Getting an Xbox One for halo 2.... I feel guilty

I haven't posted on here in years but i still read everyone argue on here for feedback when a game I'm interested comes out.

So after a year of debating with myself over which console to pick up, I've decided to get the Xbox One.

Not for kinect, not for the cable tv integration, not because its exclusives look amazing (both consoles collections look weak), but for the one an only halo 2. Halo 2 was truly the greatest console FPS of all time. All the halo games that came out afterward don't compare . It was the first shooter on consoles that had me playing for keeps. I had always been into PC shooters before that game. I played counter strike, Day of Defeat, Unreal tournament, and a bunch of others daily. But Halo 2 was the one shooter that pulled me from the keyboard. Everything from the match making to customized game types, that game truly was revolutionary for console shooters.

Anyone here who played it in its prime will remember . Game types like power of tower, cat and mouse, zombies. ( which they later actually turned into a real game-type in halo 4). Things like butterfly jumping, super bouncing, BxR. Back in the day i had both an xbox and ps2. I probably had like 60 games for my PS2 and 8 for my xbox. But even though Ps2 had an amazing collection of single player games, it couldn't keep me going like halo 2 did.

Then we had the 360 vs ps3 days. Honestly both were almost identical. Everything became multiplat, the exclusives were far between. Xbox= gears, halo (none of them were as good as 2), forza. Ps3= uncharted, god of war, ratchet and clank. Almost everything else multiplat.

So here I am, many years later and i feel like the reasons to pick up either an Xbox One or a PS4 are very slim. Their seems to be even less exclusives than the last generation.

But then i saw the game play footage of the master chief collection, and that halo 2 footage, with its shiny beautiful makeover, my favorite map lockout with its snowy blue atmosphere. Ive decided to get the Xbox One because almost everything worth playing on consoles nowadays is multiplat anyway.

I feel guilty for buying a brand new system for a game that i played like 10 years ago, at the same time it makes me realize how far console gaming has fallen. I don't think it will ever be as diverse as the xbox, ps2, gamecube days.

So what do you guys think, is it ridiculous that a game 10 years old is the one to make me want to continue into this gen, anyone else feel the same?

I guess i was hoping for at least one amazing exclusive for either Xbox One or PS4 to pull me in. After a year of waiting... halo 2 was the deciding factor lol

I still remember going down to the EB Games (remember those?) and picking up my Special Edition Halo 2 with the silver metal case after school on launch day.

To this day, it has arguably the best FPS multiplayer I've ever played, and I've been gaming on PC for over 15 years.

I found halo 2 incredibly mediocre. It took the wide open environments of halo 1 and made it mostly a corridor shooter.

It seems like a poor decision to me, but if you want to play halo 2 that badly, go for it.

yeah my buddy had the legendary edition, that case was sexy lol I was so pissed when they shut down the halo 2 servers, I was like NOOOOOOO HOW DARE YOU

I like how they're merging the multiplayer of all the games into one single package. That way the population won't be segregated.

It'll easily go down as one of the best collections of games out there.

Personally getting it for Sunset overdrive, but I will be getting the Master Chief Collection as well.

There are ton of amazing games and a lot more to look forward to.

Halo 2 was great yes but you're not 16 anymore... move on already. Waste of money if you're getting the bone for a collection of games you've probably spent 100h+ on

The Xbox One has heaps going for it, including the MCC, you wont be disappointing with the system.

That's pretty much the worst Halo, but whatever floats your boat. The Halo collection seems pretty kickass, so I'd understand getting an Xbone for that, but just for Halo 2? ...lol.

I've bought consoles for worse. At least you know what you're getting.

Just buy the console you want and enjoy games . End of story .

The MC Collection will be a must have this year and there is no way I am passing it up.

Serious question, what has the PS4 got going for it? I keep asking this question and I don't get a reply. In my view both consoles are equally useless, but the fanboys seem to tell me the PS4 has loads going for it and the X1 doesn't.

Then the cows keep posting a Wikipedia cut out showing the PS4 has more games but most of those games aren't exactly good, showing how pointless the whole thing is.

So seriously, what has the PS4 got going for it?

Of course Halo 2 is going to be good, you all played it ten years ago.

TLDR but You need a break from forums like this if you actually feel guilty buying a console because of some allegiance to a different console . If a certain console looks to be the most enjoyable then there is no reason at all to feel bad about buying it.

To me the biggest problem with Halo 2 was the Brutes. All they ever wanted to do was run straight at you. But man, the game sure was prettier than the first one. :)

I've got a friend who was wrestling between X1 and PS4 and ended up picking X1 because of this collection. I'd like to have it but it ain't having as strong an effect on me as it is him. MS under Phil Spencer (My God, was Mattrick a disaster or what?! He should be on Sony's payroll) has taken me from 100% sure I'm picking PS4 to 90% sure but in the end I just can't get passed what a horribly bad job Mattrick did with the hardware design decisions, there's nothing Spencer can do to fix that.

how is Xbox One a failed brand? its the second fastest selling console of all time behind the ps4. its weird how people are trying to act as if the system is doing bad...its doing excellent.

