It's $90...yeah I know it comes with an ahem "guitar"...but I don't see the point of this game. People who have never taken guitar lessons aren't going to suddenly become guitar masters after playing it.  And when I see people playing it at the display case at my electronics store, I just LOL @ how ridiculous they look.  I even overheard one guy say to his friend who was watching him...."Dude, with enough practice on this, I'm going to be friggen (he used the real F word) amazing with the real thing and chicks will love me."

I think this game would get old really fast.  Listening to the same cover song over and over again just to get better with the "guitar".  I'm sure I'll never ever get tired of hearing the same tunes over and over again  Wow, I can press the corresponding buttons to match the notes needed...hmmm...sounds a lot like another game...what game could that be....hmmm...could it be Dance Dance Revolution?  Yep, that's it.  This is the "lazy" man's new Dance Dance Revolution...without nearly as much exercise.

Brain Age for DS got bashed from people because it wasn't considered a "real" game. It is a game teaches math skills and stuff and actually can help you improve those skills.  Guitar Hero 2, on the other hand, doesn't teach you how to play a real guitar...and it never gets bashed.  Interesting.  "But but but, it teaches you rhythm AvidGamer!"  Yeah, of course I'll find the rhythm of a song if I have to play it 500 times...

I'm sure I'm in the minority on this....because I've NEVER SEEN ONE THREAD that bashes this game.  So, I'm fully expecting to get a majority of replies that disagree with me (as usual).

"But but but, it teaches you rhythm AvidGamer!"  Yeah, of course I'll find the rhythm of a song if I have to play it 500 times...AvIdGaMeR444

If you only play games that teach you something, then your list of things to play must be very, very short.

It is overrated on PS2 also if it is on 360. Although GH is fun because it is just fun to pretend you are a rock star, but I suggest GH fans learn real guitar. Learning real guitar is much more satisfying than 5 Staring an Expert Song.

While I agree with you, not everyone can be a "guitar hero." I tried playing Guitar for a few years and just never really "got it." I'm pretty decent on the piano though. So I play piano, but when I feel like rocking out a guitar solo, Guitar Hero gives me that ability.

I'm not exactly a Guitar Hero nut, but for people who don't play instruments and want to rock along with their favorite songs, Guitar Hero definetely sounds appealing.

Do you know what 'fun' is? If so, I doubt you've even played Guitar Hero. I dunno, but it seems like you have some insecure predisposition towards popular things. You take jabs at things that look bad on paper and take things too seriously. A guy thinking he's going to be good at guitar by playing it? That's called an idiot. You just kinda have to ignore those. My advice -- get the first GH and play through the ranks yourself and tell me that it's the lazy man's DDR, or that it's boring. In fact, tell anyone that's done that in a Guitar Hero game and 99 percent will disagree.

GH is fun. simple. us 360 GH users wont get bored with the set lists becasue of this little thing called The Xbox Live Marketplace. and if it inspires gamers to go learn a new craft, thats great.

Yeah, I got most things but cord progression. Damn my slow fingers! Although I had a class. I do agree though, if you can't play guitar, GH is a nice substitute.

Guitar Hero 2 didn't come out two years ago. It came out in November. You should ask cows why they waited a year to play Oblivion.

I'm willing to bet there are a lot of casual gamers who think they will become amazing guitar players after playing this game.  My sister actually thought she could dance after playing DDR...I guess ignorance truly is bliss.

The Guitar Hero FRANCHISE is over 2 years old (Part 2 is new, but I'm refering to the series), and about that Cow comment, I would love to ask them that, but I don't see many posting that Oblivion is their new favorite game for their PS3's. Find me, otherwise I would love too.

Pretty embarrassing to just find out it's a good game. Talk about massive Denial UNTIL it comes out for your system.

Another thing to consider, GH2 is $10 more expensive on 360, JUST CAUSE. No reason other than Greed. The graphics are hardly increased, it's Greed Pure and simple.

I got the original GH, but decided to wait for 2 because it wasn't as good soundtrack and was coming to 360. Now I will be able to get it tom, and rock out to tunes I just played once or twice.

I'm a really bad guitar player.. pretty decent drummer though.. point is that the game improved my pinky's reflexes and now I can properly play power chords. Sure, i'm not amazing now but I'm better than before I played the game.

Besides, it's fun to jump around and be an idiot sometimes, Guitar Hero provides that fun.

