[QUOTE="TimeToPartyHard"]Actually I heard it was the GPU that ultimately is responsible for the RROD.bobaban

Yea I saw that the new SKU's were still getting the RROD. Plus MS announced there will be a new GPU in August 2008.

Link? Or I'm not buying it.

Plus cows where did this rumor start that the GPU is the main heat problem in the 360? LINK? Plus I have seen many threads online to fix the RROD problem by just replacing the CPU X-clamps.

There was a thread with a link a few weeks back, but like any thread that has anything negative about the 360 it gets little or no attention. I'll see if I can find it.

Well, you know...since after a whole year Sony has released ZERO AAA exclusives (R&C is down to 89 on Metacritic) and most multiplatform titles suck on the PS3, serious gamers had to put up with RROD problems. But they can look at this thread for information on how to buy an "Xbox 360 that will work now". *booes for Sony*

Im guessing you like it when people walk all over you then?

My launch unit has never had a problem...and if it does, MS will fix it for free.

MS has delivered the games. Sony, well...you know. Do Cows like it when Sony promises the stars for $600...and then delivers Lair?

Well, Sony has had to distribute commitment to games over 3 platforms, while MS chose to focus on one. When you look at the big picture, the entire PS brand has produced many enjoyable games since the next gen started.

Wow. That is the weakest excuse I've ever heard.

Supposing that you are correct, that "distributed commitment" has surely not helped Sony this gen. Heck, they are begging devs not to abandon them. As a 360 owner and a hardcore gamer, I'm glad Sony embarked in this distributed commitment of theirs since it gave MS a chance to take a commanding lead (while Sony was producing Lair...lol).

I'm not trying to defend Sony. It's just a possible explanation.

You're not informing me of anything new with that statement. What's the point of even saying that?

I was referring to the GPU being the main heat source. Not that there would be a new die shrink of the GPU. All consoles get die shrinks of CPU/GPU over time.

Disc scratching occures when you move the console from vertical to horizontal or vice versa while it is on with a game inside the system. It's happened to me once, and the whole system broke with it when my friend's little brother accidentally kickedthe 360 off the shelf.

wow looky there you are getting walked all over again. You get it back it has the potential to break again.

Any product has the potential to break. The PS2 had many problems. PS3s do break down, you know.

Do you know of a product that is guaranteed never to break...ever?

I lol'd at this whole argument

yes products break, but how many threads have you seen with a reports of millions of PS3/Wiis breaking down because of a overheating problem?

With that said Im going to to point out some of your other fanboy comments above that really made me lmao

1. the who PS3 has no AAA games kindda fails. Seeing as how Sigma has a 9.0 on GS I believe that falls under AAA status dont you think? and GameRankings, (seeing as you used Metacritic) still says R&C is AAA so thats 2 AAA games there.

2. this whole "Real gamers put up with the RROD" just made me laugh...your pathetic, I mean that is the most fanboy remark Iv ever heard on GS

3. How many times does MS have to fix you 360 before you give up on it? I mean Iv heard of people who are on their 10th  thats just sad really...MS should really only have to fix it once after that why bother with a failuar product?

I felt to need to point this out, now to get to the topic at hand,

I think its great that MS is trying to do something about this problem(after what 2 years?) but the falcon chip isnt GARUNTEED to solve the problem it just slows down the problem. When they can fix it permently(like Sony did with the PS2 and like most companies do with their products) then I MIGHT consider a 360

Yeah, I knew some Cow was going to bring this up. Like I said, I know there is a problem. MS fixes the problem for free.

I have not experienced the famous defect, but I know some people who have.

1. the who PS3 has no AAA games kindda fails. Seeing as how Sigma has a 9.0 on GS I believe that falls under AAA status dont you think? and GameRankings, (seeing as you used Metacritic) still says R&C is AAA so thats 2 AAA games there.

sparkypants

If you like your games, good for you. I like the 360 library.

BTW, check Metacritic again. R&C now has a score of 89. Sigma? Well, I'll wait for Sigma 2.

2. this whole "Real gamers put up with the RROD" just made me laugh...your pathetic, I mean that is the most fanboy remark Iv ever heard on GSsparkypants

Personal insults. Nice.

How Sony fanboys continue to wait for games that get delayed or flop...now that is pathetic. But it is a free country...

Real gamers like to play good games. Many gamers put up with the RROD because they are enjoying the 360s library. Is that too difficult for you to understand? You like to play Lair? If you do, the I guess you chose the right conlsole.

The 360's cross-platform games are just better. XBL is better than what Sony has to offer. Even after a new Sony SKU, the 360 is still less expensive.

If you are a gamer, it is the best choice out there.

