Why are they taking away firefight?:?

PhazonBlazer

Halo 3 didnt have firefight and its considered on of the best in the series. So yeah...

But that's not the point. Why take away extra modes? Especially since there are many firefight fans.

So theyre time can go into making other things. Why do a million things half a**ed when you can do a couple things really well?

[QUOTE="Truth_Hurts_U"]To bad they game wont look like that. Don't see any jags like the videos or pics not in the mag. Plus the texture res is higher then what I seen. 343 did a horrible job on Halo CE Anniversary. So I'm not getting my hopes up.Truth_Hurts_U

It's called 720p and FXAA. See Mass Effect 3...

You do know that FXAA still dose not get rid of jags and it blurs the crap out of the image. There you have it... Bullshots.

Denial is the first step. FXAA has been improved tons. IQ is as good as God of War 3.

"Firefight is absent and it is stated that there are no plans for it to return. New Co-Op mode called Spartan Ops for up to four players in online Campaign-esque missions." - I am not sure how I feel about this.

Haha, wait, Spartan Ops is literally Spec Ops? That's kind of sad, but Spec Ops is a good concept so there's nothing really wrong with it.

Honestly, some of these changes have moved Halo 4 away from the arena shooter gameplay and straight into modern military shooters. Massive disappointment.

I hate to say this, but it's really them wanting to capture the audience that plays BF3/CoD. There is no other logical explanation for some of the changes. Goodbye map control, goodbye arena shooter, hello perks.

Honestly some of this info sounds iffy, but I think people should give 343 a chance to explain this info more and wait for more info and gameplay videos of MP to come out. Maybe in the end these changes aren't as bad as they seem to be.

FXAA doesn't blur too much, very subtle and worth it to get rid of jaggies with little performance hit. Of course the magazine uses supersampled screenshots, why even discuss this, all magazines do this.

X-Ray vision? Really? Lol I don't know why this sounded funny when I read that. I just imagine seeing a camper through the walls waiting for that final kill for his team and then having myself or a teammate jack his ass up LMAO

Joining games in Progress? Torn on this...

No dedicated firefight mode? Boooooo

No weapon camping-- Personally me likes the sound of this. We'll see how it plays out. Lol I just got an image of things falling from the sky in Hunger Games.

Instant Respawns? Torn

I guess we really won't know how this plays out until we actually experience it hands on.

With that said this is my most anticipated game this year EASILY! Can't wait to play this game!

Ok, I haven't posted on here in ages, but I still care about halo even if just for nostalgia shake. Been playing since 2002-2003 h1 xbc glory days and needed to share my take on the news: Single player - actually really looking forward to this, new environment and antagonist, yes plz. Plus excited to see John and cortana's relationship evolve/devolve. Multiplayer - really hate that they are chasing CoD so blatantly instead of making their own innovations. I would much rather it be h1/h2 style and overly simple and grounded then packed with someone else's crap features. Instant spawn can only be good in a FFA match and even then it's just free clean up kills, then random power weapon spawns?! That introduces too much chance in a game about strategy and map control. It's no longer a fight for power weapons it's who is lucky enough to come across them. Right place, right time etc. the one redeeming quality....I think movement and shooting will be on point. Which is the most important thing. Oh, and the graphics look good. Real good. I'll give it a chance, but this is definitely not the halo I wanted.

It sounds like they've completely ruined Halo.

Random weapon spawns on the map? Really? Why? So the baddies can have a chance at walking over one and getting some kills?

Loadouts? Again, really? So balance is just going to be shot out the window from the get go, huh? If you have to unlock weapons and armor abilities, all of the skill goes away. And spawning with whatever you want? That's not Halo.

Oh, and no Firefight, huh? I guess it wasn't enough like Modern Warfare. Let's add in a Spec Ops mode!

F*ck you, 343. If I wanted to play Call of Duty, I'd f*cking play Call of Duty.

This isn't like other Halo games though.

Removing arena shooter elements like map control, having instant spawning (no penalty to die), perks, sprint, x-ray vison, medals for not actually killing people (in an arena shooter no less)...

