Anyway heres a Fenix comparison I tried to do, its not the best but I have only a limited amount of content to work with.

That doesn't look like very high settings on the right... or the jpeg format busted the picture.

Thats a direct feed from the Xbox 360 version so there are not settings, and the picture is pretty clear, even the text is pretty crisp so its not distorted too much. I did say its not the best comparison due to lighting may not be the same and stuff like that, but grabbed the best photo I could for both games with the content available.

Being completly serious, Gears 2 looks a lot like Gears 1, almost identical in some cases. I don't see why people think its such a bad thing. UT3 on PS3 doesn't look much better than Gears 1 and using the same engine Gears 2 is. What did people really expect?

No actually it does, 2d models vs 3d models. Then once you take in the bump-mapping, self-shadowing, and detail on those chains that adds for a much more detailed and impressive character model. Showing a lot of improvements of the previous one. They didn't just change the model, they fully enhanced it.

When people say it looks like the 1st, they're just going by quick surface impressions. This is a sequel, so it's taking the same art direction - what was branded as "Destroyed Beauty". Of course the colors are still bland. It's still taking place in the same war ravaged world, where everything is scorched and corroded from intense weapons scarring. What did they expect? We'd be seeing things on a tropical island now with rainbow patterned birds and singing mermaids? This war engulfed the entire planet in the story setting.

But now, with the improved lighting and character modelling, we're seeing this destroyed beauty in much more detail and clarity than ever before. And we still haven't seen the soft body or new water physics put into play yet. This is improved graphical rendering overlayed onto the art sty|e this franchise is established for.

Just what do people not get about this? :|

Gears 1 is still the best looking game on any platform, with the exception of Crysis. Saying that the game is dated because a year after the first game came out, the 2nd one doesn't look like its running on a NASA supercomputer is just being trollish.

Gears scored high because it was a well-rounded game AND it looks spectacular. If Gears 2 looked like a Gears 1 expansion pack, I'd still be more than pleased because it was THAT GOOD.

I think people have lost the view on what gaming is actually about. Its not about how good the graphics are its about the gameplay. Gears Of War is a very fun game that looks awesome, I could careless if it looks any better then the first one as long as the gameplay is upgraded and some of the glitches are took out and a new story with new characters and levels and weapons I'll be fine. When it comes to comparing games before they are out its all about the visuals since thats the only thing we can truely comment on. I'm way more excited about the gameplay than I am the graphical upgrade.

That's a big improvement, the new fenix model is clearly more detailed and cleaner...

Why are people trying to put this game down? and to people that say the gameplay ain't evolving, what do you want them to do, change the game completely? the cover gameplay in the first one is what made the game for me....

People think that in sequels you need to have completely different gameplay. But the majority of us know that you don't change whats not broke. Especially for sequels.

Last time you did do comparisons I was there with you and they both had there up and down Screenshots it's very weird how close they look together. When you look at them side by side some character models on gears looked better in some screens as some in Kill zone 2 looked better in some screens.

I will be honest, when I saw Gears 2 I was disappointed. But then again, can you honestly expect a huge graphic difference between the two? I suppose I took the term "nutso" to seriously, since everyone has their own opinion.

I am really not satisfied with how gears 2 looks.I have gears on the PC and i run it maxed out on an HD resolution and it looks great. I just wanted to get that out of the way first, gears still looks great and always will, all i'm saying is that the graphics are no longer a high point. Before i saw the gameplay footage, i saw the upgrades to the UE3 engine and i thought they would serve well in making it look up to date. Like that new shading technique looked like the improvement it needed. I wasn't very happy when i saw that it either had no effect or wasn't actually implemented in the new game play footage. I noticed that the engine still renders the transitions from dark areas lighter areas terribly. When i saw the big truck leave the shadow of the mountain, the whole model suddenly became lighter and flushed looking. Also on the list is that while they have a lot of enemies on screen at once, this is purely for cinematic purposes, as you can't harm any of them. There still seemed to be the small amount of enemies to interact with, not that that's a bad thing. The physics and destructible environments look promising, but i really hope that the gameplay footage was running on an older build of the engine.velocity99
