That Cinematic mod is truly impressive, I might consider replaying HL2 if I had the time. Only played it on the original XBox, I know what a shame.
[QUOTE="HaloinventedFPS"]
i knew everyone would say UC3 is overall better, it of course is overall better looking
the fanboys are claiming i get owned and missing an important point
that an 8 year old game comes close to Uncharted 3
lundy86_4
The game, by and large, isn't 8 years old anymore in this comparison. A large portion of the assets have been altered and replaced, and it has been stated that the Cinematic Mod even pushes the engine to its absolute limits.
Regardless, even though the game is new, the system is not. Compare the Cinematic mod running relatively close to console specs and then have a look. It's obvious that the PC far outpowers the consoles.
wow it replace most textures to higher res ones, suddenly it isnt 8 years old
flawless logic
considering the cinematic mod is like 5 years old
I'm sure UC3 is much more advanced technically but the jaggies kill it for me. I'm a resolution/AA whore :D
[QUOTE="HaloinventedFPS"][QUOTE="Ravensmash"]I'd say Uncharted 3 overall too, because im a PS3 fanboy who hasnt played HL2Ravensmash

HaloinventedFPS, either you cannot read or you have switched up your argument/angle halfway through. The original post of mine was edited :P (actually stated from the screenshots selected), as clearly TC was not happy with my opinion WHICH he now apparently shares!you are a console fanboy, nuff said
Da hell is with Breen and Alyx?
They look nothing like what they do in the vanilla game! :?
Goyoshi12
just custom models
Like I said in certain areas Half Life 2 looks better. But Uncharted 3 looks better in other areas. And if you are going to show off Half Life 2 cinema you might as well post higher resolution screenshots. And to the person who did post higher resolution screenshots......use some AA with it. RyviusARC
I'll check my setting, I was pretty sure AA was on but it seems not, looking at the enlarged pictures
Those custom character models look fugly by the way :P That's why I use the Cinematic Mod LE.

Reading comprehension is your friend. Utilize it effectively, and you won't make posts like this. "by and large" is the term I used. The game never utilized the higher resolution textures because it likely couldn't at the time, or it was unnecessary at the time.
The Cinematic Mod has gone through numerous upgrades, and, Cinematic Mod 11 is the newest iteration in its release (from 2011 IIRC).

The large majority of the assets have been changed. The game it is running on is 8 years old, yes (this was never in dispute), however much of what has been added in is not 8 years old.

You can always go with the earlier models. Like this one.Yeah, that one's not bad. It seems I'm still running CM10 when 11 was released last year. So I'll update
I there an option in the installer where you can choose which models are used ?

yes, and CM10 has it as well, it is a program in the CM folder called character pimper.[QUOTE="R4gn4r0k"]Yeah, that one's not bad. It seems I'm still running CM10 when 11 was released last year. But it probably won't contain that model. I asked in the forum for someone to post the files for that model and they did. They tell how to install it to work correctly too. Second post in this thread. http://www.cinematicmod.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=24&t=1130 There is also an RC3 version of the mod. http://www.cinematicmod.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=24&t=1155 You can also download it here. http://www.baldknobby.com/downloads/fakefactory/cm11rc/ That link contain the regular cinema mod 11 which you need first then atthe bottom it has the RC3 update you install after. Cinema Mod 11adds a few changes from Cinema Mod 10 like adding dynamic shadows.
Thanks for the info. I'll try it out once I've downloaded CM11
What models do you use for the other main characters by the way?
I'm pc gamer and i got HL2 when i bought my 9600XT ati card ( game code actually ), but that doesn't change the fact UC3 looks miles better even minecraft got better draw distance than HL2
Doom 3 vs KZ3 was good fun, the PS3 fans were so funny, could not stand that a 2004 game could match up to the best graphics on console in 2011, but no? Uncharted 3 has the best graphics ever on console? oh really? so what else had the best graphics in 2004 on PC.... oh right, Half life 2, hmm, HL2 was no where near as good as Doom 3 graphics wise, lets buff it up a bit with the cinematic mod to make the comparison against a 2011 game more fair
Rules: No Bullshots, no Cutscenes, in game only
Half Life 2 screenshots taken in 1080p, Very High settings, 16xAA/AF, Cinematic mod, replaces a lot of old textures, makes Half life 2 more dark like the beta was and also updates HL2 to Source engines 2007's version, some pictures are Original Half Life 2, some are Cinematic mod, i bet console gamers wont know which is which? how fun
oh and mods count, Uncharted 3 added motion blur in a patch, how is that not modding?
Uncharted 3 screenshots, 720p, No AA/AF, MLAA once again fails, at least UC2 had 2xMSAA
UC3 for sure has way better animation and the sand looks incredible, but other than that, i dont know
Half Life 2
Now lets compare character models shall we?
one of Cinematic mod's Alyx models
Versus... hmm how about Chole? Multiplayer model aswell, because we all know Uncharted 3 can handle its god tier graphics without the help of linear levels and scripted events, it can sure handle it in 10 player multiplayer right?
ah... that Generic bad guy versus Barney (Cinematic mod custom model)
hmm, so who wins?
HaloinventedFPS
hl2 wins lol
[QUOTE="Peredith"]I think most of the models are fine. It's just the clothes are not.....Those Cinematic Mod character models (although higher res) look horrible compared to the originals :P

the 10' ones looks fine. But omg, the 11' ones are terrible.

I think he fixed those CM11 models in the RC3 update. What really makes them look bad are the eyelashes and pubic chin hair. While watching the screenshots,I thought UC3 looks better overall, even though CM11 comes very close. But after watching Peredith's video of CM11 in motion,I'll be honest,I think it looks better than UC3's gameplay.Incredible how mod-friendly Source engine is.Think I'll install CM11 and give it a playthrough...
Oh,and I agree, character models suck,I like the high res,but not the overall look.Howewer the video description says how they're optional,so no problem...

This topic is so full of biasness that I am afraid that it is invalid and unecessary.
Chris_Williams
lol, if i was bias i would have not told anyone i was using mods, because most console gamers would not notice since they havent played HL2
you know HL2 is on the xbox right? i have it on the xbox, I think we would have knew you were using mods Half Life 2 is even on the ps3 :p[QUOTE="Chris_Williams"]
pc fanboys are always running to mods
Jankarcop
please explain how this is invalid or takes away from the arguement? Mods count 100%.
this is like me saying "console fanboys always running to their games"
It has been explain already. Go read the previous pages. At a glance, Uncharted 3 looks better, though as a hermit it pains me to say it.
If you properly analyze and pick apart the graphics though, i think HL2 looks better. All my opinon of course.
Even though I'm a PC only gamer I have to say that this is kind of silly.
UC3 is overall the obviously better looking game. I mean look at the level of geometry and detail that differs them.
HL2 modded has it's advantages (mainly textures) but it doesn't take more then a glance to sort out which of these is more visually up to date.
I love HL ... I own every HL title available, original and source remakes. UC3 looks better. UC3 looks better than a lot of technically demanding PC games too.rasengan2552
>UC3 looks better than a lot of technically demanding PC games too.
yeah, its all in the art style
i wonder how Black mesa source will look, hopefully as good as the cinematic mod, if not better

Mods have always counted in SW, and in real life... and will continue to do so.
There isn't a single good reasons as to why they shouldn't "count" unless you magically erase them from existance.
You are simply trying to cancel out an extreme advantage of the superior system.
Sorry, you lose.
