The better character is obviously Drake.
The others don't or barely say anything.

Obviously Freeman. He has so much depth and is characterized so well, everyone thought Drake was convincing when Elena was injured, but when Alyx was injured I could swear Gordon's reaction was just like the real thing. Plus his charming personality, number of hilarious anecdotes, and the emotion he packs in when going through the terifying circumstances of the HL games really personified him as a real human being, and a real hero.
Freeman doesn't have any personaliy, I wouldn't even call him a character, more like a name on paper. I haven't played any Halo game, but from what I hear MC isn' that much different, so I voted for Drake who is an actual character. But if you mean who would win in a fight, I guess Freeman would.
[QUOTE="Mozelleple112"]
Drake is handsome, charming, funny, etc yet people here vote for two mutes over him? What the hell.

What some find as charm and wit others can easily find it annoying and cocky. Works both ways for everything :P
Your avatar, Sequelitis? Man, that episode was great .Freeman doesn't have any personaliy

Doesn't need to. He's got a cool background, and his awesomeness is developed through the lens of the player, throughout the Half-Life series. Everything the player accomplishes in the series (i.e. kicking Combine ass) can also be attributed to Freeman. Maybe he's not a full-fledged character, but he's an icon.
Mario doesn't have much writing either.

not really. throughout all the half life games it never feels like hes a part of the story. people just talk at him and give him orders. he barely counts as a character imo because if you replace him with anything else you still have the same game[QUOTE="svenus97"]

Never said anything about Mario, but, anyways, if people want him to be credited as a good character he needs some kind of personality, but he's neither a good nor a bad character, he just isn't one. You could replace him by a robot taking orders from Alyx and her father and it would still be the same. For example we could compare him to Isaac Clarke from DS1. We don't hear him, like Freeman, but we actually see him, so that adds some value. But, Clarke at least has a motive, looking for his girlfriend. What are Freeman's motives, compulsive need to take orders ?

The annoying cockiness seems to have been subdued a bit in the latest game, for what its worth.Nathan Drake is WAY better than Master Chief of the RROD and some stupid nerd with glasses. Ok that wasn't really fair I admit, but I like Nathan Drake better because he's witty and Uncharted is simply a better game than Halo or Half Life will ever be. Although Freeman does have admirable qualites, he is pretty intelligent so he could easily invent or form a complex plan to solve problems, Master Chief is just kinda generic IMO. Justa big dude in a cyborg suit, I don't know why Halo fans think the series has a good story, it doesn't.
In short, Nathan Drake kicks both their asses because he is more athletic and cool. Plus he has TWO women! Freeman has Alex and Master Chief is a loser becuase all he get's is a virtual chick (just like Xbox guys, they are lonely).

Him being an icon doesn't make him a good character. Mario's a crappy character, the games about him are just very good.Gordon Freeman barely talks, it's hard to make a relationship with a character you know nothing about. As far as I know, Gordon could have a russian accent and be extremely rude to everyone.
I pick Nathan Drake.

If you speak russian then, yea, he speaks russian. Gordon Freeman is a manefestation that represents the individual player who journey's throughout the game. Basically in easier to understand terms, Gordon Freeman is you.

Or that person before was lying. I heard word from a fourm some time ago that Gordon Freeman was actually just a lowlife janitor and everyone JOKED about the PhD stuff and when the aliens came they just said to hell with it and called him a scientist.
Still...I'm not sure that's correct. I think he was just making that up...not to sure.

Even though it is your opinion, if we're talking about games, there is no way that Uncharted will live up to Half Life. In defense of Halo, it does have a good story with better playability than Killzone, but you won't admit it since you kiss up to your PS3 too much. Gordon Freeman doesn't need to be athletic when he has a crowbar, gravity gun, and a hazard suit. He needs no one to back him up. He also went through a whole town filled with zombies, proving how bada** he is. Freeman would kill Drake anyday and most of all, he has a degree. Nothing you said can't be compared to that fancy degree.
To each their own. I dont have a degree, my company Lieutenant does. But I have 39 years of life experience in different parts of the world and the LT is 24, but has a degree. Who do you guess the young Privates come to for advice? As for the suits..........any human can wear the hazard suit, the Spartan armor can only be worn by a Spartan. I'll go with the Chief. In my opinion, from solid, good experience with all game franchises, I just find the silent protagonist to be better than the protagonists of both Halo and Uncharted franchises. Freeman can go through a town, fighting a bunch of zombies when no one could, but he did it anyway. Plus, he has a degree, which is better than treasure hunting skills. The hazard suit is also better than the spartan armor. But hey, I'm a good guy. You can vote who is the best game character out of the three right now.