The only good thing is the ability to join mid-game. The rest of it is moving so far away from Halo it's stupid.

The medals for not getting kills, x-ray vision, the perks, and the instant spawning are all there to bridge the skill gap.

Halo 2 used ranking systems to bridge skill gaps. It wasn't perfect, but you played with people around your same skill level. This made it a lot of fun for everybody. Now developers decided that taking ranks away from people was a bad idea and they just have to make the game more balanced for people who aren't any good.

Wait.

  • COD has weapon drops?
  • Loadouts aren't specific to COD, could be like Gears of War.
  • COD has a "horde" mode, Halo 4 doesn't.

Yet somehow all that = COD? Nah brah.

No, but if they're random, it's going to remove map control as a game element entirely.

Chose primary weapon, secondary weapon, grenades, and armor abilities. Experience ranks you up and unlocks new sh!t. That sounds exactly like Call of Duty to me. And Gears of War has always had the "You can pick between this and this." Halo hasn't. It shouldn't be in the game at all. That's not what Halo is about.

Spartan Ops sounds exactly like Spec Ops, so that point is invalid.

So yeah, that = Call of Duty.

That's because the industry dictates that you have to design multiplayer games to cater to people who are bad. F*ck balance, f*ck a ranking system, f*ck anything that forces you to do anything but create the most broken loadout you can and hold down the trigger.

It's terrible. ON the other hand, though, given how hard 343 royally f*cked Reach once they took over, I can't say I'm surprised.

Weapon drop is silly and is just something that bridges the gap for unskilled and skilled players. It's one step away from just coming in with a predetermined loadout. There are even loadouts in Halo Reach and now in Halo 4. Never should have been there.

I say it's like CoD when a game is clearly changing it's core gameplay to appeal to a wider audience and bridge the gap between unskilled and skilled player effectivly ruining the competitive aspects of the game.

Halo was the last real competitive FPS on the consoles. Everything else has loadouts, perks, killstreaks, and other competitive breaking elements in an attempt at making people more equal. While this is a direct route to more people having fun, it ruins the competitive aspects that millions of gamers loved in the Halo series.

It's dumb and 343 should reevaluate their decisions here.

I like every thing they are talking about and how its changed Its one the reasons I got sick of halo multiplayer after 2 it hadn't really changed with 3 or reach.
I specially like the random weapons on the map I've always hated the fact that it was ever had memorized the weapon times instead of whomever got to the weapon first and had the skill to use it.

You spawn with custom loadouts! Oh, and there's no respawn timer, so you just come back like nothing happened! They're clearly looking to Call of Duty for inspiration.

All that does is make it somewhat fun/rewarding for less skilled players to not get utterly obliterated every match. You can have "Resident Evil" style unlimited-ammo-rocket-launchers and it still won't help against superior players.

Halo 4 seems to be changing a lot of things, but it won't play like COD so it shouldn't be compared to COD. We are talking about things like hologram, jetpacks, active camo, that alone is nothing like COD. Halo 4 firefights will still be intense and not half a second 3 bullet sprays. No sh*t such as killstreaks which is the biggest thing in COD. Nothing like COD.

This is true. But you know what else would keep the less-skilled players from getting obliterated every match? A matchmaking system with ranks based on skill. :o Like the one in Halo 2, or Halo 3, or the one that's under the hood in Reach. But no, that makes too much sense. I'm so sick of FPS developers rewarding people for being bad and punishing people for being good.

Glad to hear about the permanent sprint and the Forerunner vision sounds pretty cool, but I hope it doesn't become cheap. I just hope the game has a good campaign and not a half assed one, my 360 buddies are all going to get this game, so the spec ops thing sounds fun.

I wish Killzon had as many features and popularity that Halo has, but I wish Halo was as advanced in graphics and gameplay as Killzone.

That's because the industry dictates that you have to design multiplayer games to cater to people who are bad. F*ck balance, f*ck a ranking system, f*ck anything that forces to do anything but create the most broken loadout you can and hold down the trigger. It's terrible.DarkLink77

All that does is make it somewhat fun/rewarding for less skilled players to not get utterly obliterated every match. You can have "Resident Evil" style unlimited-ammo-rocket-launchers and it still won't help against superior players.

