I stopped buying games from there. There is this guy in my local mall who has a stand set up and all games are new and are at least $10 cheaper than the prices in every other store. I found MGS4 there for $40 CDN!

Seriously the internet is the place to go for buying games, you can save so much.
I don't buy new games so it doesn't effect me. In my area there are so many gamers, any time a new game comes out, there is a used copy on the shelf within a couple days.
I rent games from Gamestop all the time because of their 7 day no questions asked return policy. The guys working at the store must hate my guts because I'll buy a game (RE5 was the latest one), beat it in a week, and return it. Sometimes the game just sucks and I return it the next day. The only game I have bought and kept since Xmas has been SF4. Everything else wasn't good or deep enough to bother keeping.
Yea, i experienced this first hand the other day when i went to buy Dark Sector, the used one is $8.99, and the new one is $9.99. They didnt have anymore used, so i asked for the new one, when he gave it to me, it was a re-packaged game. The thing is, when they sell you a USED game, you can return it within a certain amount of time and get a full refund if you dont like the game, however if it is a NEW game, you can only trade it in if it is opened, so by selling used games as new, they prevent refunds, its a double scam :P This is one of the reasons that they should restructure the used, and rented game business, and give the developers (not publishers) a cut of every game sold used or rented
/end rant:x
I shop at Amazon a lot for games, the only reason why I sometimes go to Gamestop is because of the pre order bonuses
I agree, but that way its already opened so you cant return it :P Its wrong, but you gotta give the executives some credit for finding loopholes :P They should be jailed because none of that money goes to the devs :(I don't like the fact that they open most of there new games, to me thats a used game now.

Exactly! Just order games new from Amazon or any other trustworthy website that sells games!
Mm hmm. When I was looking for Race Pro (and no other retailer within a reasonable driving distance had it) I was forced to buy my copy from GameStop. When I approached the register and asked them for a new copy, they asked me if I wanted one of the already opened display copies. I laughed and then told them I wanted a sealed copy. I would say I can't believe they offered me that, but as an employee, I was forced to offer customers those damn "new" display copies as well. It's why I no longer shop there. I hate having to explain to someone the difference between new and used. But they only get away with it if you let them.

Why not just order it? That way you save time and perhaps even a bit of money. You won't be forced to buy from GameStop either.
The EBGames around my area isn't bad, they're usually pretty knowledgable, and when I buy new games, they are sealed properly. I don't mind them really.

same here but people like to complain. People always say that the employes always ask you about the edge card but ive only been asked when i trade in lots of games.

I was very impatient. :P
EDIT: Don't be fooled. I didn't walk out of there with an opened copy. Mine was sealed from the manufacturer when I bought it.
It's a story I've shared several times here but here goes again. Several years back I bought Astro Boy for the GBA, when I took the box to the counter the store manager opened the case and got out the game from a cabinet and proceded to put it into the case. I stopped him and said I only want it if it's new and not been played, he at that point assured me it was brand new and never played. So anyway, I buy the game and take it home, pop it into my gba and fire it up. There's a save game on the cart with the initials MAB if I remember correctly (it's a complete save game as well..as in. solved 100%). So anyway, a couple days later I go back in the store and the manager is there again and ask if there's an employee with the initials MAB, he says "that's me, what can I do for you?". I ask him how hard he thought the end boss was in Astro Boy, he just kind of looked at me for a moment and then went into how much he liked the game. I then pointed out the converstion we had had only a few days before about if the game had been played or not, and the fact that I had specifally said I wouldn't buy it if it had been played.
He then went into a tailspin about how that's not "playing" the game as it's employees doing it. The game to him still had never been played and was completely new.
OK..right....
I didn't return the game as it was fine and I got it because I wanted it... but man, you have to admit that's some pretty screwed up thinking if he was being for real. I told him that I knew he wasn't being honest and that I had suspected before I ever even purchased the game that it had indeed been played as I had worked at a gamestore when I was younger and knew how it "really" worked. Anyway, I never shopped there again.

Exactly. Sometimes they can be expensive, but in my area it's pretty much either Futureshop, Bestbuy or EBGames, and they all charge a lot.
I've only been asked about the Edge card twice in 4 years.
What's this crap about making you buy and Edge Card if you didn't reserve or get on launch day? Listen, I have problems with Gamestop as well, but that's bull. Maybe a few stores do it, but I've never had that problem at any of the Gamestop's I visit. And yes, I shop there. Why? It's the only place besides Wal-Mart where I live...and Wal-Mart always takes forever to get in new releases.

