Fanboys, i love the way they think. A flops sequal stands a chance at being nominated for GOTY but the previous GOTY sequal is going to do "nothing new" and be nothing special - what exactly makes a sequal to an average game so special?

Super Smash doesn't have a shot in hell. I'm not knocking the series, I just don't think any objective games publication is going to vote it in over GTA or MGS. It may be great but it's not exactly moving gaming forward in any meaningful way. GTA redefines an open-world environment and MGS redefines "an awe-inspiring synthesis of dramatic storytelling and entertaining gameplay" :lol:

If Spore lives up to expectations it will be game of the millennium. Starcraft II has a good shot, as any Blizzard game does. Those games have their work cut out for them though, Metal Gear sets the bar pretty high.

GTa 4 moved the genre backwardss it took stuff out of the game which was in gta san andreas, Saints row 1 moved the genre forward by letting you create your own player, gta 4 didn't, and just because MGs4 has a great story doesnt mean it moves the genre forward.

GeOW won GOTY because of the pretty average competition in comparison to 08's potential nominees. Gear of War 2 will have to do something extremely unique to have a chance against Spore, GTA4 and MGS4 - all masterpieces in their own way. GeOW's problem was poor story. GeOW2 will have to be a miracle to work on what was a terrible story in 1, and really, GeOW was so innovative in the gameplay and graphics department (apparantly, I frankly found both to be rubbish), that GeOW2 will have extreme difficulty in improving on it - and that is the criteria for GOTY winners, right?
