Im more amazed by the destructible envirments....it looks freakin tight, plus Heavenly Sword has already done 1000 enemies on screen.

1000s on screen? 100s sounds more reasonable...

xTHExJUICEx
Well the 100 enemies on screen is significant because in Gears there was never a huge amount of units on screen. There was enough to make the game fun but it wasnt like a huge all out war. So now they can possibly make some huge war sequences, though that may be pretty hectic.
Well its actually a UE3.5 tech demo but it is running off the Xbox 360 using the updated UE so overall it wont be too farfetched to see all these type of features in Gears of War 2. Well besides the big block of meat, that would just be wierd.justforlotr2004

100 not 1000 and umm yeah HS has thousand. Uncharted has same quality water. Seriously, calm down its only a tech demo.Super-Punch
There are a lot of games that had 1000, thats not the point its about Gears being able to have more enemies on screen at a time than last time.
its not gonna be in the game but it gives us a idea of how bigger the battles will be
and guys stop bringing up HS and uncharted both arnt even AAA titles lol
NOODLES_07
Whoops sorry about that I didnt know HS couldnt qualify since its not AAA, what else rules apply so we dont slip up again?

plzz mods, close this thread, soo much nonsense.
the first one couldnt manage more than 8 and now they believe it can do 1000, omg. im taking a break, this forum is getting to me as of lately.

OK then, what do all the cows say who said the huge numbers on screen at once like in Heavenly Sword couldn't be done on the 360?
What do they say about the water effects, which are very similar to Uncharted's?
Is this finally going to put to bed the issue of the tech difference between the PS3 and 360? It's so obvious now that both systems are much more equal than the last generation of Xbox and PS2!
Are you cows finally convinced?

Even the devs said the 360 still had a lot more power in it, if you believe ANY console of this generation have maxed out yet, you have a severe case of denial. Gears only covered 6 gigs, and more space doesn't equal better graphics, physics are gameplay, you have no idea what your talking about.
Epic are obviously going to use most of the features they showed in the tech demo in Gears 2 as well as other games. It may be hype, but they wouldn't show those features and cut them from Gears 2.

OK, lets assume it was running on a PC. To get a game like that to run on the 360 would take a little optimisation but its certainly not impossible. The biggest improvement, the physics will require epic to better figure out how to use multiple threads on the cores of the xenos.
Of course they could reduce the textures a little, keep the lighting effects up and keep the screen res down to 720p. (that display was huge and obviously would require a decent PC to run it)
A little further optimisation of the levels and there absolutely the features shown in that tech demo couldn't be introduced into Gears Of War 2. I mean why would they show all that then not include it on the 360? I doubt they would dare to do that, do you?

Although I agree with you I do have to agree with him on the fact that it IS a tech demo to sell the UE. Though in the tech demo what he is showing off is overkill, there doesnt need to be 100's of locus at once on screen, adding maybe 10 more per battle compaired to Gears would add enough to make it feel like a huge battle.

For christ sake no one is saying Gears of war is going to have 100 enimes on screen at once, that would be utter chaos and destroy the entire mechanic of the game. The ability to add a few more enmies here and there to make the fights seem a little bigger is the entire purpose of being excited that they were able to achieve this with UE3.5.

Well Lossless compresssion doesnt effect sound that much to where you would be able to tell the difference. Though yeah I mean Im not against more space, blu-ray is the future but right now we dont need it.
The difference in regards to 100 characters onscreen is that the enemy AI in Gears is so much better than that of Heavenly Sword. (In fact, just about everything in Gears was better than Heavenly Sword, but that's another discussion).
It's about context. Dynasty Warriors throws dozens and dozens of enemies onscreen at once, but they're dumb as dirt, so who cares? "Enemies onscreen" is not a known quantity. Which is to say that not all enemies are created equal, thus it's about more than just who has more enemies onscreen.
In fact, in the larger sequences in Heavenly Sword, it really worked a lot like the Dynasty Warriors games...the few enemies close to you would attack, and those farther away would just sort of "wait their turn."
In the original Gears, each battle was smaller - your squad against 4 or 5 Locust at any given moment aside from a few sequences, namely the end of the 2nd, 3rd and 4th acts. For people who've played that game to then imagine the dynamics of having exponentially more Locust onscreen at any given time... it's basically Epic upgrading the system and letting gamers know they can do so much more and provide hundreds of intelligent enemies onscreen at once.
Is it likely gamers will actually face 100 Locust at once in Gears 2? No. But the battles are promised to be of a larger scale.
And this principle holds true for all other games using UE3. The engine's been upgraded to allow for more power for their games as well, not just Gears.

There isnt one game on the PS3 that REALLY needs the blu-ray disc right now, sure some have used more than a dvd worth not with stuff that makes the game better.
it depends what you define as "better" some people would define better as uncompressed sound (audiophiles) and those people would say that it does help say that it does help the ps3, truthfully though id say it hasnt been needed thus far
Well Lossless compresssion doesnt effect sound that much to where you would be able to tell the difference. Though yeah I mean Im not against more space, blu-ray is the future but right now we dont need it.
u r living in the past dude, wake up.
How so? DVD9 has enough room to fit current gen games, your just running out of arguments.
