Dragon Quest 4, 5 and 6 are coming to the DS, and we all know how popular the franchise is in Japan as well as around the world. This officially seals the PSP's fate in Japan, nothing will save it now, as well as the rest of the world. While they are remakes, some of us who are fans of the series missed out on these games when they came out so remakes will be good. I did not start playing Dragon Quest until the Gameboy remakes came out myself so I have been itching to play the other ones besides 8 which I already have.

Why is it that since the PSP has not sold as much as the DS people think it is a failed system?

It has sold something like 25-30 million units so far...for a first time handheld...

Its also not true that the DS has better games. Its only a difference of opinion.

Younger people like more of Mario stuff and Pokemon, overall the kinds of games that the DS offers. DS also attracts some older people cause of things like Brain Age. On top of all that, its price makes it a good buy for most people. Its a fact that young people do not have loads of money so they will likely buy the cheaper game. Things like these, along with the young peoples interest in DS's games and the credibility of the previous Nintendo systems are all going for the DS.

Hence, it being more popular.

BUT, this does not in anyway mean that PSP is a failure. A lot of people like myself own both systems and believe the PSP is better because it offers them games that are interested in more so than the DS games.

These aren't even confirmed yet for NA.
I'd settle for just DQV if I had to. But I definately want them all.

I've only played VII & VIII, but I played over 250 hours on each one of them, and they both left me wanting more.
And I've heard V is condidered the best in the series by many.

Even as a DS Owner, I have to disagree with the OP. The DS sales are driven by the casual market; these are games the majority of DS users will never purchase. Yes, they will probably sell well. But PSP Killer? No chance. God of War for the PSP will outsell any of the Dragon Quest games ... maybe all of them.

Why would Square remake those games again? They did itabout10 years ago and they were not exactly huge sellers on the Gameboy so it seems illogical to remake them after people played them. Not everyone has owned every Dragon Quest game, what with DQ 5 and 6never being released outside of Japan. So a NES and 2 SNES remakes which are guaranteed to be great games (after Final Fantasy 3 was a huge success and Final Fantasy 4 is coming as well). Yet the PSP gets 2 FF remakes that people already played on the NES or GBA, why remake them again with only polished textures and the same graphics otherwise? Just seems to me like the PSP is getting all the scraps while the DS gets the majority of games from SE that are remakes or brand new games.

DQ6 is coming out for DS? This might just motivate me to finally get one. That game rules on many levels.

And on a side note, it's still the only RPG I know of that gives you a flying bed as air transport :P

Elite Beat Agents? New Super Mario Bros? Metroid Prime: Hunters?

And with Zelda: Phantom Hourglass, Ninja Gaiden DS and more on the horizon... I guess the DS just doesn't have games, huh?

I pity you, really I do. I play my DS almost every day and have well over 20 games for it that I enjoy playing and there is a whole slew more on the way. The PSP's upcoming game list can't even compare to what the DS has imo, but I won't deny that the PSP is getting some cool games, but I doubt Crisis Core is going to be one of them, most SE spinoffs generallysuck as has been proven by Crystal Chronicles.

DS: Final Fantasy 12: Revenant Wings, Sonic Rush Adventure, MegaMan ZX Advent, Final Fantasy 4, FF Tactics Advance 2, Dragon Quest Monsters Joker, Front Mission, The Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass, New Super Mario Bros 2, Donkey Kong Jungle Climber, The Settlers, Jam Sessions, Guitar Hero, Luminous Arc and Heroes of Mana are just a few games coming out for this year (a few games might not be out like NSMB2, FFTA2 and Guitar Hero).

FF Tactics: The War of the Lions and Silent Hill Origins are the only two games for the handheld that might be worth owning, I do not see nearly as many games that would justify the purchase, but then again maybe I am being biased. I have considered getting a PSP but it is not worth it without the games.

Excellent news for DS owners. DQ, 4, 5 and 6 were in need of a remake and there is no better machine for them to come to.

Also great news about Viva Pinata as well, the DS really is the best handheld out there by far

NobuoMusicMaker

so let me get this straight, a spinoff of an old final Fantasy game will set the world on fire whereas 3 main entries in the DQ series (some of which never came out in the west) aren't anything to get excited about?

 hilarious damage control from the owner of an inferior handheld

For a handheld that's supposedly been killed by DS hundreds of times (if we are to believe the sheep that post here), PSP is doing surprisingly well.

Lawl, PSP has nearly 6 million sold in Yapan and somehow it's going to die because of three remakes? The DS' big RPG hitter is DQ IX. The PSP has its own set of Gundam and Final Fantasy games to get the Japanese hot and bothered.

Just lawl at the notion of the PSP going goodbye after already establishing itself as a success. This isn't 2005.

These might be killer apps in Japan but i would be highly surprised if DQ 4,5,6 are released stateside. DQ8 did well here. DQ7 didnt even make greatest hits status and the last one before that was DQ4 on the NES.
