Sounds like Nintendo was more or less rushed to make this announcement after the fact they were making a new console got out. My guess is the controller was farther along than the actual console so they showcased it instead. Nintendo seems to be making a real bid for the third party again, and the fact this isn't coming out for probably at least a year and a half gives them plenty of time to announce specs that could be on par with Sony and Microsoft's next gen. The 360 dropped a full year ahead of the PS3 and it's kept up just fine in terms of power.

Lol why is there so much hate? Goodness the thing doesn't come out until next year after E3. Give it some time. They showed some games coming and it looks like the WiiU will get good 3rd party support. All you needed to do was to listen to the excitement in John Riccitiello's voice to get an idea that Nintendo is finally turning the corner. Heck listen to other devs in the video like Levine. Sure I wish they showed some hard specs but I'm more than pleased at what I saw from Nintendo today.

If you think about it, Sony and MS are trying to extend the life of their platforms for like another 3-4 years. Nintendo could show even the next console by then.

So it's the equivalent of a current gen console with an iPad peripheral?

Wii U is scheduled to be released sometime between April 1 and December 31, 2012.

The controller might not cost as much as people think. You can get an Android tablet for less than 100 bucks. Take off Android and you've cut off a major cost of the tablet. Nintendo will probably be selling each controller for about 60-80 bucks a piece. AND THIS WILL BE MY FIRST DAY 1 CONSOLE BUY!
