lol, what you guys think about that? I thought they were finally gonna get rid of them, or at least not include the PS2 cars. PD are nuts, it's like they want to kill the Gran Turismo franchise. GT6 has been a flop, the lowest selling GT game to date and by a lot. Only 2 mere millions when this franchise tends to sell 10+ and even the demo sold 5+!

Oh god why...

Though he didn't explicitly say "ps2 and ps3 cars" he simply said "standard cars". Maybe it'll be different this time, hopefully.

I don't know why they're so set on including so many damn cars. It's not needed at all. This is just stupid.

"Each car has its own fans. So I think we'll hang on to the archive. In the meanwhile, some of those cars we may be able to make into Premium cars as they become available - but basically we're more focussed on increasing the number of premium cars."

Sounds good to me.

The ps3 cars would work great. They were already too much for the PS3 to handle in game play so they would be at home on PS4. I don't understand why they would want to use PS2 cars still

Polyphony does a lot of things right with the Gran Turismo series, this, however, is one thing they do incredibly wrong.

what a shame a once great franchise has turned into such a joke.

times have changed but gt never has and is currently in a rut so deep they can't climb out.

all that is left is a brand name.

But wait! I care not at all for racing sims to begin with.

I tried getting into the series and found it pretty boring. That goes for car simulators in general though. I much prefer arcade racers.

"some of those cars we may be able to make into Premium cars" That sounds good to you?

Of the 1197 cars in GT6 ~797 of them are the Standard model. I'm just curious, would you rather have just 400-600 Premium cars or all 1200 Premium and Standard cars?

In my opinion, Polyphony needs to axe all standard cars and focus more on laser scanning the tracks. So far they have Bathurst scanned, but really need to have all their tracks scanned for GT7.

It's sad how far GT quality control has dipped.

Less cars, more quality, PD. A more streamlined GT game would do the series a lot of good.

GT has been going downhill since 3 was released. I don't need 150 different 1980-2000 Honda civics. Went do I want to simulate driving a car I owned when I was 16 (if you consider bumper car mechanics simulation) GT loves of name alone and Forza has outclassed it since day 1. It's a shame because I used to love gt.

I really don't understand the mindset that is predominant here. Do you guys refuse to buy any game that comes with a freebie bonus of the previous game because hey the previous game looks worse, because that is basically what you are *bleep*ing about. It is not like they are redoing the model just to make them old again wasting significant time, they are dragging and dropping them into the new game.

Sounds good to me as well. Not sure what everybody else's confusion is. Unless they are just your typical lem trying to bash on the PS4 for something they clearly don't understand. I bet most that responded weren't even bright enough to read the damn article before responding.

@elpresador-911: Just my two cents. Metacritic is not the Judge, Jury and Executioner of Games.

I could argue Forza outsold Gran Turismo...Does not mean it's better or worse. But it did outsell it.

Or, they could maintain a consistent visual standard and use only PS4 models.

I'm still amazed that they haven't just modeled a single of each type of car (i.e. a Nissan GTR R34) and put on visual modifications to change what kind it is (i.e. Mine's, Tommi Kaira, racing, V-spec, V-spec II, etc). It's really fucking dumb that they include 40 different models of the same car, but skip others for the upgrade.

Exactly.

The game doesn't need 1500 cars, with 1000 of them being inferior.

The PS3 cars are probably 100% fine (since they were already modeled well above the actual PS3 game-engine). However the PS2 cars need to be totally gone.

I hope they leave standard cars out for GT7. The next game should be about the future of the series, pushing the PS4 to the limit, the new partnership with the FIA, delivering dem graphics. I just don't see a place for standard cars in any of that. It would suit to add some favoured standards as premium overtime.

They already killed it. I adored GT back on PS2 but Forza simply raped it this last gen, and Forza 5 (despite it's flaws) is still better than any GT game. Shame they can't resurrect for PS4 glory.

You do realise the alternative to only having 'premium' cars is removing all the 'standard' cars right? They are not going to magically make all cars into premium GT5/6 or better models with all 800 cars not modeled. Didn't they say it takes one month per person to create one car to the final premium version, so to create 800 cars they would require 800 months of man hours just for the car models alone. Wikipedia puts their employe numbers at ~140 which probably includes the tea lady as well... but even so it would take 6 months of doing nothing but car models with all of their employees to get that done, not very realistic is it...

I think it's a good idea to include as many cars as they can and perhaps patch them later when they have the time to do it.

It's not going to work, you can't have a load of cars at current gen standard and a load at PS3 standard, it'll be obvious. What is it with quantity over quality. Is the 1000 car thing just a marketing thing? What is the benefit?

Or they could just scale back the number of cars, model them more efficiently, and have them all at the same visual standards. Y'know...like a normal developer.

Also just to add, I wish PD would stop wasting their time modeling concept cars that are total shite. Also they have premium version of cars for example the Mazda MX5, but then they put like 10 of them from different years in the game but only one is 'premium' when the car has not changed much at all from the first version. Why don't they just apply the premium model to all versions of the car, it's not like anyone is going to tell the difference anyway.

Another suggestion is to not bother accurately modeling all the interiors, create 10 or 20 generic interiors (racing modified, Rally, American, Japanese, European) with a few variations and apply them to every car that does not have an interior even if you have to stretch or shrink it a bit, it would be better than not having one at all. Or even better let the game have user modifications and let the community create the interiors, then each month select the best ones to be added to the game with an official patch and compensate the creators for their time.

That would be too awesome to ever happen though :(.

"model them more efficiently", what are you on about? How to you model something more efficiently?

You do understand all they are doing is simply copy and pasting the model from their archive into the new game/build. They probably already have all of the content from GT6 running in the newest build for PS4. It would make no sense to throw things away, you just build onto it. They had already upgraded some of the 'standard' cars to have a better poly count and higher res textures, it still does not count as premium as they didn't have interiors.

I'm all for upgrading what they currently have, I like to drive the shitty cars, winning races in cars I've never even heard of. It would be cool if they put trucks in the game too and maybe some other types of races such as road races where you go from point A to point B and have a 10 - 20 min race with no laps, kinda like the Nurburgring. That's the shit they should be concentrating on, and **** the Nascar...

Do it in a way that takes less time. As far as I know, Turn 10 doesn't take so ridiculously long to create their cars.

They probably do, they just outsource their modeling to third party agencies that specialize in doing things like that. While Turn 10 has about twice the total employees of PD, they contract probably twice that many to do modelling.

Polyphony needs to take that same approach if they want to continue to compete with Turn 10 or any other console racing "sim".

It would be nice if PD had more people working on the game, but it is what it is. 140 people is by no means a small studio though, **** knows how Turn 10 makes any money employing >300 people to make one game that only has an appeal for racing fans, probably why they make an arcade version of it and rename it to Horizon.
