After reading through this article, it seems to me that we are going to get a hell of a lot for our money here. Not only is this game starting to come together beautifully (some of the screenshots in the mag are gorgeous), it looks to have more replayability than any other game I have read about recently.

Being a huge Halo and Halo 2 fan for a long time, I have to say I was skeptical about Halo 3 living up to all the hype. If you have not read this article yet and have been a fan of Halo or FPS in general, this should convince you that Halo 3 is going to bring the goods. This game is going to be so jampacked with features its going to be a standard for FPS to reach. If Bungie can manage to add all these new options and keep the gameplay silky smooth and maintain the graphics I have seen in this recent EGM, its gonna occupy alot of our time for months (years) to come.

I am officially counting the days until September 25th. It is going to be a hell of a fall for gaming.

Feel free to disagree with me on this. Please no anti-Halo fanboyishness...if you have read the new EGM and are still not impressed than state your opinion. Otherwise, don't bash this thread please.

I feel free to disagree, but I can't. You're spot on in my book. The 25th can't come soon enough.

Yeah the game is definitely shaping up nicely, hopefully I'll get through MP3/Bioshock before the 25th.

Like Halo 2 multi player wasn't replayable xD. I mean I'm expecting the same as halo 2, dip in and complete the campaign, and head staight to multiplayer... saying that if there are lots of single player achievments then damn bungie, you got me.

Guess we know where she stands! I didn't read the article, care to post a few highlights of the article?

Although I understand how people are expecting the game to be great and will play it for a long time, I just can't get past your comment about how Halo 3 is going to be the standard to meet for the FPS genre. I, as a huge fan of the FPS genre take offense to that seeing as how Bioshock will be out in 13 days. As much as Halo 3 will do for the genre, it will be so pale in comparison to Bioshock, the game will appear white.

Bioshock is going to be setting the bar for the next level of FPS games on both consoles and PC's. Halo 3 might be fun for those that enjoy it but saying it will be the trend setter is far from the truth.

Well the way I see it... Bioshock with define how single player in fps will work, and halo 3 in multi player.

Don't get TOO riled up :? It's just a video game. The fact remains that neither Halo 3 or Bioshock have proven themselves in any way. We will have to wait and see how great both titles end up being. Bioshock looks amazing to me, and so does Halo 3. For some reason, though, I'm skeptical of Bioshock. In any case, we can't really say one way or another whether or not a game will be revolutionary. We'll just have to wait and see.

I would suggest picking it up if your a big Halo fan. The screenshots alone are worth getting it for. Theres almost too much for me to write in here right now but from the forge editor to 4 player coop (which wasnt even confirmed before this article so they didnt even get to talk about it) to the video editor this game is jampacked with features.

Refering to an ealier post:

If you are refering to the campagn not being replayable, I disagree. I think that halo 3 coop could rival halo 3 multiplayer for popularity with all the options you will be able to play with. The addition of Skulls which you can add to the campaign allow you to change the way the campaign is played. For example, one skull can double the hitpoints of enemies and another can allow enemies to only throw grenades. These are just two examples of how the gameplay can be changed. The skulls can be piled up too, so if you and your buddies are nasty at Halo 3 or you are worse than your grandmother, you can make the game as excrutiatingly hard or easy based on your skill level.

If you are saying replayable by yourself, then I guess I would have to agree with you. But four player coop and the way your going to be able to adjust difficulty levels is very cool. If you buy halo 3 just for the offline portion I would say its not really worth it unless you love the story. Halo 3 is meant to be played with other people.

Not sure how you can say that.... Halo has BEEN a trend setter for FPS on consoles. It set the standard for Multiplayer, as far as I am concerned. I honestly cant recall any game that has been mentioned or revered in the same way as Halo when it comes to multiplayer. Yes, Gears took its place, but Halo 2 had already been out, what... almost two years? And up until then, it was still the champ for multiplayer. Its going to have legs, no doubt.

No one defines how MP will work. There's too many different types of MP FPS's. Everyone's not going to follow Halo3, and thank god their not.

I also like the fact that you're rewarded for playing on harder difficulties. For example, they said in the magazine issue that things such as a Phantom dropping of a load of troops only happens for those who play on Heroic or Legendary.

It's not wierd at all. I've never really been a fan of the UT series either, although I do know it's a great series. I just can't get into them.

I agree with both of you in different ways. But I do believe they are very different games. I am excited for both games and need to preorder both now that I am thinking about it (put that off for way too long) but I see them as vastly different FPS.

BioShock, as it seems to me, is not about frenetic, fast paced gameplay. Its about using your noggin. Thinking of the best way to take down these big goliaths of enemies. The addition of the plasmids is almost like an action adventure game with puzzles to change the way you kill these guys. It is about atmosphere and creating an immersive world that tells an amazing story. No multiplayer for a reason.

Halo 3, as we will all agree, is about fast paced, kicking butt, blowing things to smithereens. It is as frenetic a game as you will get on a console (UT is insane on PC so i would say halo 3 is not as fast paced). Now, the single player will have a good storyline i believe but, from what i read in egm, the single player will all be about AI. The enemies have recieved quite an upgrade in Halo 3. Apparently, elites will be able to order grunts to different positions as well as intuitively stalk you and even climb over things to get to you when you are behind cover. This will make the AI tough and will make as rethink our tactics from Halo 2.

