480 gtx might beat ati with x4 anti aliasing you crank up the anti aliasing to x8 or x16 ati's gonna win.
[QUOTE="Killfox"]I still will not buy one. They are going to be hella expensive. Would rather just wait it out and see what ATIs next line are cards will be so top these. Or ill just buy one of ATIs cards now after they drop in price because of this.Animal-Motherya new cards are really expensive. I think i'm just gonna buy a new power supply and double up my 4850's
Not to mention its completely unneccessary.. A 4850 is more then enough to play at high or max out every game out there right now..
What happened to the GTX 3 series? They went straight from 2 to 4.
Anyways, i'm more interested in the mid range cards in the series, generally the mid range card in a new series is about equal to a higher end card in the previous series, but smaller and with less power required.
[QUOTE="Baranga"]Price point hasn't been given yet but Nvidia said it cost less than what the GTX 2xx series did when it launched but the rumoured prices are $299 for GTX 470 and $399 for the 480 to stay competitive in pricing with ATi.How much will it cost?

The thing that I dont like is that these will run hot, have rediculous wattage, and is it going to have a good price to performance ratio. I want to see benchmarks with these cards. If these cards do turn out good Ill wait for second generation cards hoping that they will require less watts and run a lot cooler. How are you supposed to overclock something thats already running super hot???Killfoxyou have ati at your sig if your opinion would be objective

A 600W power supply? Damn... imagine running SLI with 3 of those along with a heavy duty I7, and everything overclocked. You'd need a goddamn seperate fission reactor

When you have a PS3/360/Wii, what do you buy? Yeah, I'll be be getting one of these come summer.3 series is out right now, and it's just some low end model cards, they came, everyone said "WTF" and then moved on.What happened to the GTX 3 series? They went straight from 2 to 4.

It makes displaying two or three screens much less taxing on a system for one thing. It will also help boost performance obviously.

And this is why people should NOT listen to the people who post "OmgZ new video card out it owns so much!".. IT ISN'T neccesary right now.. Radeon 4850 or 4870 that can be gotten for around $100 to $140 can play EVERY game including Crysis at high to very high settings.. It is absolutely unneccesary and a waste of money on why you would buy these cards..
[QUOTE="Instashot"]Whole new architecture.psn8214
Exactly why I am excited.
The architecture isn't necessarily the best thing for gaming though. All that it does is tessellation on top of tessellation. I have my doubts this will be that good of a card. It's basically a stripped down CAD card nvidia is trying to tout as a gaming gpu if you really think about it. I kind of hope it turns out really good though. I wouldn't want another monopoly in the GPU market going on like there was from 2006 till 2009.
Serious question since i plan on eventually upgrading from my 4870. Whats the differance between the gtx 480 and the 5970? I planned on the 5970 if it fits in my antec 900 lol.

yeah i agree i'm fine with my 4870 for the time being there are no longer a large amount of graphically demanding games that would make me want to upgrade. I plan on upgrading about a year after the nextgen consoles comeout(so anywhere from 3 to 5 years) so i can end up with more powerful hardware then the consoles and all that power will actually be taken advantage of by games.
the only reason i can see my self upgrading before that would be if i ended up going with a 30" monitor or triple monitor gaming where i would actually need that extra gpu power.

Would that be the case though.. 30" monitor screens fall into either two catagories.. A) Graphical development not meant for gaming.. or B) They are a HD tv that will either be a 720p or 1080p.. People need to stop with this false perception.. a E4300 CORE 2 DUO I have overclocked at a mere 2.25 ghz (from 1.8ghz) a cpu that costs around $50 or less.. I can play every game including Crysis at high to very high settings.. People need to stop getting hung up with these hardware techs, it gives a false perception.. As it stands since Crysis, graphic tech has pretty much been on a stand still.. If your able to play Crysis well yoru able to play any game well.. Fortunately Crysis is able to be played well on high to very high settings to what we would consider low to medium system specs.. a 4850or 4870 for instance would be considered low or medium spec at ranging from $100 to $150.. E4300 Core 2 Duo is most defintiely low spec.. 4gb DDr2 ram is cheap as hell.. These are the primary components and they are all dirt cheap to get and will play 95% of all games out there at MAX settings and the other 5% at extremely high settings... This is why I want to smack the people who post these kinds of things like "OMGZ a 480 GTX came out".. Yeah because clearly we really need to see games played at resolutions that would make graphical designers blush.

.. Don't waste your money.. As it stands a 4870 can play every game extremely well.. And you would be more or less throwing away a few hundred to a half a grand for a minimal increase in performance/visual quality.

Agreed. My 8400GS which I got for $30(half the price of a new game) can run Crysis(on low, but it still runs). I do plan on upgrading soon, but most likely to a 4870, or maybe a 5770 if I get the money(for DX11)
you have ati at your sig if your opinion would be objective First of all I can barely understand what you even just said there. Anyways, I had only nvidia cards until I had gotten my 4870. So Ive owned 3 different nvidia cards. I have no bias what so ever. I like my cards to run cool, not have high wattage, good OC ability, good price to performance, and be relatively cheap for a video card. I dont see how I am being objective. I have a certain criteria I would like to meet when I buy a new card.[QUOTE="Killfox"]The thing that I dont like is that these will run hot, have rediculous wattage, and is it going to have a good price to performance ratio. Not even. an 8800gt plays Crysis Vanilla on all high @ 16x10 resolution, and if you get CCC 2.1 mod, then very high settings (level4) with even better framerate. i am not even talking about other games which run perfectly fine with good resolutions and high settings. These cards are not necessary to play games with great graphics. But it is really nice to have one.[QUOTE="sSubZerOo"][QUOTE="CDUB316"]

But reduced returns you get for the dollar this gen when it comes to video cards have dropped to a all time low.. Where a card that you get for $150 you will not see a huge difference over a card you got for $400.. At least nothing compared to like 5 years or a decade ago.. Where if you got a medium or low quality card, you would be able to play most games on medium settings.. Now the medium and low cards you are able to play at high settings with high resolution..

I don't mean to get too off topic but, how well could I run modern games on this? I'm tired of my 8400GS. I can't even max out Counter-Strike: Source.

I use a 4850.. On games like Crysis I am on high and very high settings with 1680 x 1050 resolution though I don't both with AA on the game.. Using things like Cuban's mod which makes the game look better and run better.. I get usually 35 to 45 fps, this included with the motion blur it runs smooth as butter. Outside of that game I am able to max out or put everything on high.. And the things I can't max out often times are the things with minimal visual increase and a huge performance hit.. Such as Dawn of War 2's going from High to ultra settings which barely gives any notice.. For being the business mind though I would go with the 4870.. But in the end.. 8400 GS is a TRUE low quality card not meant for gaming.. 4850 or 4870 you will be able to play pretty much anything at high to max settings.. This is assuming of course your other parts are up to snuff too. Also I pretty much have that exact same card, except it came with the ICEQ 4 cooler on it instead of the default one that one is on.. with games like Mass Effect 2, able to max.. Same goes fo Dragon Age Origins.. I just tried out the demo of Empire Total War, ran smooth as butter with everything but one thing on high, and at 1680 x 1050.
why do some people here think its 600w just for the video card?

I am not sure thats what they mean, either way 600w powersupply requirement is pretty high..
