArmA2 has the worst draw distances in the series... You have 10 km draw distance for terain but only something like 2 km for evreything else...
Going full speed with a ground attack aircraft, skimming over terrain and then not seeing anything till the last few seconds isnt much fun =(. Also it pissed me off that the AI had a detect distance of more then 2 km... So at times i'd get attacked by stuff that i couldnt see.
And the final nail in the coffin was that the grass draw distance was a joke... You couldnt hide as a sniper in anything cuz you might be hiding in grass, but you'r still completley exposed at any kind of real combat range.
ArmA 1 and OFP:CWC had way better draw distances.
Battlefield Bad Company 2 has probably one of the biggest draw distances on the consoles right now. Its practicaly infinate in the MP demo. Tho again, draw distance for characters is probably round 1- 1,5 km (pure guesstimation)
STALKER games have preaty nice draw distances too.
Tribes 1 had awsome draw distances for its day.
This imo this has the greatest draw distance. Two weeks it will be mine.:) Oh i have a slim btw i don't have any problems;)

I dare someone to count the number of ogres there are in that first pic. This is the best picture I could find, but I was always impressed by SMG's draw distances.

Thats just a skybox
Demon's Souls have a great draw distance, I hope I could play a similar game on PC :(
These pictures don't do the game justice, there is this view in the first level, the castle, where you get to see the gate & the castle from a great distance before fighting with the knight with the long sword(forgot the name). Awesome view! couldn't find a picture of it though.
"Draw distance is a computer graphics term, defined as the distance in a three dimensional scene that is still drawn by the rendering engine. Polygons that lie behind the draw distance won't be drawn to the screen.
[QUOTE="LookAnDrolL"]You people don't have a clue about what draw distance really means.... It doesn't matter if the game shows some sky box and 2d mountains in the background, the draw distance its about PLAYABLE TERRAIN Crysis and Far Cry 2 on PC excels at thisinertkNo it isn't.
Well actually he is right. Maybe not in a strict sense, but to show off draw distance you need to be in some point distant to the object, and in another point be really close to it. Other wise it could be some trick like sky box or small objects that only will be rendered in one exclusive or are actually low quality but to small to notice or some other trick. You almost always need a sandbox game or a game with an open world for this.
I think you just provided evidence for his argument. Those things you saw in that BF2 map are all considered "playable terrain". The reason is that they are not just 2D backgrounds. You can actually walk up there(and then get bombed or landmined), but those areas were crafted with the same details of the original map. In fact, a larger map of the same area in BF2 should include those landmarks visitable by you without a bomb dropped on you. In GTA4 if you see a tall building in the far distance, you can fly a chopper and crash it into that said building. In Uncharted 2 you cannot do that to most of the "backgrounds"."Draw distance is a computer graphics term, defined as the distance in a three dimensional scene that is still drawn by the rendering engine. That was fixed in one of the beta patches.
[60522] Improved: Longer view distance for objects when high view distance is used.
You can now see objects as far as the view distance is set. But the VD in these games is not in one direction, it's a circle with the player in the middle and you will be able to see about 5km in each direction with the VD set to 10km.

I know what you're talking about! It's amazing.

You seem to have missed my point though, draw distance is related to whether or not the assets are being drawn -- not if you can touch them or not. In the 50% screen, the crane is still there, it just doesn't fall within that draw distance. UC2 + Halo 3 for example, the two console games that come to mind with long draw distances. The 3D assets are still being drawn, to a specific distance irrespective of whether or not you interact with them. Simple yes and no question, is that not what draw distance is? In a nutshell, to what distance is still being rendered. Another thread can always be made, "Games with the best draw distance, you can ACTUALLY interact with" since the distinction is being made here regardless of the actual definition."Draw distance is a computer graphics term, defined as the distance in a three dimensional scene that is still drawn by the rendering engine. Polygons that lie behind the draw distance won't be drawn to the screen.
