What MS must do to win next gen:
1- Create public perception that Xbox 3 the platform for COD through marketing.
2- Push Kinect and Xbox 3 to moms as the cool choice for family gaming through marketing.
3- Generate more profit from XBL through microtransactions and increased fees.
4- Push Halo, Gears, and Forza every other year to sell hardware to core gamers, and stack up XBL memberships.
Get ready to "Jump In", as Lucifer might put it.

[QUOTE="DNAbro"][QUOTE="Nonstop-Madness"]recapture 3rd party support? when did they lose it? it obviously doesn't carry on into the next gen, if so, the PS3 should have had amazing 3rd party support at the beginning of the generation. I doubt 3rd party developers will even develop many exclusives next gen but the 360 will need them. Yeah, that's one area where Microsoft relies heavily on. It's the demise of first party titles that I'm interested in.I think they really need to work out some deals with some good developers and secure some exclusive IPs, and not none of that senseless timed DLC. Their partnership with Crytek on a exclusive IP was interesting, but the Kinect portion worries me. It would be nice to be able to turn that feature off, in case you wanted to play it with a standard controller. I think they need to break out their wallet and make one of these big name franchises exclusive to their platform. I know it will probably never happen, but a game series like Battlefield, or Call of Duty would be huge for either Sony, or Microsoft, if it was exclusive. I think that would never happen though because of the revenue those companies get off of multiplatform sales.Nonstop-Madness
- Recapture 3rd Party Support
- Progress XBL
- Kinect 2.0
- A few more 1st Party Games
- Competitive pricing
Who's opinion is really more valid? someone who bought xbox in 2001 and xbox360 in 2005.
Or someone who just bought their first xbox last year.
So it's stable, even though in beta?
Since I like KDE would you say I should stick with Mint 12 (possibly update Kernel etc) or would it be sensible to grab Ubuntu 12.04 with KDE 4.8?
Edit: And sorry about the OT, Linux is quite the jungle and I'm sick having the added barrier of VMware in my way of compiling Android ;)
MlauTheDaft
12.04 isn't in beta anymore, there's an official release now :P.
I'm not entirely sure as I have no experience with Mint, though I think you'd be fine with either.
they won't win.
the wiiu will be cheap and parents feel like they know what they will be getting for their kids.

how dare they make a product for something i own that i personally don't care about but which other people with children do care about because it makes the product child friendly.

IMO they will have a small handful of real exclusives, buy timed exclusives, and then have a crap load of kinect junk.
Not interested.
It's interesting because Sony lost 70 percent of their fanbase due to stupidity and 599 dollars. lmao.
Not trying to say MS will mess up like that, but they got the fanbase easily so they could lose it. Food for thought.
but i think MS is safe next gen. Especialy here in AMURICA

Holy s***, I'm really tired of vapid morons like you not understanding why long time gamers are upset that devs are focusing on making fisher-price friendly games instead of traditional games. Enjoy your ****ing Cooking Mama Cook Off and Kinectimals, and say good bye to titles like Metal Gear Solid (1-4), Crysis, Dragon Age, KotOR, Baldur's Gate (1-2), Halo, Golden Eye, Perfect Dark, God of War (1-3), Gears of War (1-3), Doom (1-3), Diablo (1-3), and literally almost every other ****ing classic title that has come out that isn't Nintendo or Rare.
You and the other idiots who attacked me don't get it--casualization and kiddie gaming (Kinect, Wii) is the death of adult oriented gaming. Look at the sales of games like Madworld and No More Heroes--they sucked compared to the avalanche of child friendly gaming.
Are you guys really this stupid?
I'm going to respond to your points:
- Get rid of Kinect and go hardcore.Impossible. MS invested more than 500 Million on Kinect.
- Make more decent 1st party games and cut the Kinect crap.Again, not gonna happen
- Get rid of DVD drive and use Blu-ray.This I agree with
- Get rid of that ridiculously huge power supply brick, and build it inside the console like the PS3. That would increase the size of the console and the production costs.
- Build the Wi-Fi in the console. This is a no brainer. MS did this with the 360 to syphin extra cash from consumers.
- Use decent hardware like the PS3. This is irrelevant. It wasn't the hardware that caused the RROD, it was mistakes in putting the console together.
- Change the controller. Not quite sure what you mean.
- Cut that battery bollocks off the controller and build rechargeable ones inside like DS3.Again, MS wants to make extra money. Selling overpriced accessories will never go away.
- Make Xbox Live free. Not a chance. Xbox Live is making so much money.
- Change the dashboard back to blades and make it HD.Umm...
- Stop the ridiculous timed-exclusives and DLC.Once again, It's a business decsision that will not go away anytime soon.

they need games
cos 360 has no games

M$ would pretty much have to do all those things for me to even consider thinking about getting the next Xbox. Ive been really disappointed with the 360. Worst part is the UI gets progressively worse and now we have ads all over the freaking place.
I'll add to your list
- Get rid of Kinect and go hardcore.

I honestly don't see adult oriented gaming dying anytime soon. I don't think most of these companies are really going to invest more than 30-40% of their assets on motion gaming. The Wii has been out a while, yet companies like EA, Activision, Epic,Ubisoft, etc., are still making the core games that most of us care about.Microsoft has shifted a lot of it's focus on Kinect, however I doubt they'll way primarily on that to maintain it's product. Well, I'm no Michael Pachter, so I won't predict that they won't, I just doubt it.[QUOTE="GamerwillzPS"][QUOTE="charizard1605"] I think you're ridiculous if you were being serious. dotWithShoes
Man, just look at the gaming industry. Look at the Kinect sales. Look at the Wii sales. This world is screwed. Yes, I'm serious and it's a fact that people are fvcking retarded. They literally ruined PlayStation.
You do realize that "Casual" is what built the Playstations install base so high? well, that and faulty hardware in the ps1 & ps2 days.No it wasn't, they simply built on what Sega had started with portaying Nintendo as the 'Kiddy' choice and themselves as the 'Adult' and 'Mature' one.

