GTA4 biggest disappointment of the year?

Initially I was pretty disappointed but after playing it agian I understand why it got the 10's from every site. Instead of trying to out do Crackdown, Saints Row, or even their own San Andros, they instead reinvented the wheel agian similar to Vice City and the GTA 3 series. GTA 4 just simply changes how we view sandbox games and puts in the middle of something very linier like Mafia for the PC and something very open world like GTA and spun it with a more realistic tone. What you get is essentially a game version of The Godfather (and not that EA game thats different) Where it's more of a crime drama then anything else. You get seriosly involved with the characters in the game by going out on dates with them or hanging out. This may seem a little gimmicky at first but once you hit the point where you have to choose who lives or dies, it makes those decisions very tough because you know both of these characters really well and somethimes you wish there was another way. I'll be honost that I drove for 30 minutes at the end of the game just thinking which choice I wanted to make, and thinking about it really hard, and no game has really done that to the very extent of GTA where you feel as these choices have very big impact on whats going to happen next. Simply put if you were looking for a sandboxy kinda wacky fun game, you were looking in the wrong direction. GTA 4 is simply Rockstars reply saying "We don't outdo our compitition, we just change the playing field." And by doing this they made their game simply timeless.

Anyone can put more features or more options or more cars, guns, explosions, ect. ect. in their free roaming game than GTA 4, but it takes real talent and real skill to out do GTA 4's characters, story, execution, and dialog. In doing that, it means that GTA 4 is not fantastic because it puts more stuff then the next guy, it does more to games and how games are shown then the next guy, and for that it will become one of the greatest games of all time.

For the people that feel that GTA 4 is not good because it doesn't have that wacky fun flavor, all i have to say is that you aren't sophisticated enough to appreciate what it does. And that is prefectly fine, but for me and I think a lot of reviewers, it more than explosions, guns, millitary vehicles that makes a fantastic action adventure as GTA 4.

GTAIV is far from being the biggest disappointment of '08.

Its popular. We as a generation love putting things on pedestals only to take joy in knocking them down. And not just in gaming. In just about everything.

Biggest disappointment would have to go to Too Human. Perhaps the biggest disappointment of the century.

no, leave it there. The game got a 10 and is beatable in 14hrs. All I could of done was go on YT and watch all the vid in the game because most of my time I was watching then actually playing the game.

am i the only one here who absolutely loves the online in gta? Its soo awesome! and the euphoria physics just make everything seem like more believable like im really running around the streets of new york in a gang fight or somethingVendettaRed07

nope! i love it too. And GTA4 and MGS4 have been the most satisfying games for me this gen. So absolutely no disappointment here.

yea its fun but i hate when people set it to the entire map because most just stay on one side. Also I wish R* can update to allow at least 32 players online.

I'm sorry, that game deserved its 10.0, just because you could not have as much fun in the world as say GTA:SA does not make it a bad game. Rockstar did a great job of presenting, laying out a deep world with a great, humorous storyline filled with lots of satire.

If it's not as good as the game before it then it definently means it doesn't deserve a 10 as it doesn't move the series forward but backwards.

That story mode was terrible. It was a joke that they even incorporated that in there. It should've been the same old with new characters and maps.

yeah ive never understood as to why people use that as a reason as to why they didnt like brawl, its like saying you hate metal gear solid 4 because you dont like metal gear online

and its single player was awesome, and you could link it up to 4 other xboxs for 16 players

Halo 3 was a pretty dissapointing game.

Even Halo die hard fans are saying it's not as good as it should be. Such a shame, seems like MS rushed Bungie to get the game out so that sales of 360 will rise.

No, no, and no. That definitely goes to Spore. Nothing even comes close to the amount of failed promises in Spore. When you hype it as the best game, ever, AAAA, and GOTY, and then it gets an undeserved 8, you know you have a bad game. Any game as boring as Spore is lucky to get an 8.

I didn't expect much out of Spore, and I was still disappointed when I got it. But for me, personally, Audiosurf was a bigger disappointment. It fails on so many levels.

No More Heroes exceeded my expectations, and Super Smash Brothers Brawl met my expectations.

Wow, I only bought four games from 2008. I bought more games this year, but they were all from 1998, 2001, 2003, 2004, 2005, and such. Heh... I'm really surprised. I think that's it for me, but that's because I'm low on cash. I want to buy Mario Kart Wii, Boom Blox, Blast Works, de Blob, and such, but I'm really low on money. Plus, I still have three more weeks left of football, so I don't have much time.
