Ok so today I was looking through all my games, and I decided to pop in halo 3, and man WOAH i never really realized how good it was until now, it has a awesome campaign, with soo many memorable levels and replay ability, super historical and fun custom games, especially with a party of what like 8 people and a super creative forge mode and forge maps! which is super fun to just gag around with friends, and believe it or not the online still has around over 100,000 playing! man iam super impressed! and the graphics are still very good. like what other fps can deliver all that? (besides halo reach) seriously! and even after 3 years! so much replay value in this game, its not even funny! ps: this is no fanboy war.

As there's a 1990 in your name, I'm guessing that's when you were born.

As I grew up, shooters like Wolfenstien, Doom, Goldeneye, Half life and Quake revolutionized the FPS. Halo did at a time too, then it stagnated, which is evident in H3. Now they all stagnate, so it's hard to look at any modern day example as "the best".

It must be hard for new gamers growing up on Halo and COD, their standards as they see them would be incredibly high, yet in reality in comparison to everything else, are amazingly low. That's why COD sells so well I guess.

Nah, there are much better games in my opinion. Team Fortress 2, Battlefield 2 or bad Company 2, Call of Duty 4, Counter Strike.

im a good halo fan but serious halo 3 is no where near being the best fps. imho even to this day the best fps is counter strike source, i find it weird they did not trelease it on current consoles

I've actually played Doom through to Doom 3, and a fair portion of golden eye, I also remember growing up with playing quake 3 arena with heaps of friends, so yes I've played alot of the older shooters, but in reality just look at what halo 3 has offered compared to other shooters. crysis 2 had a decent campaign but thats it, black ops just has an addicitve online, honestly what fps could offer a better, more re playable experience?

Personally I think the only thing that Halo really excels at is campaign coop, which is VERY fun! Apart from that its quite bland, it just revolutionized FPS's on CONSOLES because it figured out how a controller should perform!

Glad you agree. Halo 2 is a great game that is actually kind of underrated, because it improved so much on Halo CE, but barely gets any recognition for it. Yes it is incredibly fun to play with friends on custom made maps, though i thought that Forge on Halo 3 is very limited to what you can modify. That's why i like Halo CE in MP, because you can really make maps to play on with friends to your hearts content and modify them in any way you want, there are also dozens of thousands playing Halo CE on the PC.

No its not the best fps ever...

What Halo CE did was successfully adapt oldschool hardcore fps games, with a console... and all consoles games still copy its formula to this day. It also successfully blended half life storytelling in the process.

I think Halo CE might have been the most unique and well developed fps, ever made. It did everything right, and nothing wrong.

But halo 3 is a sequel of a sequel.... its an improvement of an improvement. By itself its nothing special.

EDIT: but in terms of multiplayer, i heard halo 3 is pretty badass.. so in that sense i cant judge. Because i never played it online... i can say halo reach is the best modern online fps... and since people think halo 3 was better.... it was probably the best modern online fps.

But there are plenty of old school games like quake live that are still better. Halo is just the best contemporary example.

I define best by most fun. So for me, Halo 3 is the best FPS I've ever played. I've played Counter Strike 1.6 & Source (not religiously like many of my friends though) and while it's more competitive, I still prefer Halo 3. I like Warcraft more than Starcraft, despite Starcraft seeming to be the universally agreed best RTS.

Either way, as far as console FPS are concerned, I haven't played anything as good as Halo 3.

Edit: I'm mainly basing this on multiplayer though. Halo 3's single player isn't the best in the Halo franchise. I'd possibly say it was the least memorable, co-op being the reason it's so enjoyable. I'd say Bioshock would be up there as one of the best if we're only talking single player. But then again, maybe I'm not one to talk when it comes to single player; I thought Half Life 2 was a boring FPS built around a physics engine.

I liked it a lot. Certainly not my favorite or most played FPS ever, but it was great fun in multiplayer and my 2nd favorite halo campaign.

