No dedicated servers? Err..so the biggest problem with the 360 version and they leave it in a year later on a system which pretty much has had them for 10 years. Well done epic you screw 360 owners over with missing half the story then screw PC owners over by not giving what should be standard.

maybe but that would mean that Gold is useless for this game besides achievements which I could care less about... It was my understanding Sliver only gives you access to Dedicated Servers. Time will tell..

They are, but you can't play ranked matches in Silver..I personally find it pointless. Its not like this ultra tacticle/technical game gameplay-wise so why even bother proving anything. I just had a thought, maybe their reason for non-dedicated servers is so they can dictate this silver/gold thing. AHHH the MSFT milkage extends to the PC! Well, its were it all started so no surprise there.

well if MS try to milk money trough pc gamers using a 1year old fps, the game just wont be a hit on the pc, no sane pc gamer would pay to play a third person shooter online.

... Dedicated Servers are better in general... It's so easy to find your favorite dedicated server... Also, who is to say that people aren't going to increase the max players? Who is to say people aren't going to make custom maps that are huge? Epic screwed up on this... Besides, Epic doesn't even have to host many,clans host their own dedicated servers. Websites host their own dedicated servers...

They couldn't even let us play ranked matches without charging us? Maybe they don't understand how many preferable online PC shooters there are, that are also free. Why pay to play Gears when I can play CS, UT, etc. for free?

battlefield has ranks based on achivements.kills, and suport actions, CS has a rank system based on Kill/Deaths ratio, TF shares the same rank as cs, and i think there are achivements for TS aswell. as a couple of other games that have those systems but i cant remember all of them now

I'm sure this is some idiotic limitation enforced by Microsoft, since it's on the Windows Live platform. There is absolutely no reason not to include dedicated server support.

I won't be picking it up until there's a dedicated server package distribution.

Of course. There's dedicated 1on1 servers out there for some games, simply because they offer much more consistent performance than listen servers, and they offer a persistent place to which players in an online game community can return.

Dedicated servers are better than listen servers in every conceivable way.

I have no idea, seems like their getting worse with the B/s. It seems like their trying to keep the PC as close nit as possibly since the computer and MSFT are synonymous together, they figure they could try and control it even more with this GFW. Its a bad idea only because PC gamers have been getting it free for forever..but it seems more like something they should do with console gamers. Which is to have basic online free-for-all FOR free and have ranked matches a paid service. Still sounds like milkage but its better than our current setup.

To be able to let people download custom maps without having to quit out of Gears of War, download the map, install the map, then load Gears of War back up again and look for the game room running that map. By the time you do that, that game could've already ended or have filled up with players. If you've ever played Supreme Commander, you'd know how annoying it can be to play custom maps.

Microsoft had to ask themselves the question, how do we make more profit off of PC games? Licensing fees were out of the question, so the next best option was charging for online. They couldn't go all the way, because no one would opt into their system, so they chose a pricing plan which is similar to Live, yet is partialy free like PC online. I suppose this intermediate step they've made isn't too terrible, but it certainly isn't desirable for PC gamers used to getting their online for free.

Look on the bright side though, not every PC game is published by Microsoft.:)

Yeah it's totally Epic's fault that Microsoft decided to charge people for content that was supposed to be free.

Unreal isn't published by Microsoft, and they always offer amazing online services.

Gears is published by Microsoft, and they have crappy online service.

Figure that one out. It's funny how lems are so unwilling to believe Microsoft is responsible for anything that goes wrong with the 360.

I guess the overheating is the soldering companies problem and not MS's.
