Halo 3 has been out for nearly 2 years, and barely 30% of 360 owners bought it.

MGS 4 has been out for 9 months. Compare that to the 1 year and 7 months Halo 3 has been out.

Consoles also keep selling in the same time period, so sales have to stay even with that.

I doubt they do, so that means that 9 months in, Halo 3's attach rate was probably even higher than 30%.

edit - looks like Microsoft announced 18 millions 360s soldby the beginning of 2008, and 8 million copies of Halo 3 at the same time. Looks like the attach rate has dropped quite a bit from that point, when it was at 44%, which makes sense as people have kept buying 360s but stopped buying Halo 3 at the same rate.

in 5 weeks, killzone 2 sold 1.32 million units (according to vgcharts).

in one week, the original gears of war sold 1 million units. in 4 weeks, it sold another 1 million for a total of 2 million units. to make things worse, the week that gears 1 went on sale in the us there was an election so ms postponed the launch from tuesday november 4 to friday november 7 meaning that 1 million copies of gears sold in 2 days. link. and at the time, it was an unproven franchise.

in one day, gears 2 sold 2.1 million in the us alone. link

30% is really good though, almost 1 in 3 xbox owners have it.

I'm a little bit surprised not everyone has it though, should be the very first game anyone with a 360 buys.