Assuming you don't already have an Edge card, if you aren't asked about the Edge card every time you shop there, the employees really aren't doing their jobs.[QUOTE="Zeppy007"][QUOTE="lundy86_4"]

Assuming you don't already have an Edge card, if you aren't asked about the Edge card every time you shop there, the employees really aren't doing their jobs.Hey, if they don't want to do their jobs, it's less hassle for us. So who are we to complain :P
For the trade in credit, it's the customer's final say whether to trade the games in or not. It's not like we can't cancel the transaction or take the game off the list.
For the hassle, some people just want to take the quick way out and get something towards a new game.
As for renting the games, I do it all the time at my GameStop, and yes, my manager just throws them into the new case again. Didn't think anything of it until now. Am I still going to do it? Yes, of course I am until they allow me to stop; why not do something that I've been allowed to do for 8 months? If we're forced to stop, I'll stop. Besides, I take emaculate (sp?) care of my games. The disc is either in the case or in the disc drive, and the case is either on top of my TV stand or in my game-rack-stand thingy.
And for those complaining that you recieved an open copy, chances are it was the display copy. If there were finger-prints on the disc, then it's your own damn fault. How about asking to see the disc before you purchase it? You can tell if it's been used or not by looking at it (hint: there's a fine, almost watery looking layer on the back of discs that have not been used). If the employee refuses to show a game's condition to you, you have every right to cancel the purchase and file a complaint.
The only one who doesn't allow you to have a good experience at GameStop is you. Be smart. Ask questions, be patient (yes, we are hassled about Edge Cards, GPG's and Reservations), and know that you as the customer have every right to know about your purchase before you go through with it.
That's why I never go there anymore. I always thought Gamestop was really shoddy.

Agreed. As for my take on Gamestop, I won't go into it, but this person sums it all up in five parts (final part coming soon):
Part 1.
Part 2.
Part 3.
Part 4.
Part 5.
I for one, happen to agree with all of his accounts. If I wanted to shop/reserve games, I would go for either Amazon, Wal-Mart, or Best Buy.

Very true, as proven by this:
Bioshock (PS3) at Game.co.uk
£24.99 - New
£22.99 - Preowned
Bioshock (PS3) at Amazon.co.uk
£19.49 - New
Bioshock (PS3) at Play.com
£17.99 - New

Seems like I was wise never to buy used or "new" games from places such as GameStop.
[QUOTE="kidonre"]My freind was to stupid to realize gthat the used game he bought... could be bought at target across the street brand new for just $5 more The used game he bought from GS had: no instruction, no case, lots of scratches, and cum stains on the back.DarkGamer007
That is your friend's problem. Anyone whoreceiveda case/game in such condition would look for a different one or buy a new copy. Also just ask for a sealed copy of the game at the counter.
It is his problem, but the thing that caused this problem, in this case GameStop, deserves blame for the situation. I don't know why you are blindly defending them. It's why I no longer shop there. I hate having to explain to someone the difference between new and used. But they only get away with it if you let them.

he speaks the truth. i always ask for an "acutal" new copy if they hand me an already opened one.
Yeah I don't shop at Gamestop anymore, once I called a specific shop one day asking if a certain game was in stock and the clerk said it was, I drove across state lines and when I got there they said it was not in stock and had not been in stock for a long time.
They are also box cutter crazy as two games I got there had a big ole slash down the box, the final straw was the freaking collectors edition FFXII with a slash down the back and they wouldn't let me return it. I despise Gamestop.
I just bought Valkria Chronicles for the ps3 last night as "new" (29.99 btw today is last day) but it was a "gutted" copy. I wasnt happy about that but it was the last one they had left and it was too good of a deal to pass up. I usually only get games from Gamespot the day they come out or maybe reserved so I know I get an unopened new game.
There is a reserve fee. Why do people think they are getting a deal at that place? I won't buy anything used if it's more than half the price.LOXO7No there isn't. Just a minimum deposit. The money you put in goes against the price of the game.
The worry is of hidden flaws in the disc caused by its recent use that render it unusable. And DS game cards carry their saves with them, so played games aren't pristine and may even create a spoil effect. Can't you tell if a game is brand new or not? It's not like they can repackage it with the plastic and everything, and if it works and there's a still a manual then I don't really care.
SOedipus
I saw a video on youtube explaining how do they market used games as new ones. But i dont get it,if you guys have found any content of the game missing, for less hastle why cant you just go back to the gamestop and tell them to give you a new one or else you`ill sue them ??
