I am not sure thats what they mean, either way 600w powersupply requirement is pretty high..
i am sure that people with $600 dollar Dell computers wont be upgrading to high end Fermi... That has nothing to do about that, I can only imagine the kind of heat that thing draws.. And the energy draw.. Why would any one want something like that?
the high end gpu's are not for everyone, leave it at that.My next build with probably be with an ATI card. Nvidia seems to overprice everything they come up with, despite ATI releasing a card that performs similar for a hundred dollars less.

.. Currently this hardware advancement and software demand stagnation.. Is alot like driving a autobond car down roads of max speeds of 40mph..

If you have money to burn yes.. But reduced returns you get for the dollar this gen when it comes to video cards have dropped to a all time low.. Where a card that you get for $150 you will not see a huge difference over a card you got for $400.. At least nothing compared to like 5 years or a decade ago.. Where if you got a medium or low quality card, you would be able to play most games on medium settings.. Now the medium and low cards you are able to play at high settings with high resolution..

I don't mean to get too off topic but, how well could I run modern games on this? I'm tired of my 8400GS. I can't even max out Counter-Strike: Source.
I use a 4850.. On games like Crysis I am on high and very high settings with 1680 x 1050 resolution though I don't both with AA on the game.. Using things like Cuban's mod which makes the game look better and run better.. I get usually 35 to 45 fps, this included with the motion blur it runs smooth as butter. Outside of that game I am able to max out or put everything on high.. And the things I can't max out often times are the things with minimal visual increase and a huge performance hit.. Such as Dawn of War 2's going from High to ultra settings which barely gives any notice.. For being the business mind though I would go with the 4870.. But in the end.. 8400 GS is a TRUE low quality card not meant for gaming.. 4850 or 4870 you will be able to play pretty much anything at high to max settings.. This is assuming of course your other parts are up to snuff too. Also I pretty much have that exact same card, except it came with the ICEQ 4 cooler on it instead of the default one that one is on.. with games like Mass Effect 2, able to max.. Same goes fo Dragon Age Origins.. I just tried out the demo of Empire Total War, ran smooth as butter with everything but one thing on high, and at 1680 x 1050.
Thanks. What's a good price for a 4870? I found this one that looks pretty good.

Thats a pretty good deal when you take into the account that the HIS custom ICEQ 4 fan and cooler is one of the best out there.. The 4800 series main draw back is the fact it conducts alot of heat, my 4850 under that cooler usually never goes higher then 50 degree C, and I rarely ever see the fan working above 30%..
[QUOTE="Killfox"]I still will not buy one. They are going to be hella expensive. Would rather just wait it out and see what ATIs next line are cards will be so top these. Or ill just buy one of ATIs cards now after they drop in price because of this.Animal-Motherya new cards are really expensive. I think i'm just gonna buy a new power supply and double up my 4850's Not like that is a bad idea or anything. 4850s are not very $$$

Ok. I think I'll go with it. I don't feel like spending money on a new DX11 card. It's not like DX10 is obsolete and everything require 11. Of course, first things first I need to replace my power supply. I'm pretty sure it's 450W
Meh... you guys know the GTX470/480 has been getting negative publicity. The first batch will be sold at cheaper prices since it is such a failure. If you know the story, the architecture wasn't originally fit for gaming. I don't think I can even use it because I don't believe my psu has an available 8-pin connector.
I've actually heard from numerous sources that the GTX 470 will be $499, and the GTX 480 will be $699
the GTX 480 will probably way less powerful in comparison to ATI's 5970, but whatever.

It is bringing a hell of lot of new stuff to gaming, I'll give you a link....http://www.hardocp.com/article/2010/01/17/nvidias_fermi_gf100_facts_opinions/ This GPU can do Ray Tracing and much much more which is why it took a long time to develop. [QUOTE="SLIisaownsystem"]you have ati at your sig if your opinion would be objective First of all I can barely understand what you even just said there. Anyways, I had only nvidia cards until I had gotten my 4870. So Ive owned 3 different nvidia cards. I have no bias what so ever. I like my cards to run cool, not have high wattage, good OC ability, good price to performance, and be relatively cheap for a video card. I dont see how I am being objective. I have a certain criteria I would like to meet when I buy a new card. Yes, I'm considering jumping to ATI in future if the performance of their cards holds out over time since I really like their power-to-performance ratio. I can probably get one without having to upgrade my PSU and still be able to enjoy the new DX11 features.[QUOTE="Killfox"]The thing that I dont like is that these will run hot, have rediculous wattage, and is it going to have a good price to performance ratio. I want to see benchmarks with these cards. If these cards do turn out good Ill wait for second generation cards hoping that they will require less watts and run a lot cooler. How are you supposed to overclock something thats already running super hot???Killfox

A 600W power supply? Damn... imagine running SLI with 3 of those along with a heavy duty I7, and everything overclocked. You'd need a goddamn seperate fission reactor
R3FURBISHED
I realize I don't know too much about the PC gaming side of life, but what the hell are you going to need 3 of those damn cards for?
Crysis 2.... I'm only half joking

It's one of the things that concerns me. At least with the new ATI cards, they seem much more sensible on the power draw. I may consider an upgrade down the line when it isn't that expensive, but I think I'll double my RAM first (have the occasional game interference from outside issue which this should help alleviate).4 to 5 times more powerful than consoles. What games have we got to play that shows that power off that wont be some poorly optmised game cough cough..

lol dude u dont know what youre talking about
I wonder if ATI has some sort of suprise release as an answer, like a 5890 or something.Heyhuub
I could see that, but it isn't necessary. ATI is giving Nvidia a run for their money. They're not just trying defeat them, they want to completely murder them.
Any word on size? And if somebodies got their hands on it, any benchmarks/power consumption/heat? Im_single
No actual info yet, the pics were taken but they couldn't say anything about the card yet.

A hole in the PCB... Sure that helps the airflow, but why not have simply made that fan a bit bigger, like on the current gtx 200...
There is actually a thread started and has many replies "mine included" about a dumb graphics card box? oh brother....I feel I got sucked into this one somehow.....I must really be bord stiff.
you realize thats for the entire system not 600watts for the GPU exclusively. They just dont want people with a 300 watt PSU going and buyin the card when the powersupply outputs 200 to the board and components along the rails from the start. Its a failsafe. If you have a barebones rig you could easily get away with a 500 watt system.A 600W power supply? Damn... imagine running SLI with 3 of those along with a heavy duty I7, and everything overclocked.
