GTA 5 may be a PS3 exclusive.

After the success of GTA IV and L&D on Xbox 360, Rockstar would be losing out in a big, BIG, way.

Rockstar has stated that they will not be able to pull off the next Grand Theft Auto due to the struggles with Grand Theft Auto IV (source) on a disc that holds only 8.54 GB compared to a Blu-ray that is currently holding 50 GB. This may harm them in the long run because you see developers now a days wanting to expand their games while saving as much money as they can. Making a game on a Hi-Definition Blu- ray disc not only allows for more uncompressed raw data and more audio support, it also benefits the developer at cutting cost of production.

John Carmack, game programmer and co-founder of id Software, has brought this up many times relating to his upcoming title, Rage. He has stated thatin order to put the game onto the Xbox 360 and have it look identical to the PlayStation 3 version, they would need to put it on about four discs which would cost them a lot in production costs.He also stated thatif Microsoft does not allow for them to put this game on four discs without charging them extra, he will have to compress the game massively to have it fit on two discs degrading the visuals of the game.Developers will adopt Blu-ray because of advantages in size, as well as price. Who would not want to make a larger, cheaper game?

Didn't Square-Enix say that about Final fanatsy XIII "only possible on the PS3",How did that turn out again?king_A-Hole

We don't know yet since they won't start working on the 360 port until after they finish the PS3 version. It is unknown how much they will have to compress the game, if at all, if anything has to be cut out, etc.

If GTA 4 sold the most on 360 why would R* not make the next one on 360, even if it took up 2 discs.

That's the end of it imo.

Edit: In the long run, I see no reason why R* would sacrifice 50%+ extra sales for a bigger map or whatever else Blu-Ray would do for GTA 5.

I mean seriously though you think since GTA4 sold more on the 360 then on the PS3 that the next one they will choose to go where they made less money?Ya great idea make the next game exclusivly for the console that sold the less amount of software.

Yeah I read somewhere that R* was only going to allow left handed people to buy the next GTA because the control scheme they want to implement works better for leftys. They said they're not bothered about sales or profits.

Interesting side note though: A higher percentage of PS3 owners bought GTA4. Of course 360 has a higher install base.

giving up what could possibly be over 7 mil in sales don't sound good unless it really cant be done on the system. For a GTA game, I doubt that.

Judging on your level, I doubt you really know what went down in System Wars with the hype of GTAIV or the final result after the release.

I wasn't around much either, so I wouldn't know much, nor did I care.

However, to this day, you still see some dislike for the game, from both sides.

As long as it actually comes out for PS3.

i know the ps3 overall has a longer lifespan then the 360, but rockstar don't rush games,

I can honestly not see the next gta for at least 3-4 years, in that time I expect a new console from microsoft would be well on its way.

so the talk of blu-ray being the ultimate thing for the future of gaming and john carmacks moaning is crap, i think the future lies with digital downloads and possibly installing games to hard drives like you do with a PC, im already installing games to my 360 to benefit from faster load times and less pop up.

so imo extra large hard drives are a must for the next generation of consoles.