We will see if the current crop of gamers will adopt the nature of Halo 2.

I can't wait: I loved halo 1 but haven't played it since the original Xbox. I have the metal case halo 2 but never really played it because that's the year I got into WoW lol. I never played halo 4 at all.

I almost envy those of you who haven't played all the Halos, to you all, this is a heck of a deal, enjoy. :)

For me, Halo 2's campaign I played the least so I am really looking forward going through it again as it is I guess one of the most unique in the whole Halo series.

Don't worry, the XBox Support Group will be here to tell you that you made the best decision possible and give you coping mechanisms like Cloud and DX12 to get you through.

Besides, we all know this thread is a complete crock of shit considering you could have installed Halo 2 on a laptop from the last 5 years and connected an XBox controller to it if you were really that hard up about the game.

don't be ashamed and welcome to the party! Be sure to pick up Forza Horizon 2 while you are at it (if you like racing games).. it is awesome.

Also, you may grow to like the tv integration and snap modes even if you arent particularly excited about those atm. It's the little things like being able to turn the volume up or down while in the middle of a race by voice control or pausing a workout video mid routine (or any dvd/blu ray for that matter) without having to go grab the remote that can have you truly appreciate the nice piece of tech that the X1 is.

@YD_11: one of the reasons I play my Xbox one over my ps4 is because it's integration into my tv and stereo. I turn on my Xbox and everything comes on I turn it off and everything's off. I have to go out of my way to play ps4 and I don't notice enough of a difference to play a ps4 game unless it's an exclusive like last of us remastered.

@scottpsfan14: I inly played hallo 3 multiplayer. Guess I can go back and do the story of them all now. Do they link together pretty well?

hehe, I can pretty much go along with that with the only caveat being, I'm very interested in playing through Halo 2 again and see if my feelings changed since back in the day I felt it had the weakest campaign but now feeling like it's unique since you get to play as the covenant. Forgot a lot about it so it should make it interesting for me.

@jeezers: no need to feel guilty bro, I've been debating picking up a XB1 specifically for Halo:MMC (within the collection...halo 2) plus XB1 will have great games. My only delimma is I don't have as much time as I used to to devote to gaming so I don't know if getting all 3 is a good investment for me. If I was only in school however and didn't really have an responsiblities, no question, would have all 3.

I feel "sad" for you ... IF you wanted to play this you could with some other way ... way cheaper if you get me. Nowday PCs running games like HALO 2 at extreme graphics and i think if you search about any decent graphic mod ...oh well. Not that i ever cared about HALO but definitly i wouldnt buy a new gen console for a game i could easily find on PC.

In b4 thread that gets posted after the Halo Collection launches and we get told how XBone is the best console ever by OP.

If the X1 sucks then the PS4 must be a hunk of shit! One system offers a little more power while the other offers more features and a superior online network and both have roughly the same amount of big budget exclusives including new IP's. So why is the PS4 outselling the X1? HYPE! You and every other PlayStation humping parasite can make up any excuse you want it still wont change the fact that not even Sony know's why the PS4 is selling the way it is! That's a fact! The X1 offers more than the PS4 and MS are in a far better position financially than Sony could ever dream of. Yeah, the PS4 has more games overall - if we want to include a ton of indies that almost nobody cares about. The fact is, the PS4 offers nothing up and over the X1 that justifies it's sales lead and it's very telling that even Sony has openly acknowledged this.

Your ae right about the X1 selling very well and people always want to call it a "failing brand" cause it's selling less than the PS4 right now. But I have to correct you on one thing, it's the third fastest selling console behind the PS4 and the Wii.

@slim70: hows the xbox got superior online? u did know that xbox online got hacked aswell and brought the servers down aswell? so dont go around saying xbox is superior when clearly is not! and you do know microsoft is also in a financial situation aswell considering investors wanted microsoft to sell its xbox brand u fanboy.

and games you tell me what games microsoft got besides halo , forza , quantum break and sunset overdrive? pretty much nothing! atleast sony has much bigger 1st party and alot of support from third party and indie thats what puts sony on top of microsoft! what makes sony much better then microsoft they offer more variety games like hello games with no mans sky to LBP from order 1886 to uncharted 4 and yet they still got more games to announce so you stick with your timed exclusive console y we get the benefit of some proper games ' looking forward to H1Z1' sorry xbox you dont get it

Hmmm what other games does the X1 have, let me see if I can help with that. Gears, Ori and the blind Forrest, Smite, Crackdown, Phatom Dust, Fable Legends, ScaleBound, Titanfall, TombRaider {Times Exclusive}, Killer Instinct, Dead Rising and I'm sure more exclusives to be announced. As far as the superior Online, I think they are both on equal ground but the social aspect of X1 is more streamlined than it is on the PS4. I don't know how many times I"m looking at Twitch on the PS4 and it just stops working while on the X1 it runs next to perfect with no drops.

Never got into the Halo get back in the day and I want this collection there is just too much value to pass it up every X1 owner should be buying this
