GS - Mario Kart Wii Review

I swear it seems like GS hands out high scores too Wii games all the time, but low to PS3 games all the time. It's the exact opposite almost everywhere else....(save for a few games that truly deserve their score, such as Mario Galaxy)BrownWalrus

Great score, really surprised about this game.

I thought it would of gotten horrid reviews, because no one really heard much about it since past couple of weeks, and now people seem really like it.

But i still dont know if i should pick this up, or go for bunch of wii points for wii ware....

Maybe because the Wii has good games and the PS3 has bad games.

You wanna talk about bad games? Try telling me that 9.1 for Warioware: Smooth Moves is justified, and 7.5 for Ratchet and Clank is justified. Of course you're going to say yes, i wouldn't expect any other answer.

You're comparing a mini-game collection to a platformer. Games of different genres aren't compared, rather compared in their own distinctive category. Warioware is a great mini-game collection, and better than most.

Whereas Ratchet & Clank is great (and didn't deserve a 7.5), but there are better platformers out there, so I could see how the score was low.

GT5: Prologue was indeed a demo (which means demonstration). They even put PROLOGUE in the name. It should be pretty obvious it's not a full game. It's also not priced like a full game.

Now, I just want to correct a few things you've said.

"And look at the GR scores vs the GS scores, it's a 0.2 DIFFERENCE."

Actually, at Gamerankings it's 82% at Metacritic it's 83%. Those are both factoring in Gamespot's 7.5 review. Their review is 7-8 points off from the average. The average would have been (slightly) higher on both sites if Gamespot's review was negated.

Now let's look at Mario Kart Wii. It's Gameranking's average is 83%. That's factoring in Gamespot's 8.5 review. The gamespot review for Mario Kart Wii was 2 points above average. The average would have been slightly lower if Gamespot's review was negated.

This is only one example. Compare the scores of games like NMH & Wario Ware to Uncharted & Ratchet.

What if Bungie decided you couldn't play a multiplayer battle by yourself? I can't imagine not being able to play Forza 2 online or off without having to have a friend nearby!? WTF??????????

The devs that made Mario Kart Wii are dumb, and the reviewer should have made this a 7 at best.

Based on what I read I would give it a 6.5 or 7, because he simply sounded annoyed by every good aspect.

He says that the weapons are more unbalanced than ever before, and yet this is the second highest scoring Mario Kart game next to MK DS. :| I dunno if this was another case of a game being overrated due to online play (first time for a MK console game) or because nostalgia clouded the reviewer (Lark Anderson LOVES Nintendo)or perhaps it was a bit of both, but MK Wii is definitely not an AA quality game. I actually don't know one person that has played this game and liked it. In fact everyone seems to have gone back to Double Dash and they previously hated that game.-Xeno-

that and the online in this game from what I've seen is a leap ahead of any other online attempt made by nintendo thus far.

oh yeah...and as it's been stated many times before the average for this game on GR is 83%. I don't see how the game is overrated on this site.

Just to show how ridiculous your logic is. However, you are right in assuming it didn't get AAA everywhere but GS. None the less, it has a huge majority of 90+ reviews. I'll give you the break down just for interests sake

AAA or higher - 46
AA or lower - 19

Over 70% of the critics who rated prime gave it a minimum of a 9.0.

Will likely buy sometime in future.

Mario Kart Wii does not look ugly, it's just not impressive.
