I still think Dirt 2 has better car models and everything else in graphics.

can you tell me which version is this please? This is DiRT 2 for PC. 1920x1200, 60+ FPS, Direct X11, Ultra Settings. Haven't looked for mods yet, though I've seen some awesome dust and lighting mods.johny300

I am using those plus the "Ultra High" mod.
I am using those plus the "Ultra High" mod.Hakkai007That mod doesn't have anything to do with textures or what not though... just affects the dust and stuff, right?

Not sure I didn't really compare. But there were like 4-5 settings that had ultra high selectable.
I kept vehicle reflections at ultra because if I go to ultra high it would dramatically lower fps.

They must have screwed up with the naming then.
8XCSAA is listed after 8XMSAA and is harder on performance it also looks better.
this is how it is listed in the settings.
2MSAA -> 4xMSAA -> 8XMSAA -> 8XCSAA -> 16XCSAA -> 8XQCSAA
Hakkai007
No, 8xCSAA is worse than 8xMSAA.
True 8x Multisampling (8xQ) is better than 8x CSAA and usually slightly worse than 16xCSAA (each of which only use 4x Multisampling.) Unlike 8xCSAA, 8xQ does not use any coverage samples..it is pure multisampling.
Quality-wise, AA levels would be listed something like this:
4x4SSAA > 3x3SSAA> 32xS > 16xS > 8xSQ > 2x2SSAA > 32xQCSAA > 32xCSAA > 16xQCSAA > 16xCSAA > 8xQ > 8xCSAA > 4xMSAA > 2xMSAA
Hmm then the gaming developers are dumber than you and messed up on the AA order. They should get fired and you should take their job. ^^
Ok ill try to clear this up. 8xCSAA is basically a 4xMSAA color sampling with what could be considered and edge blur, it is not as effective as true 8xMSAA since the 8xcsaa keeps the same color information as 4xMSAA would then blurs the edge more or less, whereas 8xMSAA would calculate the final pixel color more effectively, and doesnt have as many errors as 8xcsaa due to the less acurate 4xmsaa base. 8xCSAA can be considered on par only when considering certain types of assets like ropes and the such.

I know I was agreeing with you.
The devs forgot to switch the two AA version.
SO when I selected 8XCSAA I was actually using 8XMSAA.
Dirt 2 has nice graphics but only the PC version is comparable to GT5.......not to mention there's only like 5 rally cars i actually liked in the game so...............................ill go with GT5's superior lighting engine, dirt 2 also has a piss yellow filter which works for the game
Trees in a racing game are you freaking serious..........lol alot of peeps are scared of the GT5 monster apparently...........it reminds me of Halo Reach kinda of
Dirt 2 actually looks really good even on the 360 you be surprised at how good it looks compared to the PC version. PC version obviously looks better, but its not really a night and day difference. As for GT5 I have not played it, but from the videos I have seen its hard to compare the 2 as GT5 has a more realistic look to it.

There are mods which remove that filter.
And I think Dirt2 will have superior lighting.
its official 2D trees ruin racing games.... ohh well am sure 2D trees wont change the fun i'll have racing cars in GT5 offline & online :) G27 wheel is next in my shopping list :P
The only 2D foliage that I noticed were the bushes around the house.
Were the trees really 2D?
I never even saw it.
It sucks when you play a game like oblivion and notice that the bushes turn with the camera :P I have that sometimes and then I can't stop noticing it, breaking the game experience completely.
am I the only one confused that a game in development this long has concrete hay stacks and fences that appear to be mesh/ropes yet these items appear to be stronger than titanium and also have the unfortunate effect of melting cars. Hat off to PD for offering a full package in terms of modes etc. and some seriously pretty car models but in all honesty can we admit from what has been shown there are clearly some issues present.

or you could just ask PD to stop concentrating on all these aspects and focus on highly detailed trees :)since that will make your racing exereince better in the game that is supposed to deliver a nice and smooth racing expereince :)

It's true, they do look very 2D however it's not like I won't enjoy the game because of how the tree's look like.:?

How does a thread like this garner 132 responses? I mean, really? 2D trees??? I for one am not going to be looking at the damn trees. The developer knows this, they have priorities, and creating every single leave on every single branch on a tree that'll be flying by at 200 mph probably doesn't rank too high up on their priority scale.
I think so, the G27 has clutch too and I have heard good things about the G25 so... G27 (h shifter only, better build quality) > G25 (sequential an h shifter) > DFGT (sequential, no clutch)[QUOTE="iMojo786_PSN"]

That's why you clearly didn't see the 3D trees. The Cell is too complex to handle 3D trees

Gran Turismo 5's damage is better than forza 3, so if GT5's damage looks "bad", then forzas damage looks like doodoo
iBear-
Forzas damage wooped that ****. GT's looked terrible from that video.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C04fLAsGay4 The paint came right off, lol.if you are going more than 20 mph, that argument is irrelevant as you wouldn't even notice. going 100mph+, you would only notice whats in front of you and whats in your mirrors.antifanboyftwI would agree in other games but GT5 looks to give a pretty naff sense of speed because it doesn't use any post processing like Dirt or NFS do. I do however agree that you're not exactly going to be staring at trees and that your focus is rarely going to stray from the road. The main problem with this game is they used up all their polygons on the cars, didn't they say the cars have up to 500,000 polygons? That's a hell of a lot, if I made 8 spheres that were 500,000 poly's and put it in an Unreal level the game would lag when you went past them. That's why the backgrounds look, and I know people will argue but you've got to be blind not to see it, pretty bad.

I never said GT5 was bad I'm just saying ppl should expect nerdy arguements on gamespot. It is a gaming site after all. AND BTW GT5 and Infamouse 2 are both the reasons I'm getting PS3
