The game was in development just after GTA: SA launched. They would have known exactly what they were creating long before the Xbox 360 and PS3 had their full specs out.
GTA 4 was always going to be one city.Â
Isn't it ridiculous to claim the PS3 version will be worse just because the game was shown off on the 360 first?the-very-best
Â
Actually, thats even more ridiculous.Â
You are all idiots if you actually believe that line of cow snot. And so is anyone who only reads the thread title and ignores this ONE LINE post. That includes cows and lemmings.mjarantilla
Â
i would have to go with GTA4 being smaller than san andreas because it was tedious driving (or flying) over all that open countryside to get to placesÂ
Isn't it ridiculous to claim the PS3 version will be worse just because the game was shown off on the 360 first?the-very-bestBoth claims are dumb. We need to wait to see more then a trailer before we say anything close to stuff like that. Both will at very least IMO be close to eachother.

they have said its smaller than SA.Â
I'm not questioning the truth of this but does anyone have a link so I can read what was said?

Here's the GS new article about it: GTAIV details.
And brief summary from GTA legends union newsletter:
» The protagonist's name is Niko Bellic - an Eastern European immigrant who has come to Liberty City to live the "American Dream." The game is set in Liberty City in 2007, but it is bigger than the Liberty City we saw in GTA III.
» The GTA 4 equivalent of the Statue of Liberty is called the Statue of Happiness... Broker is the GTA IV equivalent of Brooklyn, Manhattan is now called Algonquin, Queens is now Dukes, the Bronx is Bohan, and New Jersey is Alderney. The map is smaller than San Andreas, but considerably more detailed. No countryside or desert, we are led to believe.
» Rockstar is giving its players more freedom, more choice, and more sense of control over their destiny - the structure of GTA4's storyline is quite different to it's predecessors as it can be told in a number of different ways. You can talk to people in person, by cell phones, and there are a bunch of other ways of giving the player information... In previous GTA games you were like a slave because you had to constantly take orders from people when doing missions. There is still an element of that in Grand Theft Auto 4, but you can also choose how you want to spend your time...
» There are no planes in GTA IV because there is only one city, and Rockstar want the game to seem realistic. That means there will be no rollerblades, no unicycles, probably no jetpacks and indeed no planes. Rockstar are giving choice and variety which feels right for the character. However there will be motorbikes.
» After an initial load sequence, the game will never load again. Not even during exterior-interior transitions (and vice versa).
» Both versions of the game (Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3) will likely be identical, but the Xbox 360 version will have exclusive downloadable episodic (sizeable) content. Rockstar have now spent over 3 years developing the game, and Dan Houser compares the leap from GTA III to GTA IV, to the leap from GTA to GTA III.
» GTA IV will have multiplayer, but it's not going to be a massively multiplayer online game, says Dan Houser. They are trying to make something that is interesting, fun, progressive and which goes along nicely with the single-player game.

Disappointed about the size but that sounds promising. I'm not really looking for another SA with better graphics anyway, so I'm willing to give them a chance but I do have high expectations.

SA was too big for me anyway. There was a freaking interstate on that sob.that is so silly if people believe that. probably insecure PS3 owners.
Â
AND: New York is pretty big........Â
im guessing rockstar want a more focused well realised single city, san andreas had to be huge for them to one up themselfs from the previous games, making a state sized map with the kinda detail shown in the GTA IV trailer would have been a astronomical undertaking there's no hardware issues at play here its more i a time/design thing id say

GTA4 was desighned for DVD 9 not blu-ray there for meaning xbox360 did not downgrade gta4 in anyway however if gta 4 was desighned for blu-ray then you could say xbox360 is limited to one city but it doesnt matter because GTA4 was made and formatted for DVD 9
Get over it
At 309 square miles, New York City is the largest city in the United States, and one of the largest in the world. If anything the game will be bigger than GTA:SAjustforlotr2004
Its been confirmed that the world will be smaller then its previous game.
To keep all realism in play here, I have to say that I do not believe 360 is making this game smaller because of the DVD9. I think it this way because its the first GTA on the next gen consoles. There was a lot to do to get the game so it could release on both consoles at the same time.
Now, GTA 5 may be a different story. It remains to be seen.

The problem with this statement is that LA is also a large city and SA also incorporated San Fran and Vegas. So, I'm not to sure you're right.

PC can install a large section of the game on a hard drive. Big difference between that and the 360. You can't argue that.

Â
Isn't Tango a joke. We all know that's not true. That all of the multiplats, thus far, have looked identical.
Who ever made up this whole "GTA 4 is smaller than GTA SA because of the 360's DVD9" is an idiot...
The only reason this game will be smaller is if the developers want it ot be that way, not because of the DVD9. Isn't DVD9 superior to the PS2's DVD? Thats the only way it can be force to be smaller than GTA SA, is if it was Inferior to it.
Now stop these foolish threads. NOW!

Like i just said in another thread. How if 360 is holding back GTA are they getting in Rockstars own words Xbox 360 version will have EXCLUSIVE downlowdable episodic (SIZEABLE) content.? So if the Sony fanboys are right how could 360 have room for this sizeable content?

I wish people would stop saying crap like this. The games don't look worse on the PS3, the differences are marginal at best going either way. Definitely not enough of a difference to say that it looks WORSE. That's a pretty strong word and it is just as inaccurate when the cows say the 360 version of Oblivion looks worse than the PS3 version. If you have to look hard to find the differences, it isn't even worth discussing.[QUOTE="Eltroz"]» Both versions of the game (Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3) will likely be identical, but the Xbox 360 version will have exclusive downloadable episodic (sizeable) content. Missed the point. I just want a fanboy to explain how GTA could not make the game any bigger because of the 360 cause of lack of blue-ray but yet there is still room for sizeable content? Since they keep saying thatAt 309 square miles, New York City is the largest city in the United States, and one of the largest in the world. justforlotr2004
No it isnt. Not even close.
Sitka, Alaska is the largest (at 2874 square miles).
Jacksonville, Florida is the largest city in area in the contiguous 48 states at 758 square miles.

What kind of question is this? It makes no sense. They put games on DVD9 because there's nearly no one who has a blu-ray drive on their pC and HD-DVD isn;t available yet. What else would they put PC games on? What a jack.

It looks like they did answer your question with a valid point. But why dont you give us the answer you were looking for.
I'm glad it's just one city. GTA had this problem of "Hey, if we make it bigger, we don't have to make it better! That play is FLAWLESS!!!"
Neither Vice City nor San Andreas actually played better, or any different, than GTA3. GTA4 is going to have to do some things different if it's going to be worth my money.

Are you kidding? You have to be. Your answer was what i already said. READ, little guy, READ!!! I told YOU that no one had the blu-ray or HD-DVD drives.

And to your new question: "How many PC games ship on multiple DVD9s?" Probably not very many, any more. I think that now that most people have PC's in the GB and not the MB that developers take advantage of the PC's hard drive. Which I already stated earlier.
You have a particluar point you're trying to prove and its failing, hard. Why don;t you take a little break, take adeep breath, and tell yourself, "I'm a good person, I'm good looking, and darnit, people love me." Then come back and see if you can make some sense.

Oh man....the courage online anonymity gives you is downright hilarious! Yup, typical cow. :)
All that ranting and still no answer to my original question: Do you know why PC games install info on the HDD yet still ship on a single DVD9?
Is it because DVD9 is not enough? Or because the HDD's speed is far greater than an optical disc speed?
