But but but MS are teh evils! MS never give anything away for free! LOL HALO REHASH LOL MORE OF THE SAME ENJOY YOUR UNORIGINAL IP EXCLUSIVE LEMMING SCUM, IM GOING TO GO AND PLAY JOURNEY INSTEAD MUCH MORE BETTERER IT IS!

^ Ahem, now with that out of the way, I guess I can begin my thread.

A Halo fanblog has seemingly got hold of juicy screenshots relating to Halo 4. Claming to have got information via Microsoft's Expertzone portal, several screenshots have emerged which provide some new details regarding MS's upcoming sequel:

ExpertZone2_0018_watermarkWhite+copy+14.

ExpertZone2_0013_watermarkWhite+copy+8.j

ExpertZone2_0010_watermarkWhite+copy+5.j

Many more photos at the link:http://www.littleenglishhaloblog.com/2012/06/new-halo-4-info-blowout-via-expertzone.html#more

So, what do you guys reckon? With the recent trend of 'Season Pass' pushing paid content onto gamers before a game has even released, it's definitely refreshing to see MS take something of a more consumer friendly approach (not that paid DLC is inherently bad) and provide decent amounts of after release support, alongside the traditional premium DLC.

It's more like holding back content for after release to try and get people to buy it as DLC after the initial free period. I guarantee you all the 'free' content will be ready to go before release day.

Halo subscription service confirmed.

"New halo missions! Only $15/month!"

They are trying to do a Halo WoW thing.

So if Activision held back 4 COD maps from Black Ops 2 at launch, then released them as free DLC 3 weeks later you would praise them? I'm pretty sure that's what's going on here.

How would I know if they were held back? Of course they've got people working on episodic content like this now - do you think they're going to have a team working 24 hours straight to finish a level each day? Wait, are you trying to spin this as a bad thing. Damn, I thought I had everything covered at the start of my post.

This is basically Spec Ops from the Modern Warfare series only with a more awkward method of delivering the content. Why can't we just have all of the missions at launch ?? Also only 2 new vehicles ?? The more news that gets released for this game the more dissapointed I become.

Halo doesn't exactly lack vehicles as it is though.

I'm just saying anyone could do this sort of thing, and they are following up the free stuff with stuff you have to pay for. It's just trying to get people to buy the DLC, not because they are loyal to their fans. Halo is pretty much going to become annual release milkage from now on so I'd say they'll be working on Halo 5 soon after release.

I think it's just the fact people know enough about Microsoft (and in general, the gaming industry) to know that 'free' content is never actually 'free'.

How is this not 'free'? Yes, it's episodic - but it's still 12 hours of free content with stuff releasing every day throughout the launch period.

*Sigh* What I'm saying is the content is probably ready to go before release day, but they hold it back til after to appear generous to their fanbase. It's like on disk DLC, but it's free, in order to get people hooked on it before they start charging for it.

I agree. They could have easily put the 50 missions on the disc but they are holding it back so that when the subscription comes along it looks more appealing and less of a money grab. This is kind of like a free trail with an MMO.

So therefore it's bad? You've got a campaign (alongside co-op), deep multiplayer - Halo has always been known as a game which is pretty content rich. And now you're complaining about MS deciding to go down an episodic route with additional modes? An episodic route that gives you the first season (12 hours over 10 weeks, releasing every day) as a negative? Stop being so bloody entitled. Whine whine whine.

Sounds like a really cool idea. It's like a TV show!

I always hated how people could finish a game in like one night.

This will be a great way to force people to pace themselves and savour the game.

Especially since they are free!

No, that is not what this is. This is gaming on a schedule. You are getting everything you would get if it was all at once, except now everyone can play the content when it comes out. It will make each mission an event, and extend the life of the game. That is real value.

So are they free forever or does it end after those 10 weeks? Also I'm confused on what Spartan Ops is to be honest, some people tell me it's a campaign, others tell me it's a co-op challenge games.

But this does seem like a good amount of content. But I don't have XBL so Halo 4 is pointless for me to own.