You GIVE him ther personaility. You develop his story along the way. You evolve him as a character.
I prefer non-talking characters over chitter-chattering characters out there like those found in Final Fantasy games.
Master Chief has won battles against CIVILIZATIONS, you think he couldn't go through a town full of zombies?
The HAZARD suit better than MJOLNIR??? Maybe cosmetically lmao that's it.
You speak of Freeman having a degree, the Spartan Project Phase II actually enhanced the active intelligence of all the Spartans exponentially so....
Anyway, this thread will inevitably go down to favorite game, not best character in terms of abilities.
[QUOTE="SPYDER0416"]The OP doesn't say anything about them fighting. :| It's a "vs" thread....this is SW.....it's assumed.Lets see, and everyman scientist with barely any combat experience outside a few days of fighting (HL and HL2 combined are like, 4 days in Freeman's life), vs a treasure hunting thief everyman without any sort of armor, vs a space marine that is genetically enhanced and wearing a combat suit.
Though I love Freeman and Drake much more then Chief, I think Chief would win. He's a freaking Spartan, using tech 500 years in the future against Drake and Freeman.
DragonfireXZ95
Plus TC spouts out things like Freeman going through a town full of zombies when nobody else would. John could take a 12 hour nap while getting chewed on by zombies, wake up then stroll out like a BOSS.
It's funny - the characters, read right to left, are ordered from most fleshed out character to least fleshed out.
I prefer Halo, but really, Chief's backstory is rarely visited in the games. And Freeman's a emotionless mute with a massive fanboy following. Drake at least has a defined character and personality.
It's like asking if Duke Nukem has more character than the paddles in Pong.
Drake by a country mile. And that is a non-biased opinion. I respect you Sonic, but you even said yourself that you have a bias towards Half Life.
I love Half Life myself. I only get all of the games within franchises that I really like. I have the Platinum Collection for Half Life 1 on PC, and Orange Box on both PC and 360. I also just love Valve as a developer, so I have other games made by them like Portal 2, Left 4 Dead 2 and various others on Steam.
I also love Halo. I have every Halo game, even Halo Wars, and the original Combat Evolved plus the remake. Chief is a boss, and a great character.
I also love Uncharted. I have all the Uncharted games. Drake is just a likeable guy, and he has tons of personality. Plus, I'm not going to spoil anything, but Uncharted 3 does go more in depth about Drake, and there are a lot of subtle things in that game that contribute to his character development that some people might not have caught on their first play through.
I really don't see how the answer could be anything other than Drake here. You could completely argue whether or not Halo and Half Life are better games than Uncharted, but as far as Gordon Freeman and Master Chief vs Nathan Drake as a character? Come on!
Does it matter?
I'd pick Chief, but Zero craps on every character ever created anyway. Z Saber > Crowbar.

Probably because the games you listed, the player has an effect on the character's strengths, weakness, and sometimes morality.
With Freeman, you're just playing a predetermined character that has little no emotional reaction at all.
oh man the fuking irony I am confused, what irony? Surley his MJOLNIR power armor provides a sufficeint advantage in battle? If your refering to whom is the better in game charecer and not win a fight to the death, it would probably be Drake.[QUOTE="Bardock47"]

It's a question about who the best character is.
Obviously Chief would ****ing destroy Drake and Freeman, at the same time. Drake and Freeman combined, with a well thought out plan and every weapon at their disposal, would be lucky to take a half centimeter off of Chief's armor shield.

Well, then isn't the obvious answer Drake? Gordan has no persoanality in game, and MC is very stifled in game and has much mre persoanlity in the books and but those dont count in this.I'm not going to comment on the overall quality of the respective games, but Drake is a no-brainer as just a character.
Master Chief is about as bland as they come, and Gordon Freeman literally does, says, or interacts with nothing. I just don't get the love for Gordon as a character (other then the love of the Half-life games) Freeman is not even boring, or a poor character.... he is simply non existant.
Dey all 'Umies. I will krump 'em all like da rest of 'em. We 'Ave more Dakka, more choppa's, and we are dead 'Ard wez are. Dem 'Umie gitz got nofing on da boyz. Wez da Orkz, and wez fer fighn' and winning!WAAAAAAAAAAGH!!!!!!!!!!!
So it's obvious who I support:P
First of all: so funny how ppl get buthurt their favorite character isnt winning.
2nd: Freeman has a GG and a crowbar wich makes him autowin
