Because tracking sale in every country in this world is a ridiculous expectation of one company. That's why other companies do it :| Its not like we don't get Japanese numbers.

America is only open because the have to be, Japan can afford to be picky around electronics and such as they have excellent home grown electronics companies, the American car market is mainly American cars as they have American home grown car manufactorers who make cars made for Americans.

Japan don't need less reliable/worse quality electronics.

Americans don't need small cars for their large road systems.

Japan is GT5's weakest market in overall sales. (Only sold 15k this week for example) though per capita US may be weaker. Without Europe GT5 would struggle to break 2 million sales this year.
