@SolidGame_basic: Yeah, it is due to some bullshit licensing issue. There is no wheel that works natively on all platforms, but there is this thing called the Drive HUB that helps...

https://collectiveminds-ca.myshopify.com/products/drive-hub

However, it is not supported very well on new consoles. So, you have to use this third party controller connected to the hub at the same time which has a specific licensing chip that tricks the console to think that the wheel is a supported device.

The G29 or G923 will work on both PS5 and PC. Those will give u access to both GT and Forza. No need for an Xbox if you have a good gaming PC.

@BassMan: lol, thanks for the info. I think my PC upgrade won't be for a while. Still rocking the 980 ti 😄 may wait for the next generation of GPUs. Right now I'm happy with XSX and PS5.

@SolidGame_basic: 980 Ti should still be giving u decent performance at 1080p on most games. You are definitely due for an upgrade though. The next-gen GPUs from NVIDIA and AMD should be out in the fall. Prices are dropping and GPU availability is better. So, hopefully by that time things should be more like normal and we can both upgrade without getting price gouged. Mind you, I currently have a 3080, so I don't need to upgrade, but I always want more fps.

Anyone want to give me some recommendations for a wheel? Just exploring the options 😎

you Can actually get the kit below for cheaper but it only has 5nm torque wheel base, and non load cell brake pedal.

trust me you want 8nm steering wheel and you want load cell brake pedal

https://fanatec.com/us-en/racing-wheels-wheel-bases/racing-wheels/gran-turismo-dd-pro-8-nm

direct drive or bust.

Direct Drive will give you more detail and Less input lag. Belts and gears will introduce a bit of input lag, direct drive gets rid of that, hence the name “direct drive”

wow, that looks amazing, but pricy. I assume there's some base you have to connect it to?

@SolidGame_basic: 3080 Ti is nice, but is a ripoff even at MSRP. It offers minimal performance over a 3080. Also for what he paid for his 3080 Ti, I was able to get a 3080 at launch, 5950X CPU, X570 mobo, 32 GB RAM and still paid less. So, I am good. :)

Yeah first time I paid that much for hardware in my life, and last time.

My next hardware will be bought in 5 years, when new factories are up and running.

I got the 5nm, but compared to my old betless wheel it's night and day. I can really feel the difference between the cars I drive. Just last night I was driving an old Camaro and I could feel the body lean and wheel slip during sharp turns. It's wild!

The 8nm boost pack is the next upgrade for sure.

YeH for that check out companies like GTOmega, Trakracer, or Simlab, That’s another $400 minimum

Anyone heard if they are adding more Menu Books? I am on 38 of 39 now, and would love to see more added later. The races are now getting LONGER (more laps) and now races are with 20 cars (during World Championships). Not a fan of off road rally races though. Good thing they are very rare.

I wouldn't be surprised if it turned loads of people off PC gaming.

Anyway, I got one, you got one, and I'm glad I can play Dying Light 2 at 120fps. The last patch was really good: it fixed DX12 mode so the game is ultra smooth now :)

How's the new CPU treating you?

Anyone playing this with Dual Sense? I find it pretty enjoyable. Haven't tried the gyroscope controls.

I played a bit on the controller before the wheel showed up and it was cool. The triggers gave you a good sense (see what I did there?) of what the car is doing. But it doesn't beat a DD wheel.

To test it out for you, I used the dual sense just now vs wheel. The performance for the driver was pretty much the same, although I haven’t tried the decent car I used with the dual sense with the wheel yet. Used same track though. Too much of a hassle, 2 minutes, to setup casually the storable wheel.

Wheel bonus:

Somewhat feels like driving a real car

Wheel is more comfortable than a controller in your hand

Semi-automatic easy to shift with paddles on wheel

I’m only 4 hours in. I would rate GT 7 a point more with a decent wheel. If I give it an 8 with dual sense it gets a 9 with wheel. If a 9, a 10 with wheel.

I have an entry level wheel, price wise moderate, Logitech G923.

I only played automatic transmission until my last session. I didn’t realize how awesome it is to use manual transmission with the wheel paddles. Too bad most of the awesomeness becomes common as you get use to it.

Yeah, it's a fun game the later into the Menu Books you get. More laps, longer tracks and more cars....leads to bigger winnings, more credits and more cars.

And this one has been in the works for at least about 5 years now and built from the ground up for this gen hardware. Likely launching sometime last half of this year.

Only the 5th biggest UK launch in the series. Actually was on Eurogamer and now know the full extent of the microtransactions, and yay the Brits are not entirely mugs.

A user worked out that you need to race 381 laps on a particular race to earn 20 million, the price of one car. So, GT 7 is made purposely to be the ultimate grindfest to push you to their obscene MTs, it is so bad that I bet Sony will backpedal in a few weeks with a grovelling apology.

I’d say if AC is 100% sim, GT7 is around 80-85% sim, the driving mechanics are that similar with a wheel and pedals

Forza Motorsport 7 more like 60% with a wheel and pedals

@rdnav2: You got me thinking about these direct drive wheels now as I would like to use a wheel with GT again. When I bought my G920 (PC and Xbox only) in 2015, DD was not very common and wheels were mostly gears or belt driven. Being that a direct drive motor is a lot more powerful, I am not sure my current racing rig will be able to support it properly....

Yours is a lot beefier and while mine is certainly adequate for my current wheel, it looks flimsy in comparison to your rig. Admittedly, I do not play racing games as much I used to, so having to upgrade the full wheel and rig setup would not be ideal. Also, the space between my TV and couch is limited as you can see. You think my current rig is up for the task of DD?

Yes I think it can handle the 5nm DD Pro from Fanatec And the standard CSL Pedals.

i think it might even handle the 8nm boost kit and the loadcell pedal upgrade.

you save a little bit of money by buying it all at once as a bundle vs upgrading later

but I don’t think you’d complain about your rig not being sturdy enough even with 8nm wheel base

+1 that. I'm using my 5nm with the desk clamp like a pleb. But it never feels like I'm going to break anything.

OK, thanks guys. I am thinking a Fanatec GT DD Pro Premium Bundle may be a future upgrade. :)

I am not planning on playing GT7 soon though. Hopefully, the game comes to PC so I can play at 4K/120 instead of on PS5.

I connect it to a USB hub that is connected to my PC in another room. I originally bought it to play Forza on X1, but then all the MS games started coming to PC, so I no longer use my X1 and never bothered with X1X or XSX. I have my PS5 in the living room to play GT7 if it doesn't come to PC....

I also have a Logitech Driving Force Pro which I bought with GT4 back in the day. Unfortunately, it never worked on PS4. So, I could not play GT Sport with it. Damn licensing bullshit. :(

@BassMan: what's the peripheral that you use to physically connect the wheel?
