Sony Exec: Gran Turismo 5 Launching "This Fall"

Uh oh. In an interview with Spanish website Canarias Al Dia, CEO of Sony Entertainment Portugal James Armstrong had some disconcerting words for Gran Turismo fans. Via Google translation (user subsonic offers another, human translation):

We believe that launching the product this fall, before Christmas, but not yet decided. I do not rule that uses the MC but I doubt it. 'GT 5′ is a great hope for Sony, a very important game for the company, which generates much income. We would have wanted him out before but we think the priority we are giving it our best. I'm very confident in this game that we launch this year and help us consolidate PS3 as the console that is large.

This actually isn't the first time we've heard from Mr. Armstrong. Back in November of 2008, he told a Spanish financial newspaper that GT5 would "arrive at Christmas [2009]" – a date which was both privately disclosed and publicly confirmed several times throughout last year before Yamauchi set the now-postponed Japanese release date for March of 2010. Nevertheless, his reputation unfortunately precedes him, making his comments all the more believable. For the rest of us, the release date drama continues…

If they pushed it to summer I would still be a happy guy, but now I'll have to wait for my Fall 2010 term to be over in order to play this?

i love gt series,but i hate this delay.we saw gameplay videos of this game during 3e 2005/2006 and the game is still not out?

I think that's still for Japan...So it might be longer for us over on the other side of the pond...

:( one of the few games that i'm excited about...ahhhhh. so happened i bought another xbox this weekend and it was bundled with f3. haven't even opened it as yet because i only wanted one racer. looks like that seal will be broken pretty soon :O after i get tired with bayonetta that is:P

Jesus.... Seriously just cancel the game.. My god sure you want the game to be good but when you delay it practically an entire consoles life cycle then you have a problem

Then launch title for PS4 with a completely redesigned engine utilizing dx12 and their 16 core cell cpu??? If this isn't out by September the latest I'm going to buy a 360 and Forza 3. I just recently bought a steering wheel for this when it was officially announced to be released this summer in Japan. Waste of $100 if you ask me.

How exactly does releasing the PS3's top exclusive during the beginning of the strongest retail period not make sense?

Yup. got the DF pro and its awesome. I used it on some PC sims, but pc sims aren't for me. To be completely honest I never once bought a GT game with the intentions of finishing it. I buy GT games to try out as many cars as I can rather than beat the game it's weird. Sometimes I even drive slowly(50-80 mph) and just observe my car. Weird **** I know. I do the same in Forza though, but I just l;ove the look of the cars in GT more and this long wait is killing me.

I bought a wheel for it, too. I could have put that money towards more games and bought the wheel later in the year if I'd have known about this crap.

It's a great wheel..Pound for pound yea can't beat it..

That makes no sence ...How do you know it's Sony and not Poly....

Why would Sony delay their largest exclusive franchise for a holiday sales rush? They are going to get that anyways with such an established franchise. It's not a new IP that could benefit from the season.

Every day the game is not on the shelf a flow of new capital is not earning interest or flowed into other investments. Thats the big picture...

The game is not done and nobody knows how far along they trully are...