Yeah I don't mind episodic content - in fact it could help to keep the game feeling fresh long after release; not just a case of finishing the campaign in a few days then awaiting an expansion for months or relying on MP. Plus, the fact that the entire first season is free offers an incentive for people to check it out/give feedback to 343. I like the idea of logging on each day and having a 30 minute mission to play through - much like Halo Reach's daily challenges helped people work towards something in MP each day/week.

Season One of Spartan Ops is free for every player, I think it's an additional episodic campaign. They mention cinematic briefings so even if it's a collection of small missions across varying environments, it could be fun.

Because as gamers it is our mission to be incredibly cynical about everything for no apparent reason.

Wait a minute...

What happened to the content on the disc?

Is DVD's limited capacity forcing them to release additional content over the Internet?

Any developer can do that if they just cut a bunch of things from the game before release and then release them the next day as DLC and claim it's free. They could have given that from the start and nobody would claim it to be free.

Oh that's pretty cool. So it's kind of like a side story missions you can play, this will no doubt add more value to the game. I may not like Halo's gameplay as much as I do other FPS out there, but it definatley gives you the money's worth in content.

But I'm debating about getting a new 360 or not, or if it's worth getting XBL just for a few games. I don't really think XBL is worth the money but 360 has some good games, just can't decide yet. I don't know if Halo or Gears ect...are worth owning without XBL. Reach campaign got boring to me, so did Halo 3.

How is this cut? This is additional content. You could say that about Uncharted's map packs or Skyrim's expansion.

Season 1 is free. Season 1 comes with the game, and lasts ten weeks. After that there will be season two, which i imagine they will charge for as DLC. Presumably, anyway. As for what Spartan Ops is, it's a dedicated co-op campaign separate to the single player campaign, but intertwined with its events.

Wait a minute...

What happened to the content on the disc?

Is DVD's limited capacity forcing them to release additional content over the Internet?

GamerwillzPS

Spartan Ops, since its announcement, was billed as episodic content. It's less to do with storage and more to with game design. Besides, Halo has traditionally been one of the, if not the most, content packed shooter on consoles.

It's an incentive for single players to continue playing after finishing the campaign the first week. I'm really confused as to how people are spinning this as negative.

Sounds good, but 50 missions = 12 hours? They must be very short missions.Ninja-Hippo
Indeed, but the fact that it is daily sounds really appealing - something to do in addition to MP.

[QUOTE="Ravensmash"][QUOTE="kuraimen"]So they cut the game into pieces and they deliver it to you in a 10 week period and you lemmings think that you're getting things for free?? LOL no wonder M$ can rip you guys off so easily.kuraimen
This is in addition to the campaign/MP. Think of it as free daily DLC.

Any developer can do that if they just cut a bunch of things from the game before release and then release them the next day as DLC and claim it's free. They could have given that from the start and nobody would claim it to be free.

This would be an excellent point had you not just pulled 'cut from the game' out of your ass.

How is this cut? This is additional content. You could say that about Uncharted's map packs or Skyrim's expansion.

Normally additional content takes time to develop. If they're releasing it continually for 10 weeks after release it most certainly was already available.

I read each mission is like 15 minutes or something.

I imagine every Spartan Ops mission isn't going to be a whole level built from scratch. Get a grip.

an additional 12 hours, thats longer the 90% of games nowadays, then 10 weeks later another 12 hours. Even if it 15$ per season thats amazing value as long as they can keep the up on the quality of the seasons

[QUOTE="ShadowMoses900"]

Ninja-Hippo

Season 1 is free. Season 1 comes with the game, and lasts ten weeks. After that there will be season two, which i imagine they will charge for as DLC. Presumably, anyway. As for what Spartan Ops is, it's a dedicated co-op campaign separate to the single player campaign, but intertwined with its events.

So can you still play season 1 after the 10 weeks? Or is it gone and you have to get the new one?

But this will keep the game fresh if they keep this going. Constantly having more content is a good thing to keep gamers interested. I just hope Halo 4 has a good campaign and they add some SP content.

Well I'm hoping that they keep it at a price point like that, and then I'd probably jump on. Dependant on the quality of course, but then that's what Season One can show me.

Honestly, I don't like the idea of this.

Halo 4 probably have used all DVD's space, so they have to use DLC to push more content to my 20GB hard drive? No thanks, I'll give it a miss. Not good enough.

This goes to show just how necessary the Blu-ray is.