I think more or less the greed is from the seperate explorer. That + GH is $110 bucks. Although for 10 more bucks for the stuff they add, I am going to get it. Plus, I am not paying for it :D

Yet, Donkey Konga scored in the 6's if I remember correctly...and there was actually a progression to that game.  It was a rhythm game to help you get past obstacles in levels.  GH2 is just a rhythm game period with a boring background and it scores very high...I just don't get the appeal.

No one with any kind of sense will think Guitar Hero is come kind of guitar trainer.  Anyone who believes that are probably the same people that expect to learn aweseome fighting skills with Tae Bo.

This is a game... pure and simple.  The game never ever tries to be anything more than that.

Keeping that in mind, it's an extremely fun game.  The novelty of the controller and its pick-up-and-play sensibility give Guitar Hero a very wide appeal.

I think it deserves every bit of praise it gets.

I was about to mention Elite Beat Agents :D...Now that game actually has more appeal to me.  It is also IMO more fun.  Yet, GH2 gets about the same score on GameSpot and is really no different from GH1.  I can sorta understand GH1 score.  But GameSpot likes a game to progress and constantly scores harder on sequels, especially sequels that are ports.  So a sequel that is a port scores an 8.9?  That seems almost as ridiculous as Jeff giving Warioware DS in the 9s.

pretty much the entire appeal of the game is the controller, it really is incredibly fun. With no guitar controller, this game is mediocre.

DDR has crappy music, it's crappy because it makes no sense and it hurts the ear, face reality you jpop lovers.

Guitar Hero has amazing music! Megadeth, GNR, Lynyrd Skynard (FREEBIRD BABY), Dick Dale (MISERLOU BABY), Black Sabbath, Danzig, Wolfmother, Stone Temple Pilots, Nirvana, etc etc. Sure the covers aren't always solid but really only the vocals sound like crap, the guitar sounds awesome.. it's not Vocal Hero, it's GUITAR HERO.

Second of all, Guitar Hero spoofs the whole idea of macho rock stars. It's subtle but it's a nice touch.

It's all more original than DDR and these other rhythm games.  DDR when it first came out was praised for being amazing, it still gets solid scores, keep that in mind.

As a fan of rock music, I think Guitar Hero is just amazing, maybe i'm biased but it makes me feel like i'm a rock star and you can't get them from any other game.

Ok...so the argument to my thread is "so what...the game is fun." That could be said about many games. What makes this game so different than DDR or any other rhythm game. Why is this game rated so high?

It is well made, but I agree. It is overrated for a musical game. Elite Beat Agents is the best musical game out there.

I'm sure you meant to say Ouendan, right?

I think Guitar Hero strikes the same chord (no pun intended) that DDR does.  It's different from using a traditional controller.  It's sense of fun comes the music.  It has the same appeal as any rhythm game really.

And what other reason do you need to play a game other than "it's fun"  ?

Sure it could be said about many games.  That's the point, isn't it?

I was about to mention Elite Beat Agents :D...Now that game actually has more appeal to me. It is also IMO more fun. Yet, GH2 gets about the same score on GameSpot and is really no different from GH1. I can sorta understand GH1 score. But GameSpot likes a game to progress and constantly scores harder on sequels, especially sequels that are ports. So a sequel that is a port scores an 8.9? That seems almost as ridiculous as Jeff giving Warioware DS in the 9s.

They did some progression, somewhat. Since its a rythem based game the biggest progression would be a new set list with more songs than the first game. Secondly, they improved the hammer on's and pull offs.

Why is Guitar Hero rated so highly?

  • Familiar soundtrack
  • Ease of pick up and play
  • Familiar in-game settings
  • A controller which provides an illusion of playing the real thing when tied into the gameplay
    •  I.E.- When button sequences are hit correctly, the song plays.  When hit wrong, the song gives off-key notes

All of these features are done so well to the point of makeing the game extremely fun, alone and with friends.  It is an extremely well-developed game that appeals to a wide spectrum of people, which is why is scored so high.

Please try reading the reviews to see as to why a game scores so high, and not just looking at the score.  They are often helpful to find out what a game is like.

Your also forgetting the new multiplayer modes, which are probably the biggest improvement over the first.

"just LOL @ how ridiculous they look." Hell I used to play DDR in public places with a lot of people. If you by any chance passed by me and thought that I was making a fool out of myself, while I was having fun at it, why should anyone or specially me care in the first place? In any case everyone wins. I would probably be having fun making a fool out of myself and you would be laughing about it :P

That's like saying DDR won't help you with your dancing abilities.

Oh wait...
