A lot of people are complaining that Nintendo caters way to much for the kids market. Although it is not true, and in reality they are trying to do the opposite, I understand why people will say that.
I mean, who else will do a Happy Meal to promote their newest Mario Kart?
And Nintendo has risen a miscomptention to people who don't play games to think that gaming is for kids.
But contrary to these photos, the reality is far more disturbing and far more horrible. Kids are not playing Mario anymore. Kids are not playing Zelda anymore. Kids aren't even playing Sonic anymore (although that is understandable).
Kids today are way too "self-consious" to play something like that. All they want to play is the "mature" games. Games that adults "supposedly" play.
Enter Grand Theft Auto. Thanks to Sony's PlayStation 2, a whole new generation of kids have access to very violent games. The most popular of them is the landmark GTA series.
This literally is what kids are playing these days. Just go to a game store or your local Wal*Mart. Besides GBA games, the games that parents are buying for their kids is GTA. GTA games sold best at Wal*Mart. And don't say that it's the parents that are playing the game, it was the kids who pointed it out to them. Those parents know absolutely nothing about games.
I even stopped one of them from buying the game by asking them what the game was about. After explaining, they quickly left the game and punished their 8-9 year old son. Unbelievable.
Only kids are the one who want to look mature playing games. Real mature gamers don't care how colorfull the game is. They care how good the game is.
The Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker. A true mature game.
So if you diss a game just because it looks kiddy, you may want to take that back. Because only kids will think that is for kids.