3. How many times does MS have to fix you 360 before you give up on it? I mean Iv heard of people who are on their 10th  thats just sad really...MS should really only have to fix it once after that why bother with a failuar product?sparkypants

I don't know. I'll get back to you when I find the answer. So far I've had no problems, so you might have to wait some time.

I think its great that MS is trying to do something about this problem(after what 2 years?) but the falcon chip isnt GARUNTEED to solve the problemsparkypants

We will see.

it just slows down the problem.sparkypants

Speculation!

When they can fix it permently(like Sony did with the PS2 and like most companies do with their products) then I MIGHT consider a 360

sparkypants

Stay tuned. Maybe this new unit will indeed fix the problem.

Some of units in stores right now (some Halo editions and most of the Elites) still don't come with the Falcon chip. Also, consider the possibility that the accounts of new SKUs with RROD problems might originate from Sony fanboys masquerading as 360 owners.

Don't you ever run out of it? HEEEEY THE WHOLE WORLD == COWS!!! THEY FAKE IT!! I mean, hasn't MS themselves proved you wrong numerous times already?

I was bored so I was checking the different forums on xbox.com when I came upon a thread dealing with the new Falcon units.

Multiple owners have reported around a 25 degree improvement in temperature.

360 without falcon: 120 F

360 with falcon: 95 F

The way to identify the units with the new chip:

  1. Lot #0734 (Halo 3) or later (all SKUs)
  2. Manufactured on or after 8/24/07(An HDMI Premium manufactured on 8/19 has been reported as 65nm.)
  3. Team FDOU (Other teams may be Falcon as well, but none have been reported)

The Lot# and Team information is printed on the box. The Manufacturing date is next to the serial#...I believe you can read this information by lifting a little tab.

Some people have reported that the new Premium units with Forza II and Ultimate Alliance bundled in are all Falcon units, but make sure the Lot# is correct.

Not all Halo Edition 360s and few Elite models have the new chip. It seems that your best chance to get the Falcon is with a Premium or an Arcade (HDMI is now standard on all 360s).

Pimpshigity21

Ok, you claim this thread has Falcon chip information, where is it? Where are the links to MS saying that any of this is true. I also think that you are full of it because instead of providing links and actual helpful information you dissup anyone who disagrees with you or tries to make a point. If this is truely about Falcon then why do you talk about Lair and R&C.

Plus in one of your responses you say that the EB sales people are not electrical engineering experts, fair point, but I don't see what makes you an expert either. Plus I like how your so MS biased, so your opinion means nothing until I see a credible source.

And BTW what will MS do about all this: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Xbox_360_technical_problems

Hey, since you asked so politely, why don't you go look for the thread yourself. If you find it too difficult to find the thread, well maybe ill post the link.

It does not take an electrical engineer to figure it out (hint hint...hardware forum).

Hey, you don't have to believe anything I say. If you don't want to buy a 360, you are more than welcome to enjoy the library of whatever console you do chose to get. Have fun!!!

Disk scratching was one lot from way back in march or something that were missing a part in their disk drives. Anything other then that is caused by people moving the box with a disk in the drive.

Actually I heard it was the GPU that ultimately is responsible for the RROD.TimeToPartyHard

I heard the same thing. But keeping the overall heat down should eliminate the problem. M$ has already been reported to have added a larger heat sink, among other changes. The Falcon is just icing on the cake.

Yeah the overall heat was obviously the problem with the GPU being the hottest part. If MS dropped that by 25 degrees then theRROD should dramatically decrease. Of course some 360's will still break and Cows will show pictures and laugh.

That doesnt mean the percentage of 360's breaking hasent been reduced. MS just cant just say its fixed because they will look like jackasses every time someone posts a picture on the internet.

Some users with both units (old and new Falcon) wrote that when they touch the back of an old unit after around 2 hours of playing a game the unit is hot. When they touch the back of a falcon chip they say they it feels barely warm (95 F).

nice avatar!

Um.

Good Job taking almost 3 years to do this mircosoft?

TOAO_Cyrus1

Um.

More like two years. Get your facts straight. But yes, it is about time.

By the time the problem is fixed( according to MS), it will be August '08, which is almost 3 years(minus a few months).

Chutebox

Is that how long Microsoft gave the older 360s 'till their RRoD?

I don't know if I'm understanding your question right, but MS said that the RRoD problem will be fixed by August 2008. It was posted here a few weeks back with a link, but I didn't save it.

That doesnt mean the percentage of 360's breaking hasent been reduced. MS just cant just say its fixed because they will look like jackasses every time someone posts a picture on the internet.

Very good point! It's better to just we have improved them, or made changes, so they cover themselve's PR wise at least.