Well there are map tools (modifications) to make maps for playing in MP, on Halo CE.

But it doesn't have the official Forge, that didn't come until Halo 3.

Depends on the taste. I prefer Doom, Quake, Half-Life, Team Fortress, Stalker and Killzone games. Halo's not my cup of tea.

It is very underrated. The problem is that back in 07 people just expected a bigger jump in gameplay and graphics. Personally I can't decide which multiplayer is the best, out of Halo2, 3, or Reach.

Imo there are definitely games with better multiplayer (Battlefield, CS, Team Fortress 2, Quake 3 etc.) and better singleplayer (Crysis, Hl2), but as a complete package halo 3 got it right. The best console fps for sure.

im not a hermit. but it was reviewed by console standards at the time. PC fps was far more advanced.

Halo was the first fps, that actually could hold a candle to pc fps.... everything that came before had a handicap.

That's true. Plus playing Perfect Dark now would seem ridiculous with single analog movement and the silly strafing with the C Buttons on the N64 and the autoaim

Halo CE for it's time is right there but Halo 3 is the finest, most complete, smooth as silk FPS and heck, game delivered this gen so yeah, I think it's safe to say it's the best - It's the only game I've played this gen that deserved to be scored a 10/10 back when it launched. :P

Perfect Dark actually had an optional dual analog mode that exploited two N64 controllers. You could also set it so that the analog would control the camera and c-buttons (or d-pad) control movement.

Really? I just always side strafed everywhere with the c Buttons since it was faster than regularly moving forward wit hthe analog

So you are saying that Perfect Dark 64 with only 1 analogue stick is better than Bad Company 2 and Modern Warfare? Seriously? I think nostalgia blinds some people.

I would say so. Filling up a squirt gun and shooting at my poop in the toilet bowl has better level design than MW.

I really hate when people use the term "nostalgia," because it's always in a negative way.

The topic is called Halo 3, best FPS ever? and I gave my opinion on what I think is the best FPS ever.

I'm not particularly fond of this genre, and instead of saying something negative or trollish I gave my honest opinion.

I had a lot of fun with this game, and I genuinely think it's the best FPS ever.

Just because the game didn't come out 4 days ago, it doesn't mean that I'm blinded by nostalgia.

Thank you, come again.

Halo 2's campaign blew 3's out of the water. Single player is what matters most to me, especially since I will never pay for online. Honestly, 3 shook my faith in Bungie. I'll see if CE is worth its hype when I get the remastered version. Halo 2 is the best in series of all that I've played (all but CE and ODST).

LOL no way son. it's not even the best halo game.

Resistance 2 is so much better.

ratchet_usa
oh yeah because Resistance 2 still has over 100,000 people playing online, and has custom games, and has forge... right?? oh wait nah it doesnt, -__- its a good game but next please next time actually mention a worthy title.

R2 could easily have 100k players online, if there was nothing else to play on the PS3.

if you are trying to prove that the 360 has nothing else, then you truly are blind halo reach, cod 4, cod 5, cod 6, cod 7, battlefield 3, gears 2 etc -__- dont be an idiot

Halo CE for it's time is right there but Halo 3 is the finest, most complete, smooth as silk FPS and heck, game delivered this gen so yeah, I think it's safe to say it's the best - It's the only game I've played this gen that deserved to be scored a 10/10 back when it launched. :P

SecretPolice
for me it still is a 10/10

I think I'm one of the few that would agree with you that Halo 3 is a 10 game. The more I play Reach, the more I feel that Halo 3 had the better Multiplayer. Plus, the game just felt a bit more like Halo--none of that load-out cr@p.

Matter of opinion, but in my opinion yes. It is the only FPS I didn't get bored of in 2 months of playing like other FPS this gen.

What is then? Because honestly, I play Reach all the time, and I think Halo 3 may be the more balanced multiplayer game.