Now, Halo 3 will also have MP. I dont even want to get into that its just too long to explain it but the bottomline is Halo 3 should offer the great MP we expect with so many more additions it will keep us coming back for more, if even just to fool around in Forge. When I say it will be the standard for FPS, I not only mean for AI and fast paced gameplay, but I mean for sheer amount of replayability. I think it will be very hard for other FPS to offer the same amount of replayability as Halo 3 seems like it will offer on September 25th.

Seriously. I encourage people to look at this EGM and see whats being offered in Halo 3. I have a PS3 and will most likely get UT3 but from what I have read its not going to offer this amount of stuff in the package. At least UT3 on PS3 will have mouse and keyboard support otherwise I think it would be horrendous.

I'm sure I'm not the only one that played the first campaign on co-op over 10 times. Actually playing thru it again right now, and its as fun and fresh as its ever been. Granted I havent reached the Library yet :P

But yeah, this game looks like it will be a blast and yes, very replayable.

The great thing is that with the expansion of Xbox Live, more and more content can easily be added at a later date. More game modes, maps, weapons -- Halo 3 will only get bigger over time. To me, that's just as exciting a prospect. Now if only a could afford an Xbox 360 as well as a PlayStation 3..

So? Whats it got to do with replayability against these games? Nothing. So what if it was widely played since 2004 to 2006. Counter Strike has been the most played online game (thats not an MMO) since 2001 - to today, and starcraft is one of the most widley played FPS - since 1998....

As I said its online isnt much to parade (sure if your a console only gamer it was the best for a while), and its replayability has nothing on Crysis's dynamic mission structure, power struggle mp, sanbox editor, UT3's massive amount of gameplay modes, maps, mods, weapons, skins, mutators and HL2 ep2s content, and massive modding community. It has NOTHING on these games in terms of replayability.....

Replayablity?

Look I really like Halo but its replayability is NOTHING compared to UT3, Crysis and HL2 ep2.

h575309

Is that why Halo 2 was the most played XBL game until Gears had been out for a while? :|

Yes UT NEEDS M/KB support!

And no Halo 3 will have knowhere as much replayability as UT3. As a UT vet I can safley say that knowing the singleplayer, multiplyer, vast maps, game modes, weapons, mp bots, mutators, addons (weapons characters ect), and MODs will make the game alot more replayable than ANY other FPS. Hell UT04 is still the most replayable FPS... Actually second to only HL2...

:o I've only been with them since Durandal, and I thought I was the longest time Bungie fan on these forums.

musicalmac

You came in at a great time, then, my friend. Durandal was my favorite Bungie game. We should rock it online. w00t! for co-op.

Indeed. I guess I just have to get gold :P. Send me a friend request or something and I'll answer when I've got time :D.

It has NOTHING on these games in terms of replayability.....

skrat_01
You said Halo wasn't much for replayability. I disagreed. And gave you a good reason why. I mean, you're the one who brought up UT3 and Crysis in the first place. What do THOSE games have to do with the replayability of Halo?! That is what we're talking about in this thread. Dare I say... p...w...n...t?

Yes it does. You do know that you're saying games you havent even played yet will be more replayable than Halo 3 right? I agree with you that all the games you mentioned will rock, and I will be playing them all, but that doesn't diminish how much content and fun seems to be packed into Bungies latest chapter in the Halo series.

There's genius in it? Where did Bungie hide it?

musicalmac

Oh it's not hidden. It just seems that some people can't find the forest through the trees. It's there.

Guess I'll have to take you word for it. Maybe Bungie will have good multiplayer this time around. Course that will be a stretch for them, but I think they are capable.

Your cheap shots don't phase me ;) I'm not worried about it. I've been with Bungie since Gnop!. And they STILL haven't let me down.

You are right there is no way I can make you see how generic and arcady Halo 2 is. I have no problem with Halo: CE, but Halo 2 is utter rubbish. Hopefully Halo 3 will be the second coming, cause if it isn't well you know...

Well, judging from the beta that we've played, we know the MP will be rocking. It doesn't need to be the second coming, it just needs to be fun. And the beta was. The only thing thats up in the air right now is how fun the SP campaign will be.

I told you your cheap shots won't phase me! Why are you still trying ;) I disagree. Halo 2 was far from rubbish. Let me see... Where was that... Ah. Here.

I'm sure I'm not the only one that played the first campaign on co-op over 10 times. Actually playing thru it again right now, and its as fun and fresh as its ever been. Granted I havent reached the Library yet :P

But yeah, this game looks like it will be a blast and yes, very replayable.

TheCrazed420

Different strokes for different folks I guess. I couldn't finish either campaign as I was so incredibly bored by the incredibly repetitious level and enemy design.

I am sure UT3 will be a nice competitor to Halo 3. Maybe even beat it in terms of replayability, who knows, Im going on what I have seen so far in the media. They have been pretty hush hush on UT3. I tend to prefer Halo's gameplay b/c UT04 seemed like the framerate was jacked up on steroids and I was running at 100 MPH but it just comes down to taste.

When it comes to PC gaming, I wish my PC could handle crysis but i still have a 9800 in there with an AGP motherboard. So I would prolly have to upgrade the whole thing, which I dont have the money for right now. But yes, Crysis does look great. I was mainly focusing on consoles though, since obviously PC is the superior to all consoles and thats a given. It is always upgradable and consoles wont be able to compete with that really. It is quite pricey though to keep up with pc gaming. Graphics excel so quickly its ridiculous.