Only X360 Fanboys and random blogs say it's fixed. Until Microsoft says it's fixed, it's not fixed. And everytime the media asks Microsoft says "we don't comment on speculation or rumor." That says to me it's not fixed. You can look at Amazon anytime you want, people even with the 65nm chips on the Halo X360 are saying it's dying left and right.

The problem isn't fixed until Microsoft says it is. Secondly Falcon is only the CPU not the GPU. Unfortunately it's the GPU that pops and causes the RROD.

Actually I heard it was the GPU that ultimately is responsible for the RROD.TimeToPartyHard

That would make sense... As the if the GPU still worked you could just display a preprogrammed message through the normal output... and wouldn't need to resort to an Physical output code... Or so I would think.

Hey, random blogs is where we found out there was a problem in the first place. If you chose to believe that this will not fix the problem, don't buy a 360. It's your loss.

Heat is what causes the "GPU that pops". A cooler (25 degrees) machine will certainly help that GPU not to pop.

Most of the Elites in stores still have the old chip -- few people have been able to find a Falcon Elite.

Read the posts in the xbox.com hardware forums. There are prictures that will help you identify Falcon models.

Good luck.

Only a handful of Halo 3 Xbox 360s have the falcon chip in them. Not all Halo 3 models do.

Either way, Microsoft still has made significant improvements to the hardware to make RROD much less of a risk.

Yea I saw that the new SKU's were still getting the RROD. Plus MS announced there will be a new GPU in August 2008.

Some of units in stores right now (some Halo editions and most of the Elites) still don't come with the Falcon chip. Also, consider the possibility that the accounts of new SKUs with RROD problems might originate from Sony fanboys masquerading as 360 owners.

I saw it in EB, and the employee was telling the customer that this new chip will really only "slow down" the rate of occurence.

Ahh, yes...EB employees are authorities in electrical engineering. ;)

Get it now from BB with a replacement warranty and don't worry about it. I have a launch unit and I play it death...but it has not died. LOL

I bought one at Best Buy with the warranty and they don't stand behind their warranty very well at all. My 360 crapped out 2 months after I bought it due to a faulty disk drive and they replaced my 360 with a new one, but told me the warranty wasn't transferable and if I wanted to have the extended warranty on the new 360 I would have to pay for another warranty.

You should have talked to a manager. When you bought that warranty, it was for two years and should have transferred over to your new 360. If you made a big deal about it, and explain that what you paid for was a TWO YEAR REPLACEMENT PLAN, then you can get what you want. I know I wouldn't stand for that.

How is not buying a X360 my loss?? Between the PC I'm on right now and PS3 I get all the games I want. Including Bioshock and Gears. But back to topic. Just like I said only X360 fanboys say it's fixed. Microsoft hasn't said it's fixed, and users are still having issues. And you are a fanboy. It's okay if you like your white box, but lying isn't helping anyone. And the only reason you could only find out about it on "random blogs" in the first place was because Microsoft was deleting forum posts of those experiencing the issues. And in case you don't remember they lied lied lied trying to cover it up. Remember "within industry norms."

Believe me I talked to the manager and after getting nowhere with him I called corporate and still got the big FU.

LOL. Another example of a Cow needing two machines to squeeze some fun out of his PS3 purchase.

Xbox fanboys are reporting lower temperatures. Since high temperatures caused the problem, everybody is hoping for the best.

users are still having issues.EmperorSupreme

Lies. It's too soon to tell one way or the other. People reporting problems purchased newer units with the old architecture.

MS might have taken away a Cow's favorite argument to use against the 360. What are cows going to do now? :P

And you are a fanboy.EmperorSupreme

And you are one too. Sad thing is...you are a fanboy of the losing console. Be loyal to the end, brave soldier.

Saying that the new chip will not fix the problem is a lie. You just don't know. Keep lying and karma will get you sooner or later.

Holy crap...another lie. MS has never deleted RROD information from their site. Go look right now; there are hundreds of threads on the subject (some are older than a year). People complain left and right...they threaten to sue, damn the console, claim they reported MS to the BB...you name it.

Again, you are lying. Can you say hipocrite?

Man, I really don't like Cows. They will do anything to promote their dying console.

it sucks to have bought a Falcon, only to realize it's still not fixed. It has to go through two hardware revisions until any hope can be had for it. That's sad.

well, look at the bright side, you have a 3 years warrantly.

what I can say about my friend? he has moded his xbox 360 and then he got the RROD. he can't send it back to M$ because he lost the warrently.

X360 is the worst console ever in terms of stablity.

Responding to segments of sentences to fullfill your own agenda doesn't make it very valid. PS3 isn't dying incase you are mis-informed. PS3 has outsold X360 by about a million units worldwide this year. Secondly PS3 now has better games, better marketing, the support of the movie industry, and a lower price tag. That doesn't look like something thats going to die to me.
