Can't you tell if a game is brand new or not? It's not like they can repackage it with the plastic and everything, and if it works and there's a still a manual then I don't really care.

Actually, some can reseal. Some stores have spare seam seals and even wrapping machines.

I work at gamestop and we are allowed to take a loan of new games, but we make sure that they are the last of the new games sold and we explain to the customer buying it that it has already been played. Most customers are ok with it.

And TC, you can go **** yourself. You don't realise how many of us would lose our jobs because we sell 1 out of 100 games as new. Think about how many people who would run into debt during a rescession.

Plus if we did get closed down half of you would be winging of how you can't get games at discount prices.

robobie
If you make it clear to your customers and they still want to purchase, than obviously its their fault. You guys are not to be blamed. But if that is the case.

Indeed. I may not shop there often, but I do keep my eyes open. Just a few days ago, I got my hands on Namco Museum for the 360--$15 for a bunch of the classics I used to play a a kid plus a few nifty Arcade remakes.

That was uncalled for. Now I have reason to be paranoid. :(

We need to do that so we can have display models of the games. It stops us being bothered by pesky little kids like yourself TC while we are trying to work

How do laminates help when you need actual discs for the demo units (you know, those walk-up PS3s and 360s you see at the front of just about every GS)?

I stopped buying games from there. There is this guy in my local mall who has a stand set up and all games are new and are at least $10 cheaper than the prices in every other store. I found MGS4 there for $40 CDN!

They have done that with me. I asked to buy a game (Grim Grimoire for PS2), they said they only had the new one, and I agreed to get the game. Lo and Behold, they pulled the case of the game from the shelf with had a "NEW" sticker on it, took the game out of a sleeve and sold it to me for the price of a new game. I complained but it got no where, so I just bought the game. They have done this with Odin Sphere too, every other time I said "I might as well buy the game still in a wrapper for full price".

Then gamestop buys one copy of the game, and sells it used later. That is how it's done.

I am a victim. I bought GBA game 7 years ago. I asked for F-Zero and they had one copy left. The cartridge was out of the box. They guy went to the back of the store to grab the game. He comes back and I see him put the cartridge inside the box.

I stoped him there and said, "Wait a minute I asked for it new."

He replied, "Sir, this is new".

"What? the game is out of the box, how do I know no one played the game in the back room? You should at least try to sell it to me as an used game"

"Sir, I guarantee this game has not been used."

I gave up arguing with the guy, I just wanted to play the game already, so I bought the game as new. When I got back home, I started to play the game and guess what!! There was a save file in the game. I was infuriated!!! I was not only mad at Gamestop but I was also mad at myself. That's what I get for trusting people. Ugh!!! Never again!!!

I have no problems with my Gamestop. I buy and trade games with them sometimes and it saves me alot of money with my edge card. The only thing i dont like about it is the fact the Dervs dont see as much money as they should due to the buy and trade. But thats the way it is unless they some how outlaw buying and selling used games. The things you listed TC i have never seen or had any of those problems with Gamestop.

Which they probably won't be able to do since used game sales goes fundamentally to First Sale Doctrine--part of the 1978 Copyright Act. Barring a new Copyright Act that nullifies anything before it, I don't see that happening.

At gamestop we can't keep all the games in their cases because we simply don't have enough room for all of the cases. So instead we put them in plastic cases were they are not damaged.

And that game was probably staff loaned to someone. But since then gamestop policy has changed. We are not allowed to borrow new ds games because it leaves a saved file on the game and not the system.

You should have reported that particular gamestop branch to head office.

We have to leave the games in those sleeves because we can't keep every individual case in some backroom because there are too many games out and we don't have enough space.

And since it was the last copy, that probably means that the case was used as a display model for out on the shelfs. It doesn't mean that somebody played it.

Even though I work at gamestop, I have to agree. They do give better store credit and they sell games for cheaper. If I ever have someone who is unhappy with the credit or cash they are being offered, I tell them to try extra vision because they will most likely get a better price for it there

Do not, and I do mean a big DO NOT..purchase a new game if it isn't sealed. Just go to your local walmart or bestbuy and buy the game if you're looking for a new copy....its as simple as that.

1. Last copy.
2. No one else has a copy (including Walmart or whatever).
So it's basically the display copy or NO copy.

Why are people so surprised, this has been going on for years. When I was back in college I worked at a local GS so I could do free "renting" and get a discount.

Oh and just b/c it's open doesn't mean it's played. They have to gut the products b/c people steal, so if you get a gutted copy don't assume it's played... and if you wanna blame someone in that case blame the people that steal stuff.

Yeah, I bought Call of Duty 2 there, and the disk was unreadable to my 360, yet had no scratches or fingerprints whatsoever. So I gave it back for a different one, and that worked, proving it wasn't my console.

well if theres no other copy in the region you live then you cant complain about it being a display. i mean i have 3 walmart and 3 malls within a 10 min drive. theres bound to be a copy of a game thats sealed. i mean even if you dont have that many places around you you can order it online or something

I just dont like how they sell NEW games OPENED. They take the disc and everything out and just leave the box for display. Sure it might not have been played and just in storage but that's not the point. I bought Counter Strike Source from them a year back but they took the cd/cd key out to prevent people from ripping the box open and taking the key. BUT all it takes is a jerk of an employee to write down the key and activate it on steam leaving that copy of the game I bought useless.

Thankfully this wasn't my case but you get the idea :P

If something is labeled "NEW" dont freakin OPEN the game and put the disc/manual/key in storage. Leave is sealed and improve security.

Don't GameStops feature Sensormatics? All those boxes should have magnetic security devices, and all bags are supposed to be checked at the entrance, so anyone trying to steal will set off the alarm. With a scenario like that, why gut the boxes?

I knew that they did that. My friend who worked there said never to buy a game that wasn't sealed.
