No....it hasn't. Last gen games were mostly singleplayer, this gen online functionality took over and now games such as Gears of War 3, MW3, Uncharted 3, R&C, Mass Effect 3 all have multiplayer. This gen gaming expanded greatly and became more mainstream, it's way more popular that it used to be and is no longer viewed as a "kids only" hobby.
Many games are all about flashy graphics and nothing else, but there have been just as many that have taken advantage of hardware capabilities to provide bigger worlds, more enemies on screen, and various other things that have a hugely positive impact on gameplay.
If you're wanting to see innovative games you often need to look to the PC these days. Mount&Blade, Minecraft, Crysis, S.T.A.L.K.E.R. and many others provide experiences that would not have been feasible without increasingly better hardware. Ten years ago you couldn't have imagined that such games would exist--and ten years from now you'll be playing games that are a leap beyond your current expectations of what is possible.
meh, I dont even know what to say... in ways youre right and in others youre wrong. I would say that gaming has evolved more than it ever has before this generation and not by motion controls but by online services and access to the downloadable game. community evolved gaming etc... As far as gaming design, yeah Sometimes I play a game and think, why wouldnt the dev take advantage of a different presentation or different set of gameplay devices to separate itself from the pack... though with budgets as high as they are, devs are going to take les chances.
Gaming hasnt changed since last gen, only graphics. Name one genre thats seen an evolution? Besides graphically. Firstinstimct
the wii (controller) was an evolution.
Also many games have changed and evolved since last gen, specifically FPS and TPS games. Also Racing game's have evolved on a physics level aswell. For one to say theres no advancement except graphics is either a bit dim or started gaming this gen.

As for this gen... im "Screaming" 2 years now that more than 5-6 years each gen is enough and that we are on a serious peak which making games feel one of the same despite if very few making the difference as far as gameplay/fun factor goes....but 8 years or more? This is a step backwards... specially for PC gaming.

Sorry but a controller does not revolutionize the gameplay elements of a game. For example , i really doubt that anyone would had less excitement and fun playing SMG2 with a traditional controller. Nor scores would have been lower than 10s. What im looking for is ingame gameplay evolutions not fancy pads / wii-motes or kinects. It would be nice if you offered some support for such a bold statement.
No, gaming hasn't hit it's peak, not when wonderful games continue ti be release, and some companies are trying news things and incorporating new inputs.
I wouldn't mind if consoles implemented more intuitive user-created content. Halo Reach and Forge mode was a good starting point, but next gen needs to take this to the next level. Part of the reason I don't care for DLC, and that people will buy it without question(MW), is that since so much money is involved companies might not feel the need to do this. Why let players create stuff when they can put out hack job dlc and charge for it, ya know?
I'm not sure about that. I couldn't care less either way, though. I'm entertained by the games I buy, and that's why I play them.
I don't think so. The only reason is that devs complain about technical limitations all the time. If great 1080p graphics at 60FPS with AA became standard next gen recourses spent optimizing could be spent on polish, AI, and style. I think the biggest problem with this gen is everyone trying to make a graphics king. Rage, while filled with its own issues, I can appreciate for being 60FPS (which pretty much automatically prevented it from being graphics king).
The Indie genre.kris9031998exactly that. Indie gaming is more prevalent than ever before. I had more fun with games like Trine and Braid than the next Call of duty

SMG2 would of had to be significally changed to work with a Traditional controller. Same with Skyward Sword. Both games are changing they are different then they were last gen. SMG and SMG2 have evolved the Platformer and I would like to see what they do next to change it even more.

Dark Souls is just about a million times better than any WRPG i have played so far in gameplay, so at least one developer did something right
Witcher 2 was great too, though a step back in gameplay
Everything has become better. Story telling, chracters, pacing, gameplay. Games are a lot less bland than they used to be. Gaming is a slow evolution. Its very, very slow. Try a game now & ther go back & play a game from last gen. a Massive, massive difference
Just take any action & adventure game of last gen & then compare it to UC3.Massive difference
Take the best Batman game of last gen & compare it with Arkham city.
Take Read Dead revolver & compare it with Red Dead Redmption
Take Skyrim & compare it with Morrowind
Take Cod 1 & compare it with cod4
The comparisons are endless. Games are better in every way. The only exception being games seem less unique this day in age & every games seems to be a FPS game.I dont remember any game offering what ive seen with games like Bioshock, Bioshock Infinite, far cry 3, Tomb raider reboot, Uncharted 3, & so much more
The only thing that looks the same as last gen is animation. Games like UC have the best animation ever seen in a game & they continue to evolve their animation while everybody else stays the same. How about next gen we forget graphics & focus on animation

I don't think the controlling scheme is revolutionary either. It is for the companies. It's something different they can sell. It hasn't improved gaming. It just made it bigger, which is an improvement for the companies because of more sales, but not for us. Graphics change and people are content with that. It's enough. I can't wait until that is not enough. Then we might go somewhere. :DGame play, story, graphics. Only one of those has changed from last gen. Sure there are different worlds, different stories because of these worlds, but it's the same formula. Play through each level with one outcome. This is okay with books and movies because they can't change from start to finish. They will never have the same replay as games do. But this is the importance of the gamer. Do we want games to have the same re-playability as movies? Yep. It's good enough says this gen.Everything has become better. Story telling, chracters, pacing, gameplay. To Sum Up What This Gen Brought:
Good:
Bad:
I might be missing a few. So as we can see there are good things and there are bad things. Overall the net positive change is probably close to zero though.
I'm thankful for this gen because:
Things I'm ungrateful for this gen:
