The trees look more 2D than ever. Check out 1:25. Even though Im not going to be driving up to trees to observe them, it does feel CHEAP that trees are two intersecting pieces of paper. I can see the game being marked down for this.

Thoughts?

it is plausible if people keep saying it is the best looking racing game around, many say that including PC games like Dirt 2 which in comparison to that vid looks much better.

Not a huge issue. I mean, its a racing sim, not a nature watch sim.

if you are going more than 20 mph, that argument is irrelevant as you wouldn't even notice. going 100mph+, you would only notice whats in front of you and whats in your mirrors.

Dirt has less cars racing at the same time and runs at a lower resolution/framerate compared to GT5 (at least on the PS3).

Yes, that really affects features and quality of the game itself. Its a racing sim. If this is the only thing people can complain about in GT5 then its fine. Have you seen some detailed info on what all features the game will have? I cant care less about crappy trees.

You do realize PCs don't have permanent frame-rates/Resolutions right? I don't have Dirt too but I'm sure I could pull 30 frames and 1200p easy with my GTX480.

I'm saying on PS3, Dirt 2 has better looking environments than GT5. Dirt 2 on 360 has better looking environments than Forza 3.Higher fps means less detail.

Well Dirt 2 is not the kind of racing game like GT5. The races are usually smaller for a reason. But you can find a race with a large amount of cars for the long distance ones.

I am talking about he PC version, which could handle many more cars if it wanted to and it can go well beyond 1080P.

I play on 1680x1050 and 8XCSAA which can make a big difference in some areas. Even going from 8XMSAA to 8XCSAA made a difference.

And I have it modded so it now has "ultra high" settings.

The pics he posted were definitely from the PC version, but even then, the PS3 version does have some pretty decent looking environments. Also, we haven't seen the final version of GT5 so there's a possibility that things may not look as bad as they do, but when I played the demo at Gamestop I was a but underwhelmed with Indy. The Ring, Toscana, and Rome looked pretty decent though.

Yeah but as someone who owns Dirt 2 for the PS3 the pics you posted weren't a fair comparison to GT5. I think both games have their pros and cons, and Dirt 2 is actually a lot of fun, especially with a wheel, but at the end of the day I find GT5 to be far more ambitious and graphically superior to Dirt 2 on the ps3 (which it should be after its development time).

Everyone keeps saying that when your racing you won't see those trees, very true. I promise your notice how bad they look when your watching the replay though.

I thought GT5 was photorealistic? the best looking game ever? nothing can compare to its awesomeness? but the second someone does find fault, its excuses, excuses, excuses.

Meh, trees are trees. It's not going to bother me. The only thing i didn't like was the sparks flying off the car when it hit a wooden fence. Even then, hardly terrible.

the trees don't bother me, but it is a problem given all the bragging around here about how GT5 is the best looking game or best looking racing game. every little detail makes a difference. if a game does more realistic backgrounds then it will be applauded for it. i want to see people run with terror on their faces if a car goes out of control and blasts into the crowd. if it's a cirucit race, maybe they could have a helicopter show up a few laps later and it would be flying off the injured people :).
