How exactly is that a military grade weapon?foxhound_fox

Well, Halo's technology is a mixture of tech..not just the humans! Which is why it could be considered weird if their technology was only confined to what advances the humans are able to make.

It looks cool and the Idea of it is cool, but we have to wait and see how good it actually is. People questioned the gravity gun before they knew it would be one of the most memorable weapons in any game.

That's not you imitating fanboys, that's you being a fanboy.

C'mon now...

Spartan070

No... that *is* me imitating fanboys. You tout this as an amazing weapon yet you have not used it yet... how are you so inclined to believe that its execution will be as good as you say? What if it turns out buggy and useless? You cannot pass judgement on such a thing yet, you cannot tout such a thing yet...

Plus the game takes place in 2552, are we supposed to hold "military grade" to todays standards?:?

Lems are really trying to hype this game. Poor halo fans their beloved franchise is getting really dull. I blame Mass Effect, Bioshock, Call of Duty 4 and Assasin's creed for this. These are the games that make Halo 3 feel like rehashed garbage.

Magical_Zebra

Know what you speak of before you hit the "submit" button. This game doesnt need to be hyped, it has well over 4 million preorders. And this was in May 07.

preorders for Halo 3 have topped 4,000,000 units, making it the "most preordered video game of all time.

Did I metion sales? Madden sells more than that but is it a great game? No, its total rehash and garbage every year. This halo 3 is super dull and total rehash just like madden. It doesnt give me the excitement and giggle I get when I see Mass Effect, Bioshock and Assasin's creed.

I'm going off what I know and what's already been confirmed, not experience. Take that as you will. However you take it, it's made for a great discussion so far, try not to be too cynical.

There are already hand-held laser weapons in development TODAY IRL.

I thought Halo 2's sword took the place for the best FPS melee weapon ever (or the chainsaw from gears if your counting third person too). Maybe this Gravity Hammer might take the place.

I am not one to argue but they could come up with something that shows at least some advancement in technology over FIVE HUNDRED years. Look how far we came in the last 100.

Weve been using them for 500 years already...Spartan070

Like I said already, look how far we have come in the past 100 years. Your telling me that technology is going to stagnate for another 500 years?

We've gone from the most primitive of automatic weapons like the Gatling Gun and WWI era machine guns to things like the Vulcan Cannon that can get so hot from firing so fast that the gun barrels melt. Technological advancements in types of ammunition as well, like the M32 MGL with grenades that have mini-cameras and parachutes in them so they can be sent up above the ground for reconnaissance.

The fiction of the Halo universe has always intrigued me to some extent but I have never cared much for the games... finding out that the game takes 500 years in the future has pretty much killed any chance of me taking it seriously ever again. I could see perhaps 50... maybe even 100 but 550? Jeez...

I apologize for the rant... but I don't know exactly why I despise Halo so much... I really wish I could like it. Being part of a massive gaming community is always a good thing.

They could have, sure, but considering there are already 2 games in the IP, it's a little late for that now.

They've definitely shown technological advancement in other areas besides weapons, though.

I wouldn't call 8 mm anti-personnel armor-piercing iron spikes fired in a linear trajectory at hypersonic velocities using magnetic acceleration technology "bullets." :P

And StarCraft is set just over 200 years in the future...

8mm projectiles are only barely bigger than the 7.62 mm rounds used in an AK47. It's a normal sized projectile fired magnetically. The guns in Halo fire electronically. Neither use conventional powder or mechanics.

Hurray for a knowledge of the Halo universe!!!:D Also, see link in my sig.

you sure they're bullets? I mean......wouldn't a bullet kind of......do crazy stuff in a zero G enviroment? You don't have the drag created by gravity causing a decrease in velocity. Hmmm.

Tell that to someone from the 16th century about 19th century technology. :P

I'd kiss that anti-ground turbo laser equipt battleship goodbye with my spartan laser!! Then again, the aforementioned anti-ground turbo laser would turn me into dust before I even started charging the spartan laser. And by the by... what makes the laser "turbo"? I know for sure it's not because of the rate of fire! :P

Almost all rifle bullets from conventional rifles travel at supersonic speed, 600mph. Only a few low-powered pistols and submachine guns travel slower than that. Some sniper rifles, like the Remington 700 BDL and the AK47 derived Dragonov, travel at almost twice the speed of sound.

There are few things in this world I know tons about, guns is one of them.

Screw weapons, thats for wussys.

The best FPS melee weapon is your feet in F.E.A.R. You can swing a hammer all you want, but nothing is more satisfying than KICKING SOMEONE IN THE FACE.

As do I... but I think iron spikes being projected magnetically, ala. rail-gun, is a lot more technologically advanced then gunpowder. :P

Crowbar for Half Life is the best.

Seriously?! I feel like I'm taking crazy pills!! Would you rather play with a crowbar, or the gravity hammer?! Honestly!

You make a reference to Zoolander, your ok in my book. ;)