I know, I remember the PS1 seeming like the more "adult" oriented console when it released. The president of the company even said that they were gearing towards that market, or the more mature titles, catering to the "hardcore" crowd. I remember a lot of games that were on the PS1 or PS2 that weren't available on the N64, or Gamecube. The GTA series comes to mind. Don't get no more mature then that, at least for that day and age. As far as shoddy hardware, my PS1 , and PS2 still work. No problems here.I honestly don't see adult oriented gaming dying anytime soon. Perhaps, but look at the vast majority of the 360 exclusives lately--they're almost all Kinect oriented. I can only speculate that the reason that we don't see this on the PS3 is that the Move was a massive failure.
The PC will still live on, at least, but console gaming seems like it may be KO'd if it keeps going in this direction. We'll see with the next round, I guess.
MS should release again a console with a huge failure rate so they end up selling more units to like what happened this gen..

I can agree with you there, as far as if they continue to focus more on Kinect and less on original IPs, or the "hardcore" market, they may lose a lot of business. I don't really know what determines "hardcore", "core", or "casual" gamers , but it seems like Microsoft was more successful in bringing in the "core" and "hardcore" market to their console. I think they should cater to what got them there. If I had to play just Kinect games, or just motion games in general, I would probably lose interest in gaming.Yeah, that's what happened. It wasn't due to their awesome game library, excellent online service, or lower pricepoint. :)MS should release again a console with a huge failure rate so they end up selling more units to like what happened this gen..

I can't tell you what MS needs to do to win next gen, but as someone that owns a 360 I can tell you what they need to get me to buy another system.
Reliable hardware: While I haven't had any problems with my 360 yet, I know that it is quite possible. As a result, I tend to limit my playing to only a handful of exclusive games.
Exclusives: I know that these are going the way of the dinosaur, but if I'm going to buy multiple systems, I need a reason. 360 started good for me with Kameo, Fable, DOA, and the promise of BK, then things kind of dried up.
Built in Wifi: This is probably a given since the newer 360 have it, but the lack of it is a big reason why I've never thought about going online with the 360. I'm not paying $100 for the adapter, and I'm not running a cable, so any XBL games I may be interested in become PSN buys instead.
Storage: The fact that I have a 20GB 360 is also one of the reasons I don't buy to many games for it. I don't stream movies, download music, or store much on my harddrive but game gaves, yet my 80GB PS3 already needs to be cleaned out periodically because I play a lot of games.
Online: I don't play games online very much. In fact, it's I can probably count on one hand the number of times I do. However, I like having the ability to do so if a game sparks my interest.
Come to market first: We all know that this was a big advantage to MS this gen, and to be quite honest, I feel they need that advantage again. Even if they fix everything else on my list (mainly reliability, storage, online) if the Playstation is out first, I'll most likey buy it instead.
It almost seems like a given that Microsoft will release it's system first, and beat Sony to the market. It just seems like the more likely outcome. Sony wouldn't wanna release its platform now, especially since the PS3 is picking up steam, and has a viable storage format. Microsoft's system is a little more aged, as far as no Wifi or bluray. I suspect Microsoft will come out first, probably late 2013-early 2014, while Sony's next console will arrive in late 2014, or early 2015. Either way I'm fine until then.My only real gripe with Microsoft right now is their decrease in exclusives, or new IPs, and they seem to lack the intesity they had in the first 2-3 years.I can't tell you what MS needs to do to win next gen, but as someone that owns a 360 I can tell you what they need to get me to buy another system.

Oh wow, you went straight to the "ur a kid" card. Very compelling. Or, you could take the more honest approach and say "Wow, I don't have an argument, so I'm just going to call you a kid."
It has nothing to do with being self-absorbed and it has everything to do with the industry is completely going in a direction which alienates a lot of gamers because the market is simply bigger. But I guess seeing a hobby I like slowly dying due to the mainstreaming just makes me self-absorbed. Enjoy your Kinectimals.
You may not like it, but answer the following:
Who are the ones who buys home gaming consoles & handheld gaming devices most of the time? Casuals. Without them, neither the DS or PS2 would've made even near 150 million PS2's & DS's sold.
Who are the ones that bring companies like Nintendo & Microsoft serious money? Casuals.

If you're implying that the same crowd which has sold the Wii and Kinect are the same crowd which made the PS2 a success, you are flat out wrong. One only needs to take two ****ing seconds to look at the games of either that sold to figure that out.
EDIT:
And wtf DS? Since when are we talking handhelds here? No s**** handhelds are marketed to younger gamers.
Microsoft needs to understand the casual market is very fickle. Banking on them is a real risk, nintendo had good results but now they have a sharp decline in sales (and no it's not because of the wii U, these same casuals don't know anything about this). They need to start catering to both sets of bases incase the casuals get fed up of the gimmick.

There are just as many Sony core franchises from the PS1 and PS2 era people got bored with and so they stopped making them, forcing Sony to create multiple new IPs this gen.
It's the same with hardware gimmicks, new appealing features have to constantly be created to excite the market. That's why Nintendo has a new controller now, and 3DS has stereo 3D.
