So your basically gonna ignore the fact of PS2 having a massive install base. If we work in ratios. Halo should still outsell GT.

it better it seems PS3 fans have been hoping and waiting a long time for high selling exclusive like halo
dont know why tho but i keep seeing GT vs. halo sales threads
Actually since GT5 has less competition this year it really might out sell Reach.
Halo Reach has to compete against MOH, CODBO, Crysis 2, FalloutNV (it is a 1st person shooter RPG), ect.
GT5 main competition is what, Need for speed Hot pursuit (GT5 will crush it)
yeah, what im not getting is
PS2: over 100 million at the time
gt4: 15 million
xbox 360: 20 million at the time
Halo 3: over 8 million
if the ratio is like that, why should 35 million ps3 owners buy that much more ratio wise than 40 million xbox owners?
[QUOTE="TehNubTuber"]Thing is the 360 has no games, so everyone who owns a 360 is going to be looking at Reach, the PS3 on the other hand has so many high quality games that the sales are more spread out between games. SO I don't know Reach might win cause of the lack of 360 games.iDefineInfinity
Xbox 360 library > PS3 library in quality & quantity. In exclusives, the ps3 best the 360 by far
Xbox 360 gamers buy more games than PS3 gamers.
You'll have no excuses at all, when Reach tears your GT apart. We shall see. If a 40 dollar prolouge can sell nearly 5 mill copies, I don't see GT5 having a problem putting grand numberds on the sales charts.
Also, keep crying.

As for as libraries is concerned, it all falls on the buyer and his possessions. If he have nothing, and is looking for a HD console of his choice, the the 360 would be a great choice for him, but if he have a PC, then the 360 is basically irrelevant to him.
[QUOTE="VoodooHak"]
Assuming GT5 and Reach follow the same patterns as their predecessors, I don't see how GT5 could outsell Reach.
asylumni
Just out of curiosity, what pattern are you seeing?
Amount of units sold per game, even amount of units sold per series per generation. Taking user base into account, Halo still outsells GT. There's no reason to think that this won't hold true for GT5 and Reach.

Ok, in lieu of better, vgchartz has this
GT1 10.85m
GT2 9.37m
GT3 14.89m
GT4 10.54m
Halo1 6.43m
Halo2 8.43m
Halo3 11.03m
ODST 5.30m
Breakdown by gen.
PS1 20.22m
PS2 25.43m
Xbox 14.86m
360 16.33m
So what pattern is there? It could, perhaps be argued that the first full GT of a gen get huge sales and there's less interest in a second release, but that's really not what you're proposing. Seems like GT5 has a very good chance to outsell Halo Reach.
And how can you possibly conclude that Halo outsells GT?

Forget the fact that we're somehow excluding the PS3 and GT5P which is available a lower price.
There is no doubt that the GT franchise has outsold Halo as a whole. But we're trying to come up with a predictive model which means we have to weight the figures to account for userbase. That would be a more apples to apples comparison.
With PS2 as well over 100mil units and the 360 at 40 mil units. Even if we bump 360 up to 50 mil units and keep PS2 down at 100, the ratio is still in favor of Halo outselling GT.

all of these things, Including GT5 Outselling HALO REACH ''SHOULD happen.
But they Wont.
you can return to this in december and Quote me on it.
Jesus... a) Stop using vgchartz b) GT4 has only SHIPPED around 10 million copies, thats less than Halo 3 has actually SOLDThink about it.
Halo Reach is basically an American game, with 11.83 million copies of Halo 3 and ODST being sold in America, with the 200 k in Japan and 4.31 in Europe. http://www.vgchartz.com/worldtotals.php?name=halo%203
Gran Turismo, as a series is pretty evenly split, with 19 million sold in America, and 24 million sold in Europe.
http://www.vgchartz.com/worldtotals.php?name=gran+turismo&publisher=&console=&genre=&minSales=0&results=50&sort=Total
(Yes I know a lot of the games are from last gen, but even this gen's games, like Prologue and Turismo PSP, have the same kind of stats.)
So what do you guys think?

GT5 total w/w sales should be roughly 1/4 what they were on the PS2...67gt500That'd be less than the sales for GT5P which doesn't makes sense.

So we just ignore the fact that GT5: P is not by any means a full release, has a fraction of the content of a full release and was generally hammered by reviews for this? Should we also consider sales of Halo Wars then?
Attempting to draw conclusions based on total user-base is useless unless you know the make-up of said user-base. If it was a simple percentage, GT4 would've sold more than GT3, but it didn't. This is enough to ruin your percentage theory. Additionally, the chances are higher that a PS3 owner was a PS2 owner than not, but there's really no way to tell how many were the ones who bought GT3, GT4, both or none. Then there's the fans that are still waiting for a full GT release, of unknowable quantity, that still don't own a PS3.
Here's a predictive model for you. GT has sold over 10 million for 3 out of the 4 main titles and Halo is 1 for 4. Therefore, GT5 has a good chance to outsell Halo: Reach.
With an install base of only about 30-40 million, I highly doubt the GT sales will be as strong as they were for the past titles. Both the PS and PS2 had large user bases, and it took quite a while for Prologue to even reach 4 million.

Why? GT3 released to a user-base of between 6-16million PS2's and sold over 14 million. And if it was as simple as taking a percent of the installed base of the console, GT4 would've sold more than GT3, but it didn't.
Both the 360 and PS3 have a similar user base. This is about Halo Reach versus GT5, not GT5 versus the rest of the GT series. :?With an install base of only about 30-40 million, I highly doubt the GT sales will be as strong as they were for the past titles. Like Prologue ODST had a fraction of the content of a full release yet still managed to sell roughly two million more copies than Prologue.

Like Halo 3, which recently passed the 10M. The problem is that the PS3 userbase grows significantly slower than the PS2's did.

according to VG chartz:
Halo ODST: 5.3 million
GT 5 prologue: 3.76 million

Everyone here seems to be using vgcharts numbers. according to it Gran Turismo 5: Prologue sold over three milion seven hundred and fifty thousand unit and ODST sold over five million three hundred thousand units. Also consider the fact that ODST fame out late last year while prologue came out early 2008.
It's very difficult to predict which one is gonna sell more. Halo 3 sold more than 10M with the userbase being smaller, so Reach should in theory sell at least as much. There hasn't been an official GT this gen (GT5P could be an indiciative, but there were many things that hindered its sales, kinda like ODST), so we have to go by last gen sales. The problem is, the PS3 does not have neither the userbase nor the software sales of the PS2. Conclusion? It could, but it could not. Annoyingly obvious conclusion? Yup.IronBass
What he said.

well...acording to eurogamer ODST sold 2.5 million in it's first two weeks
can't find any reliable source on Gt though
