Well, first it was Ubicrap with FC4, now is Rockstar with a new patch
- Worse Anisotropic filtering
- Parallax Occlusion reduced (dirt, rocks, gravel...)
- More pop-in
- Worse draw distance (blurrier)
- Vehicle collision system nerfed

This is why I am buying it on PC. Plus I am interested in what the modding community will come out with. They turned GTA4 into a great game.
Yeah I saw the thread on Gaf. Those collisions lol. If only I had the willpower to wait for the PC version.
But really, why were those graphical settings there in the first place? The framerate was garbage on the PS4 version (which I own) before the patch. I haven't played since the patch but I assume it performs better. I will check the Heist stuff out this weekend and find out I guess.
this is the only way to make pc games look better dump down console games..
this is the new practice by nvidia, our 900+ $ cards do not show why overhyped pc has better gfx lets give rockstar money and dump down console games. "now pc looks better in side by side comparisons"
Who cares. It's 2015.
The only thing that's dumbed down are hermits, getting hyped on late as games lol.
what was the point though? game is already released so why downgrading?
Frame rates.
I already skipped this game on the PS3 and PS4, not even sure if I'll pick it up on PC.. but damn if do, talk about being worth the wait lol.
Shit game or not, modded GTA4 was running circles around this before the current consoles even released.
See, that's how you do a comparison: you compare the same spots at the same time of day and point out clear differences.
Game sucks regardless.
...The car damage looks better in the update though, at least from the demonstration.
@EducatingU_PCMR: Thank you, I get more and more convinced to go PC for multiplats every time I come to this forum.
Sadly, this will affect PC version too.
Not if modders have anything to say about it.
Still sucks though. But you are right.
I hope digital foundry can check the framerate, i hope there's something worthwhile coming out of the downgrade. I've certainly not had the game chugging any more when driving which might explain this.
Welp. Compromising is part of the package when it comes to consoles.
ive never seen a PC game update where it made the game worse tho wtf is going on here
Well you haven't been paying attention because it's not that uncommon in PC games
if you think that is sad i hear there is a site where people go to argue about cheap little toys you hook up to a tv then pc fanboys show up to talk about how much better games are when you spend 3 times as much money on them.
Seriously what the **** is Rockstar doing?! Instead of fixing their god-awful servers and broken Online they're taking out things?
inb4 a blind fanboy stating "it looks even better or perfectly fine"
it looks even better and is perfectly fine
Lolz. I see what you did there, Heils.

:P I'll try the game after patch, but in all honesty I'm sure its quite playable. I was amazed with what they got out of the 360.
They must be trying to improve overall framerate. Parallex Occlusion Mapping is a pretty intensive process. I was surprised to see so much of it in the PS4 build. Seems it's all gone now.
That or they accidentally removed it while working on the renderer. Who knows.
That's pretty sad and unexplainable. It looks more like the PS3 version now, except for the resolution. I mean, if it's only in the online I get it, there it's important to improve performance and maybe adding other gameplay features that sucks up processing. But touching the singleplayer is pretty stupid. Is it to get more people to buy the PC version because of the graphics??

It's better to play since the downgrades, framerates are noticeably smoother now compared to how it was at the expense of some eye candy.
@Cloud_imperium: It ran fine on consoles, in all honesty. To be honest I wouldn't be surprised if they did it to sell the PC version.
How?, it's gonna run at much higher resolutions/graphical settings and at much higher framerates on PCs anyway and PC gamers know this so how would slightly lowering graphical quality on consoles help sell PC copies?.
Do you think they're trying to force console gamers to start PC gaming?.