Talent > loadouts

This is true. But you know what else would keep the less-skilled players from getting obliterated every match? A matchmaking system with ranks based on skill. :o Like the one in Halo 2, or Halo 3, or the one that's under the hood in Reach. But no, that makes too much sense. I'm so sick of FPS developers rewarding people for being bad and punishing people for being good.

I was really hoping for the 1-50 Halo 2 system to make a comeback, nice and simple.

PC and PS3 fans are going to try to make it sound bad but Halo fans are really excited about it.Miketheman83
Not really lol. Take a look around. Halo fans are pissed. I myself am slightly bothered.

That's all well and good for "superior players", but those at lower skill levels will be at the mercy of people who exploit the imbalances, which isn't fun and doesn't facilitate actually getting better at the game.

This.

The impressive thing is that this leak has managed to piss off everyone. Not just the pro players, not just the casuals fans, not just the guys who only like to play Firefight. Everyone.

I have never seen the Halo community this upset. Not even at Reach, which a good portion of it hates.

So was I. But like I said, that makes too much sense.

Weapon drop is silly and is just something that bridges the gap for unskilled and skilled players.

Wasdie

Having a hard time seeing how this is bad:? My gut just tells me that if a player is truly skilled then ultimately that will win out in the end. Also this may force others to master weapons they may not feel comfortable with and just explore other strategies.

While this is a direct route to more people having fun, it ruins the competitive aspects that millions of gamers loved in the Halo series.

It's dumb and 343 should reevaluate their decisions here.

Wasdie

I kind of understand the doubts with the initial info given but I think we should give it a chance and see how it feels hands on before calling things dumb:?

^This, too. It's really hard to get better at a game that is random and unbalanced without actively trying to abuse the system, because there's no consistency.

[QUOTE="Thefatness16"]

Sprint

-So not only is sprint in the game, but it is a standard armor ability. You do not need to pick it up, it will always be available. You do not need to buy it with your Spartan Points, you will always have it equipped no matter what. So essentially, you can have two armor abilities.

freedomfreak

Nice.

Strongly disagree.

Halo is starting to be modernized and influenced by call of duty. It still is very unique shooter, but I hope they halt the mainstreaming.

I am very afraid.

I was not one of those fanboys who kept yelling bloody murder at Bungie for Reach. In fact, I defended Bungie throughout the days before the release.

I realize now Reach is.. well, it's boring. Halo 3's still way more fun. I pretended to really love Reach but I just don't.

And now, with this dreaded information about the upcoming Halo, I find myself disappointed and saddened by the fact that Halo will quite possibly die due to the COD-ization by 343. They're really only paying attention to the casuals, completely ignoring the competitive side of the fanbase, which is one of gaming's most active and vocal communities, and these casuals are the same ones who buy COD every single year.

The next Halo trilogy could quite possibly just be a bunch of short-lasting, pick up and leave shooters that will keep many casuals satisfied for a month or two before they go back to the new COD.

I actually enjoyed Reach more overall. But if I could fuse certain aspects of Reach, 2 and 3 together, I could make the perfect Halo game.

Hit the nail on the head. I think that HALO still has a REALLY long way to go to become like COD (the game is still old-school, which I love)

But if HALO gets completly screwed up, at least we'll know the STORY will always be there.

Guess I'm just playing the single-player then. Oh, Bungie, I miss you already.

Denial is the first step. FXAA has been improved tons. IQ is as good as God of War 3.Reiko2K1
I played alot of games with the FXAA option... I know more then you as it so happens to be. Here is a MSAA 4x Pic Here is FXAA HQ Pic As you can see in the picture there is still jags and you can see how soft FXAA makes the image. FXAA does not remove all JAG as you so happen to put it.

Pretty much, and if this was fake then 343 would have already confirm that by now.

Maybe we are overeacting abit? After all, it will have that classic, old-school, HALO experience.

But if not, then singleplayer was what I was REALLY looking forward to anyway.

What happened to Chief?!
